TERRY Wallace will coach Richmond until at least mid-year.The embattled coach survived a board meeting in the city last night, where the club reiterated its process to review the coach would continue as planned.

Wallace, who is under daily scrutiny from media and fans, will officially know of his future about Round 12.

Unofficially, at 0-4, Wallace knows his future almost certainly finished at Punt Rd.

Wallace was not at last night's meeting, nor did he present any submission.

But a decision was expected on whether Wallace would be sacked and replaced by one of his assistants, namely David King or Wayne Campbell, or that he would continue.

At last night's meeting, Craig Cameron, the head of football, strongly recommended - and was supported - that the process of reviewing the football department, which includes Wallace and which began last July, would continue until its completion, which is mid-year.

Chief executive Steven Wright also presented at the board meeting, which went for two and half hours.

Richmond president Gary March last night was emphatic the scrutiny on Wallace and the Tigers would not force the club's hand.

``We will not buckle to outside pressures in regards to the process which we put in last July,'' March said.

``The coaching review was to be made mid-season and a decision will be made as to what direction the club takes.

``The current situation is nothing has changed.

``Terry is coaching. He is contracted to coach.

``And the review is not just the coaching, it's the whole footy department. It's a work in progress.''

Sanity prevails. Now let's get things exactly the way we want them. No rush.

What will they do differently to what they've done for the past quarter century? Therein lies the problem.

It'll be interesting to see what happens mid year if we don't get a few wins on the board, afterall "Terry is coaching. He is contracted to coach".

Club acting responsibly, they're learning
I'm sure it will upset the media no doubt, but screw them. They shouldn't dictate how we run our club

You just answered your own question.

Totally agree, I think the club has taken the stance that it will not be bullied into making a decision just becaue the footy media are saying it is what we should do. About time Richmond showed a bit of backbone when it came to decisions which can in effect change the course of the club.

I couldn't put it any better. :thumbsu:

Well ... i wish someone would because , once again , history proves we have NFI "onfield" and continue to stumble around in the dark

Terry knows he is gone
The club .. "obviously" ... knows he is gone
We all know he is gone
The whole football community knows he is gone

So can i ask the point of him continuing on ?

Should have been out the door tonight with Cambo caretaker .

@ rnd 4 the season is still salvagable in some way .... now we get to play charades for 8 weeks .

Glad the Freo boys have played up because at the Mo you cannot get the struck match between us and them for sheer buffoonery

thats fine in context .

But is doing the opposite to what the media is dictating necessarily the right thing for us ?

or are we just being stubborn for stubborns sake?

Yes, it is the right thing for us. We determine our destiny rather than people who are only interested in newspaper sales dictating our future.

I would think the boards decision is the correct one. If we sack Wallace then what? I don't think bringing in one of the assistant coaches to head coach would improve things. To solve the problems with developing our players is going to take a few years. The problems won't be solved in one week by placing a care taker coach at the steering wheel.

i think you miss the point ... is the destiny that we are determining the right one ?

i disagree with the path the club is choosing

Yes. All week I've heard how pathetic we have been as a club.
Now finally we stand up and do something that most successful clubs would choose to do and show some maturity.
All we have got to do is get more of our supporters to see that's the right way to go IMO
It still leaves enough room for the club to put in place a structure for the future.
How can they make decisions now when their review hasn't even been completed?

LMAO .... how much more of Terry do we need to see to base our views on ?

The effort in rnd. 1 was enough for me .... everything after that has just been gag material ...

Will give you a comparison ... how strong clubs conduct themselves .

West Coast ... pantsed by the aints 2 weeks weeks ago in similar fashion to our round 1 gem

How did they react ?

What has our reaction been the following 3 weeks ?

I do not see the harm in having a caretaker run the ship for a while whilst they finish their revue

i can handle losing if we are at least competetive ... the first 4 rounds have been argueably the worst i have seen .... and for bloke who has weathered the shit for over 30 years that is certainly saying something

Well done Richmond.

I would have gone one step further.

I would have stayed with Wallet for the rest of the year.

I would have told him that he is to coach for the future (as if he had another 5 years) so as to play guys that would be the future of our club. Don't just play older guys because you might pick up a few cheap wins.

The club should put the players on notice that they either play as if their life depended on it, or they will be delisted or traded. This especially applies to the senior group. The focus for the rest of the year would thus be on them.

This would provide apparent stability and strength to the club and would give confidence to incoming coaches that may apply, that the club honours its contracts and will not be swayed by the media. They would also get a better idea of the potential of the younger players on the list. Guys like Hardwick, Buckley and even Malthouse would feel better about going to a club that behaves this way than one that sacks its coach at the first sign of pressure.

This also would allow the remote possibility of Wallet turning things around and getting us into the finals and thus saving his own job (a long shot I know).

Just my 2 cents worth.

You're entitled to your opinion, as am I.
But both of us are not a part of a board with people trying to pull them in all directions.
One group wants him sacked. Another wants the players to be more accountable. Then you have the media demanding they perform like a dog  Others who say we should tank. And others like me who say we should make the finals for Richo.

There's lots of things happening there, ID, and not an easy situation to be in. Hopefully, they will have their review completed as soon as possible which is comprehensive enough to set a course of action to address all the problems, whether that's the coach going or not. You can't sack the coach now if the review comes out and says he's not the problem.

Patience grasshopper :D

OK, let's assume Wallace isn't going to come good.

If we sack him now, we look unstable, reactionary and desperate.

What (good) coach will want to coach us then?

And before you say everyone would love to (etc), think back almost 10 years ago, when we had just that reputation and we got stuck with Frawley because he was the best person who was *willing to take the job*.

Highly rated assistant coaches *chose* to remain assistants rather than take the top job at Richmond because they figured that a bad year, even a bad month or two where they didn't live up to (overblown) expectations and they'd be stuffed.

So even though it might suck, this was the decision they had to make.

Be thankful they arranged an opening 'mid-season' where we can do something and it'll look 'OK' (not great, but OK ).

Goes without saying froarsy

You really think Campbell would get us into the finals? Even Geischen had more coaching experience when we gave him the caretaker role.

Truce for now
But I will say I am right IMO :D
Why? Because no-one can make good decisions when the whole world is trying to tear you apart.
Our club is too important not to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

No more cliches for tonight lol.
But I remember hearing today guys like Malthouse saying they wouldn't go to a club who sacked a coach mid-season.

You also don't know if someone like Matthews is interested in coaching us. You appoint someone like Campbell now, you say goodbye to any chance you have of at least replacing Wallace with someone who's been there and done it all. Would you like to miss that opportunity if we decide to go with a new coach? Damn sure I would be mighty pissed if we got Campbell and missed out on Matthews.

Lots of things to look at and decisions to make that shouldn't be taken lightly.
