Have just come home after watching the game.
I saw some good young players who may be worth considering in the draft along with a clser look at Matt Michael and Cale Morton.
Morton did nothing in the first half and south led at half time.
In the third quarter he imposed himself on the game for about 5 minutes and kicked three goals.A couple of good marks and long kicks and claremont hit the front by 15 pts at three quarter time.In the last quarter he again took a couple of good marks and kicked another 2 goals, game over!
He waved the arms like the Wiz, very arrogant.Nice size, will be better with a bit more beef on him.
Matt Michael was busy in the first half, may have kicked a couple of goals.
Played mainly at CHF with an odd run on the ball. Not very big, more mid size, definitely not key position at AFL level.Faded a bit in the second half although he snapped a good goal.
Matt De Boer played in the centre for the tigers, got plenty of it.Uses it well but needs more penetration in his kicking.Very clever in close, brought others in the game through fast hands and good use of handball.
Pat McGinnity, son of former Royal Kevin, was the most impressive, nothing flashy but is a ball magnet, likes to get down and dirty and uses the ball very well.
Claremont had a young Aboriginal boy called Zephaniah Skinner who came from the Nookanbah Blues. He played in the ruck but while tall, is built like a matchstick with the wood shaved off,
Good mover, kicks well on both sides, but doubts over whether he would get smashed at a higher level. He deserves to be drafted for his name alone.
The Swans colts team were there watching and there are some big lads amongst them.
I may go and have a look at them next week as they looked pretty awesome.
The Fijian boy with the birds nest haircut is a terrific size but he was not an orphan in there team.
I saw a bloke called Tony Notte play in the WA versus Vic Metro game and he looked a good prospect.Built like Twiggy Dunn butstrong pack mark and good mover.
I reckon there are some goOd prospects for us here in WA without looking to draft kids from the east.
If I get to the Colts GF i WILL PUT ANOTHER WRITEUP ON THE SITE.:thumbsu:

Well done! I appreciate the run-down. :thumbsu:

Zephaniah Skinner!
Who cares if he can play, watching Commeti's head explode at the thought of all the comedic permutations will be worth the price of a rookie listing.

I've been saying for awhile that our two first picks will (fingers crossed) will be Masten and McGinnity. :thumbsu:

(I figure if I say it often enough that it will have more of a chance of being true.)

Oh and bad luck to the Souths boys... :(

Morton will be at West Coast with his brother after they secure Fevola and draft picks for Judd.

Not so sure.....depends what we do with Mitch. The rumour is his attitude leaves a bit to be desired. Will brining his younger brother in make it worse, or have the potential to settle him...assuming we don't trade Mitch. If we get rid of Mitch, I can't see us brining another Morton into the fold.

I'd expect (though of course this type of thing is purely guesswork), that if we get pick 1, we may even go interstate and get best available who is supposed to be Kruezer, if it's Pick 3, Palmer or Masten as Kruezer and Cotchin will likely be 1 & 2.

I thought that after the Croad debacle, the AFL has ruled that priority picks can't be traded; so the earliest you pick you could get would be pick 2. Can anyone confirm?

Pretty sure they can still trade pick one, the trade just needs to be specially approved by the AFL.(whatever that entails:confused:)

Do they call it the Cameron Schwab rule? ;)

6PR said today that they had confirmed with Adrian Anderson that Carlton can trade the number one pick if they choose to do so. They are assuming that if Judd goes to the blues the eagles will have pick one, but that is doubtful IMO because pick 3 will still get them their pick of Morton/Palmer/Masten and I can't see the blues giving up Kruezer.

Depends on a) how badly Carlton want Judd, and b) if Judd agrees to play for Carlton.

If they don't give up pick 1, then they will have to somehow wangle another top 10 pick to go with their number 3 you'd think.... Gibbs, Murphy, Waite... who would they off-load to get that pick to deliver Judd to them?

What would you say Fevola is worth? Tarrant was pick 8 and Medhurst and Fevola is much more of a match winner than Tarrant. I'd say something like picks 10 and 25 would be a fair trade for Fevola. The blues would much rather trade Fevola or Kennedy, whose value would have dropped because he hasn't shown a hell of a lot at AFL level, than pick one.

Picks 3 + 20 + Fevola for Judd looks reasonably fair. The West are reporting that the eagles don't want Fevola, if that is the case a deal for Fevola will have to be done with another club to secure the pick(s) west coast wil want. If the eagles were to get picks 3, 10, 20 and 25 for Judd that looks about right.

Also if Carlton offer picks 1 and 3 what will the second best offer be? I can't see another club coming up with a deal anywhere near as good as that, the blues want to have the best offer but only just. I wonder if Essendon would part with Gumbleton + pick 6 + Jetta? Probably not, but pick 6 + Ryder + Jetta would maybe be on the table?

Not having a coach makes it hard for Essendon. Collingwood and Hawthorn don't have early picks, which leaves Carlton and Melbourne in the box seat during trade week. Fevola has much more trade value than Robertson, Yze and Johnstone so at this stage the blues look to have the advantage both with space in the cap and with players/picks to trade.

If Judd goes to Carlton it prevents them from offering Hasleby $400,000+. I can't see anyone else having that much spare cash, so Judd going home will hopefully increase our chances of retaining Hase. :thumbsu:

I can't see the Blues getting rid of pick one. Unless they're prepared to put in another performance similar to this years as a means of picking up Naitanui they have to take Kruezer to get themselves an actual ruckman.

What worries me is that if Carlton start shopping Fevola round as a means of securing picks to trade for Judd it's going to make it hard for us to ship Murphy off.

Not really. When you think about it if Fevs and Murphy's dossiers where placed side by side on a recruiters desk Fevs would highlight Murphy's good discipline and youth.

Of course Fev will still be the much preferred target for any club, but for those with a young list, Murphy might appeal as fall back option.

The Dogs are dead keen on Fev apparently.

Maybe Fev to the Dogs for their pick 5 (maybe throw in a fringe player also) - which Carlton then ontrades to the weagles along with their picks 3 and 20 (and maybe another lesser player as a sweetener).

  • The weagles lose Judd; gain picks 3, 5, 20
  • The Dogs lose pick 5; gain Fevola
  • Carlton lose pick 3, 20 and Fevola; gain Judd

Now a fringe player or two, or a lower pick or two, might need to change hands to even it all up - Carlton might think that's a lot to give away... but that looks about right.

Then we have to try and get the Dees to take Ryan Murphy and our pick 7, for their pick 4 and a third or 4th rounder.

Draft order:

1. Carlton - Kreuzer
2. Richmond - Cotchin
3. WCE - Morton / Palmer / Masten
4. Freo - either Palmer or Masten
5. WCE - whoever is left of the three WA boys
6. Essendon - still Ebert / Henderson / Rioli / McEvoy are all available
7. Melbourne - as above (minus one)
