Whats the trade history like between the two clubs?
The dogs were in the same position with McMahon and Richmond last year but Richmond chose to trade with us instead of getting him through the PSD for nothing and keep a healthy relationship between the two clubs.

farmer for pick 17 is the last trade we did back in 2001
I can't recall a player traded between the two clubs since Farmer and Simmonds so there's no recent history.
The fact that Chris Connolly is their footy manager is what makes it interesting though. A medal was created last year specifically for Connolly to acknowledge the work he did for Fremantle off field (building membership, sponsorship, that sort of shit). It will be interesting if he turns around and plays a part in us getting screwed for a talented young player.

why would we get rid of m.warnock after he has had his best season at the club?
face the facts, warnock will be coming to melbourne for a psd pick or a very late national draft pick..stop pretending you have any power. He has hinted that he wants to be a demon anyway.
That's irrelevant if Warnock nominates the Demons as his club of choice though RGauci. It's not like there was a bidding war for Josh Carr or Stenglein because they both only wanted to play for one WA club.

You know I hope we wouldn't accept it and say go into the PSD ....Melb may very well say fine we hold all of the cards.
However I guarantee you that with the state of Melb's list if they can trade and get Warnock (lets say for 51) - they will avail themselves of someone in the PSD.
It may not be a lot but if they offer 51 and he only wants the Dees - let him walk and at least cost them a Cam Cloke type or deny them the ability to let a few undrafted youngsters train with them allowing them to take the one that suits them the best.
Play hardball, cut nose off etc ...losing pick 51 aint going to kill us and it means if a higher profile player happens to nominate (trade week can get hectic at the end) ...it costs them all flexibility.
If he wants to come back to Victoria, Carlton might be interested in him Superstar Cain Ackland and Cloke can only get you so far. I actually dont mind Cloke as a depth player but our rucks Hampson and Kruezer are still too young and are getting murdered by the bigger bodied ruckman out there.
Also we can offer him a brighter future than Melbourne, we actually have a future.
Important question is can Warnock carry 1st ruck duties?
Warnock is more of a number 1 ruck that Cam Cloke and is better placed than Kruezer IMHO. Don't forget - there is another pre-season between now and 2009. If Sandi went down Warnock would (and has) led our ruck division well.

Yeah under normal circumstances I'd say stuff em, use the PSD then. But we'll hopefully have 6 or 7 picks in the national draft this year.
If we were to take pick 51 from Melbourne for Warnock and assuming we want to use 7 picks we'd have picks 3, 21, 37, 51, 53, 69 and 85. If we get a player or nothing for Warnock we'll have picks 3, 21, 37, 53, 69, 85 and 101.
That shitty pick at 51 doesn't make much difference until our 5th selection. Someone who our recruiters might rate highly could slide through to pick 53, but will that player still be there at pick 69? Then again with our 6th pick, the player we rate as being a real talent available at pick 69 probably won't be there at 85.

I'd prefer not to accept pick 51, its not enough compensation and it leaves them with the PSD free (an upgrade of 1 place in the PSD is better than pick 51. I think Robert Warnock will seriously consider Richmond. They will keep Melbourne honest at the trade table. Terry Wallace is in his last year of contract. He'll be throwing picks around willy nilly to keep his job.
Think about the following:
Melbourne have:
Jeff White - 13 games in 2008 (31 years of age)
Paul Johnson - 16 games
Mark Jamar - 13 games
John Meeson - 0 games
Jake Spencer (rookie)
Richmond have:
Troy Simmonds - 20 games (30 years of age)
Adam Pattison - 18 games
Dean Putt - 0 games
Angus Graham - 0 games
Tristan Cartledge (rookie) - 1 game
Warnock would be further guaranteed of the 1st ruck at Richmond than at Melbourne. Melbourne could, despite getting Warnock, recruit Naitanui.
Richmond are better placed to offer more money.
I think at worst we would get Richmond's 2nd rounder. From Melbourne the worst we could do is get their 2nd rounder.
IMO the best we could do is convince Richmond to trade its 1st rounder and 2nd rounder for Warnock and our 2nd rounder.
Effectively upgrading their 2nd pick and nabbing a pick around top 10.
I'm not worried. We won't rippped because Wallace is in his last year.
