Surely now he's on his last chances. Blues have been ver, very patient with Andrew, and after the trade talk, he's been given another chance.

Besides his brilliant left foot goal from outside 50, he didn't do enough. Also, was trying to do the spectular rather than the disciplined things on too many occasions.

Let's be truthful; only reason we've persisted is because he was selected as an early draft pick.. if he was a 3rd or 4th rounder, I'd say he would have been delisted by now.

I hope he does something in 2011, or any trade currency he has will be gone

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Didn't see much of a problem with his game last night other than trying to win aerial balls where he should have waited at the back of the pack. Crumbed well, created well.

On track for 50 goal season.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

i think he done about as much as you could almost want. could have had more goals obviously. he's not going to get stacks of the ball, his role like betts and garlett is somewhat opportunistic, but a bit taller. and he won't kick a bag like fev unless he does a flukey 8 before half time job. 1 or 2 goals, forward defensive pressure / lead-up a little bit.
i don't mind him flying for a few marks, he could turn out to be a difficult match-up in time. sydney match shows he has some value playing up there.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I thought he did enough last night. Two goals, one assist. Provided some good leads out wide when we brought the ball up the ground wide which opens up space for bigger forwards in the middle of the 50. I'd like to see him lead further up the ground a bit more often. Bring on next week against the Toolies.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Will play better with Henderson and a full game by Waite I would think.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Squared a beauty to Gibbs who in turn put it on the chest of Curnow for our first goal.
Drew a man on the boundary line and handballed to Betts for our second goal.
Swang around on the 50 and nailed a goal on his left in the second.
Lead hard to give an option for our defenders, marking in our defensive 50 in the second.

these are off the top of my head in the first half. He played a major role last night, his leads, his workrate, his assists...

dont let a few mistimed marking attempts cloud your judgement.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Said this the other day, he needs to stop trying to take mark of the century. Take marks on the chest as a lead up but otherwise use his speed and stamina and work the oppostion over with his ground game.

Contributed well last night but looked ridiculous trying to leap over tall buildings an hour before the ball got to him.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I like him as a forward, seems to be somewhat accountable and is an aerial threat.. Also not having him kick out of defensive 50 is relieving.. Laidler is a natural down back

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I'm gonna go with "No"

really hope he proves me wrong, but I just don't think he has enough going on up stairs football wise.

And the sooner he stops trying to take mark of the year every time, the better

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Just come back from a metting in the CBD ..and Tex Walker delivered our Pizza order ..so the answer is a definitive " Yes ! "

Oh and the Judd deal is off

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I'd also like to point out a passage of play in the 4th where Walker was on two opponents, jumped in the middle of both to take a difficult mark, did not get a ride on anybody, just a standing jump and snatch at the ball, and could not reel it in. Quartermain on the telecast, said that 'Walker tries to take mark of the year again.' No he didn't you idiot, he tried to take a standard mark with a split second piece of judgment and at least got his hands to it despite being out of position.

I hope all of the things that Walker allegedly did wrong last night are things observed with eyes at the game, and not perceived because of shitty commentary.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I actually thought he played pretty well last night. Contested well, second efforts were good, and tried his arse off.

Don't really understand the bagging. But then I think untill he kicks 8 a game there will be the critics.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I get the feeling Walker won't finish his career at Carlton, he wanted out at trade time last year, and would have gone to Adelaide or the Bulldogs if a decent deal was put on the table. He is out of contract at season's end and if i were a betting man, i would say heis going to GWS

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

He was really good in the first and last quarters.
When Hendo and Waite are in and Tex is the 3rd target, he is going to kill it.

Was going to add the same thing. :thumbsu:

He only needs to provide a contest and kick 1 or 2 goals a game and he will be handy. Tackle pressure is key though and I'm not so sure he has that in him but he will be persisted with if he continues to hit the score board.

Walker struggles when he is manned up by a KPD which is understandable with his size. As you said when Hendo and Waite are playing he will be able to take advantage in the air and the marking contest when on a smaller opponent.
