Tunbridge just isn't a good footballer. He's very fumbly and has never a been best 22 automatic selection.
I've always thought he was worth persisting with and possibly still is with lecras coming to the end and hill/ Cripps not setting the world on fire but at the end of the day he just isn't very good

I think he confuses himself because when he tries to be an enforcer he gets himself suspended. Maybe he just isn't that good at it, as you said.

It's a pretty rare skill to do it consistently for 4 quarters tbh, even more so for forwards. The right balance for bash and crash type play is hard to find for anyone. And when it's found, it often just comes with maturity; Tunners is only 24 now and he'll hopefully have a good run at improving that consistency soon.

I'm not even talking about for four quarters, I am talking about game to game, once or twice a game, in terms of the aggression. Completely agree with yours and Carbine's posts that he may get himself confused, and I think exactly the same thing has happened to Matty Rogers since he was reported a couple of years ago. I also acknowledge it is a very fine line to walk in this modern era. But ruthless tackles that leave the other team looking over their shoulders is what I mean.

In light of subsequent events I wish I had something a little more positive to report, alas I don't

Swans jumped out of the blocks early with a couple of quick goals which EP worked hard to pull back before Swans answered with another two goals to take a 13 point lead into the first change. They were kicking with a slight breeze but early hopes that was an influence was quickly dispelled as SD kicked the first two goals of the second quarter. Again EP pulled this back a little and actually took control of the game for the last ten minutes of the half but kicked 5 behinds in a row to go from 4.1 to 4.6 and trailed by 15 points at half time

In the third quarter, Swans took complete control with a 5 goal to one onslaught with EP seemingly powerless to stem the tide. Faint hopes of a comeback from 41 points down were quickly crushed when SD kicked the first goal of the last quarter and a blowout looked inevitable. To their credit EP fought the game out and limited the damage to a 26 point loss which may have been even less had they capitalised on their dominance in the closing stages (fair to say SD had put the cue in the rack though). Something something not giving up.....

Swan Districts were cleaner and had a more efficient forwardline setup kicking 14.6 from the same number of entries as EP took to kick 9.10 - 10.0 from key forwards Cary (7) and Wityk (3) a big factor with not all those shots being easy. On the day they were the much better side and were deserving winners

I posted earlier that it was 30 years since I'd been to Bassendean and it may well be another 30 before I go again. With the benefit of hindsight I'd have sat on the outer wing in the sun or walked another 50 metres to the the Bill Walker stand but I chose the old stand who's name I didn't notice that watched over the forward pocket at the western end of the ground. I got a decent look at the operations of the forwards/defenders at that end but also shared the stand with the most rabid supporter group you'll ever cross paths with as they screeched and cackled non stop for 4 quarters. They made the hillbillies from deliverance look like a bunch of yuppies. To make matters worse the breeze was bitterly cold and without any warming sun it took me a good two hours afterwards to fully thaw out which coincided with half time of the eagles game. I watched the last two episodes of Better Call Saul instead

Next weekend EP have what should be a soft kill against the Sharks at Leederville followed by yet another bye ( between round 7 on 29/4 and round 17 on 15/7, which is 11 weeks EP will have played 6 games with 4 byes in that time which when you consider they have a block of 7 straight games to begin and end the season either side of that block it's a boneheaded piece of scheduling)

Partington - 18k, 10hb, 2m, 3t, 4.2 - when you consider he only had 3 disposals at quarter time (which did include an excellent running goal from 35-40m off a boundary throw in) he overcame a quietish start brilliantly. In a dark weekend his game was a genuine bright spot. Comfortably EP's best player and was genuinely damaging to the point where he could have had another goal or two. Quite simply he's earn a game because it's really hard to comprehend what more he could be doing. At different times he was prepared to go face to face with former Freo s**tstain Ryan Crowley who was his normal ****head self so Parto gets my admiration for that too

Wellingham - 10k, 11hb, 3m, 4t - good at times, poor at others. On face value stats look ok but I think overstate his influence. Seemed to pick and choose when he wanted to go so had his good moments but also others where you'd hope for more from a senior player. Showing no signs of discomfort from his ankle injury so he'll be fit if selected in the senior side at least

Lycett -11k, 10hb, 5m, 4t, 36ho, 0.1 - very good game from Slyce and I thought the most dominant big man on the ground. Moved well, had good aggression and EP usually looked better when he was rucking. Simpson said they needed him to spend more time rucking before a recall which he did and ran the game out well. Hard to envisage him playing more than one more game, if that, at EP before playing in the wings again

McInnes -6k. 6hb, 4m, 2t, 3ho, 0.1 - under utilised is a phraser that comes to mind. Had his moments and presented well across HF/wings at times but I can't shake the feeling he'd be more value leading out from the goal square as a go to FF. Generally struggled to make a meaningful impact on the game

Gorter - 3k, 2hb, 1m, 0t - safe to say Gorter had a mare. Struggled as the main KPD and was torched by Cary who kicked 7 from 9 disposals. as his sponsor it is incumbent on me to point out that one goal was the result of an errant Watson handball straight to him, another was from a push in the back free kick when McInness competed in a marking contest from a Gorter kick out from full back and his 7th was after Gorter had been shifted off him. But in truth looked lost as it becomes increasingly curious why west coast chose to rookie list him. Good kid but doesn't look up to it.

