Got to give credit to him for sure. However he played and missed a lot in Hobart and when he tried to play for stumps in 100 at the WACA he struggled as well. He still has a lot to fix in his game and that's what people are saying.

Do you play cricket? How often do you see guys play and miss and generally look ordinary go and make runs?

Making runs is an artform in itself, something which early in his career he seems to be able to do. I would rather have him play and miss and make 100+ than get a nice looking 55 (Watson).

Warner will lose his place in the side when he continues to precipitate batting collapses by exposing the middle order to the new ball. His flashy quickfire hundreds might work out here and there, particularly against subpar attacks, but his style of batting will consistently lose more matches than it wins against good bowling sides.

Maybe he will eventually settle into a lower middle order Gilchrist/Symonds role, but he's on borrowed time as an opener - or should be. If they continue to pick him as the blue eyed boy then he will cause us big problems during the Ashes.

How you can say that with condfindence, I have no idea. He IS a openning bat! He loves the ball coming on with pace from the hard rock. Your obviously stuck in the stone age thinking test cricket hasnt changed. Well it has buddy. Maybe becuase of t20, but players are more aggressive, and he is the face of it. No matter how you score runs, your useful. He COULD be the difference in the ashes from a draw late on day 5, or a win because of his explosivness. He is golden.

While Warner is similar to Sehwag in terms of temperament, these aren't problems for him, as demonstrated by the fact that he averages 64 at Test level in non-subcontinental (and largely bowler-friendly) conditions.

As long as Warner's technique doesn't descend to 'Hughes-esque' levels of flawed uncertainty, he'll be reasonably equipped to cope in English conditions which are not too dissimilar from those he has faced so far. Anderson, Broad, Bresnan etc will definitely provide a challenge, but the evidence so far suggests he'll be up to it.

The Ashes is 18 months away, there is a lot (sort of) of cricket to be played between now and then. It is a pointless task trying to pick a squad now. It depends on Watson's body, Ponting & Hussey retirements. Form can change very easily.

I would say he is the most likely of the top 3 to be playing and making runs in the Ashes.

You think because Warner gets 180 in a test at a strike rate of 120 that automatically means he's slogging?
