Play Nice Was that Gaffs last game for WC?

Tuesday can't come around quick enough.

I'm already sick to death of what everyone will think he will get.

And yes, it'll be a long stint.

I hope Brayshaw's ok and all the best in his recovery.

But to answer the actual question of the thread. Maybe it was Gaffy's last game for the club. I wonder how many clubs will get scared OR lower their prices now, knowing one of Gaff last actions on a field was whacking a kid in the face. It's gonna be an interesting time.
The main factor could (should) be that WC would no longer match a bid for him.

Many jaw fractures require surgery. Because of that, patients may need to follow up with an oral surgeon. Healing time varies with the type of fracture; in general, the average time to heal a jawbone fracture takes about six weeks.

Would be fitting for Brayshaw to watch Gaff flying around the G on grand final day whilst drinking his steak out of a straw, seems legit.
Gaff is not playing this year dont worry he will get 4 to 6 after having another look he has to cop his medicine

Do you people have one eye closed all the time or does the club gouge it completely out of your head?

Try opening both eyes and taking a good, hard look at the replay again.
The replay that shows Gaff with his arm below his waist, swinging it around, Brayshaw changing direction and lowering his body to do so?

It was a stupid decision with piss poor execution but he didn't try to knock him out, he wasn't going for his head.

He'll miss 4-6 weeks accordingly, but don't try pretend he's a "dog" and a "coward" .... it's laughably inaccurate.

Gaff will only cop 3-4 weeks - I know it, he knows it and every AFL pundit knows it. The AFL look after the star players, and of course his clean record will be taken into account.

The AFL need the stars on the big stage in September.

I'd make the difference between intentional and incidental be that if it's intentional, your penalty doesn't start until the other guy resumes playing.
Agreed, but seeing as it was off the ball, it is pretty hard to argue it was either incidental or accidental.

Shit act, although I am sure west coast will go with the good guy defence. After all they perfected it with that thug Judd.

Agreed. Charges should be laid.

Terrible thing to do but seems so out of character.

Will get 5 or 6 weeks...
You're obviously new here. Hall played in a grand final after knocking a bloke out, if that (criminal charges) didn't happen after that incident they never will. Not defending Gaff at all but calling for criminal charges is somewhat OTT.

Many people listen to the radio. I think the WC fans behaved disgracefully. Of course not all of them. But gee what a low point in crowd behaviour. Wonder how they will feel about him sabotaging their premiership quest through his gutless and selfish behaviour?

If Gaff signs on again for WC he is going to get a pretty ugly reception around Perth I reckon. Inexcusable act, and then the tears....spare me. Definition of cowardly act.

And on field I hope he gets the hottest of receptions for the rest of his career from Fremantle, Melbourne and North Melbourne fans and players alike. The Brayshaws have epitomized fair sportsmanship, and Gaff the opposite.
Attacking a victim who cannot defend himself is an example of cowardly behavior.

Brayshaw was hit from behind was he?

I was at the game and it was incredibly distasteful, but perhaps not unexpected, of west coast supporters. So much poison at that ground they should call it the snake pit when the eagles play. Most of the supporters don't know the players or the rules, all they know is if the whistle goes and it's not their free, it's time to boo hard.
hahahahaha

Lawyer here and that's not 100 percent true.

A sportsman taking to a field
Is presumed to consent to a certain level of violence as being part of the game.

That's why boxers dont go to jail for punching each other. They consent to the violence.

Ditto athletes in other contact sports.

That said, depending on the sport, and the nature of the offence, a player most definately can be charged with a criminal offence in the right circumstances.

The offence generally needs to be something unusual or beyond the pale though.

Oh, absolutely they *can*, and as I said, this probably goes beyond what the exemption allows, but do you think the courts would want to get involved (or the AFL would want them to)?

Thats was for the precious AFLswans, no chance they wanted their well scripted narrative spoiled.

He did? Which one was that?

It's not reckless.

Its clearly intentional, severe impact and high contact.

He's going straight to the tribunal and will likely get 8 weeks or so.
The whole "intent" process the AFL has is ridiculous. For incidents off the ball, it should be irrelevant. Someone will try to argue he didn't "intend" to break his jaw.

I feel reckless should only be used in a contested ball situation eg a spoiling attempt that is late and makes contact.

Obviously he will cop a suspension, but the suspension weeks predicted just so he can miss finals seems highly suspect on their intention
Of course, just like the AFL decided to schedule a match in Tasmania to trip your mob up in its march towards September.

WCE supporters, potentially the biggest bunch of losers and conspiracy theorists since Pauline Hanson and her fear of the yellow peril and Islamic invasion of Australia.

Classic eagles crowd, cheering a dirty sniper like he won them a flag.
I was at the game and can confirm that the incident wasn’t replayed at all at the ground so unless people saw it live (nobody in my section did as it happened at the opposite side of the ground, and off the ball too ), they would’ve been unaware of the incident . Those around me gave him a standing ovation after he came off due to being collected by Johnson (no doubt in retribution)

Gaff deserves whatever he gets
But I hope that wasn’t his last ever game for us

6 weeks for intentional striking, 1 week for each tooth knocked out (3 teef), 2 weeks for the broken jaw and 2 weeks for the concussion. 11 weeks bookmark it.

He's still an elite player. Multiple clubs will be tripping over themselves to get him on their lists. The AFL culture has a short memory when it comes to the road to success.