Giles -5k, 5hb, 6m, 1t, 31ho, 1.0 - named as one of EP's best on the WAFL site which given my understanding is provided by the club is completely baffling. Thought he was ineffectual and his hitouts weren't as damaging as Lycetts. I thought he struggled and was surprised when I saw the hitout numbers. Serviceable game at best and I hope that him being named as one of the BOGs is some sort of pre-emptive trickery

Mutimer - 11k, 7hb, 2m, 5t, 1.0 - had a really good second quarter where he helped drive a mini revival including a clever goal but waned a little in the second half. Decent game but not one that demands re-selection

Masten - 24k, 9hb, 4t, 5hb, 0.1 - the game you'd expect from a seasoned AFL player at WAFL level. Got a lot of his disposals from superior work rate but didn't make full use of them. Seldom turned the ball over outright however many of them missed the target resulting in a stoppage. His physicality was pleasing and his five tackles was equal second highest. Didn't shirk a contest that I saw

Watson - 8k, 9hb, 5m, 2t - surprised he was given a league game rather than being kept in the reserves another year. That said the longer the game went the better he got and you could see that desperation to take the game on returning as he grew in confidence.Good signs he's returning to his best

Lamb - 4k, 6hb, 2m, 3hb, 1.0 - sadly another off day for chopper. Took a strong contested mark in the goal square to kick a goal and another nice hang in defence to save one but had trouble getting into the game.EP had plenty of big forward so he became something of a fifth wheel. We need to decide what he is and start playing him there

Rotham - 8k, 5hb, 4m, 2t - started out OK but was found wanting in an undersized defence much like the subi game. The more I see of him the more I view him as wing type because as a defender he isn't actually that good at defending

Butler - 8k, 8hb, 5m, 3t - age is catching up to butts in a hurry. Looked slow and his unwillingness to move the ball on quickly is a detriment. Was absolutely copping it from the banjo brigade during the third quarter to the point where I wouldn't have blamed him for retiring there and then. This guy has an AFL premiership medallion that he earned fair and square. Watching him was equal parts admiration for still doing what's best for the club and pity for a guy who's persisted through injury after injury only to be mocked by a group that had less talent collectively than his toe nail clippings

Snadden - 8k, 1hb, 3m, 3t, 1.1 - his stats confirm his impact Did kick a goal but that was the result of a 50m penalty for umpire abuse that he had no bearing on. I've struggled to notice him in the reserves when he's had the best part of 30possesions, how'd you reckon I'd go noticing him with single digits

From a changes to the AFL side point of view, Partington, Wellingham, Masten and Lycett all put up a solid case for elevation. Partington, in particular, must wonder what he needs to do if he's not at least named as an emergency for the bulldogs game after a month of solid footy

Whilst he wasn't getting leather poisoning by any stretch in recent weeks, EP are actually missing the impact Venables has on a game so can't wait tosee him out there again

Even the write-up on AFL.com.au isn't giving Partington credit. A nice write-up on Masten and then oh yes, Partington ... he also had influence with 28 touches and 4 ****ing goals.

After gathering a team-high 28 touches last week, midfielder Chris Masten continued to push for senior selection by collecting a game-high 33 disposals in the 26-point loss.

It was Masten's third straight WAFL appearance since being dropped following the loss to Greater Western Sydney in round 10.

Inside midfielder Luke Partington also had an influence through the middle with 28 possessions and four goals.

Sorry but I don't think anyone has actually made this criticism of Partington, even after his 22 possession game.

The criticisms are, and always have been, his defensive game and his impact per disposal. That being said, I think 4 goals and 28 possessions in a loss is too good to be ignored.

The irony of these things being an issue when we continue to play Priddis who i can safely say, despite never having seen Parto play, has far less defensive pressure, and far less impact per disposal.

Hope Tunners gets some managed game time in the ressies this week. He must be itching to get started on his hail mary career-saving run of games.

Plenty of underperforming small/mid forwards in our team at the moment. He has a real chance of playing AFL again if he strings a couple of good ones together.

If Tunners makes it back into our team at any stage, i'll know the season is a right off. He's never shown anything to indicate he's an AFL level player.

Don't think he's dropped his head. The effort is there even if the production isn't so it's not like other times where he'd just given up and looked disinterested.

He has lost form though much like EP have the last couple of weeks

Agreed, but Priddis is helped somewhat by the fact he has a role as an extractor mid. Partington as an outside mid needs to be more damaging with his ball use.

Over the last month or so Simmo has played Sheed and Duggan in the guts more with Priddis playing more on the outside so surely Partington can do better in the same role?

Partington can kick goals from the midfield which is a pretty good attribute and should be rated higher because of this ..
