The outcome is now obvious, but at the moment Gaff threw the punch, I’m not sure he intended to break Brayshaw’s jaw and I’m not sure you could say he intended to either. So,what did he think would be the outcome,of hitting someone in the face with force?
He chose to hit the player in the head, well off the field of play.not a ball in sight, not in the field of play.....

I don't really see any notable ducking or slipping. Brayshaw's head is at about the same height for the entire wind-up and swing. Doesn't lower at the last second. Gaff looking right at him.
Simpson pathetic response

It's funny seeing posters of teams who will play finals wanting him gone for the rest of season. No ulterior motive there nope....
You can see at the point of impact Brayshaw throws his head backwards. If he stayed still punch would have hit the chest. Could get intent changed based on that
When someone throws a punch they rarely have any other intent than to hit the other person. How can they know whether they will break a jaw, concuss the person or cause any other injury? The fact that he broke the guys jaw and loosened several teeth should mean he gets 7-8 weeks minimum. The outcome is now obvious, but at the moment Gaff threw the punch, I’m not sure he intended to break Bradshaw’s jaw and I’m not sure you could either.
I’ve watched him play for many years and this is completely out of character, he’s usually very controlled and even when under heat himself is a ball player.
However, the seriousness of the outcome will mean he’s dealt with harshly and rightfully so.
He did mean to hit him. It’s not like he accidentally threw a punch.
All you’re saying is he didn’t mean to hurt him that bad. He took a swing at a bloke, he clearly meant to hit him somewhere.
So again, you’re saying gaff belted one of his mates?
Did he, in the literal sense, intend to break his jaw? No, because someone with a case of red mist like that won't be thinking of consequences. But he did deliberately smash him, in the face, as hard as he could. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-05/watch-brownlow-contender-gaff-strikes-dockerThe outcome is now obvious, but at the moment Gaff threw the punch, I’m not sure he intended to break Brayshaw’s jaw and I’m not sure you could say he intended to either.

I wouldn't be surprised if they start blaming it on victorian clubs or the distance they have to travel
Gaff is not playing this year dont worry he will get 4 to 6 after having another look he has to cop his medicine
He should be grateful it only will get that....Man AFL house will eat him alive after this, they hate any sort of hits off the ball
Only from a couple on this board.Yeh the response from West Coast in general has been pathetic. The amount of supporters in this thread trying to defend or downplay the incident is embarrassing.
no doubt a great player but his act today was that of a dog
breaking a kids jaw is totally unacceptable and a real test for the AFL. Imagine if you did that at work to your customer, a work mate or other.
Some will say the AFL is a "different" place of work, but we must remember his act was an act of his own folly.............it was not part of the game.
6 weeks is the minimum.
Are you going with this? You can see at the point of impact Brayshaw throws his head backwards. If he stayed still punch would have hit the chest. Could get intent changed based on that
It is entirely accurate. Gaff places one hand on Brayshaw's shoulder, at this point he knows exactly what he's aiming at. He then winds back further than you would for a standard jumper punch or tummy tap, and whacks him in the jaw. There is no assessment of this where it's not a complete dog act.The replay that shows Gaff with his arm below his waist, swinging it around, Brayshaw changing direction and lowering his body to do so?
It was a stupid decision with piss poor execution but he didn't try to knock him out, he wasn't going for his head.
He'll miss 4-6 weeks accordingly, but don't try pretend he's a "dog" and a "coward" .... it's laughably inaccurate.
What is the matter with you? You ask what was wrong with the article. I explained it to you. And now you are questioning the article???Did the article contain the full transcript of the presser? Cos I only saw one quote.
What did you want him to say?Actually, Simpson was much more stupid with those comments.
Will get 5 maximum as they don't suspend players for grand finals
AFL would appeal their own decision and add two...precedent already set.Anything less than 6 and the AFL is a farce.
So probably 4 weeks...
And he was concussed for 30 seconds (according to the Eagle's medical report). Vickery got 4 weeks for that and it was nowhere near as bad. Most eagle fans seem to have forgotten Vickary hit on Cox a few years back. They were calling for his head
