Player Watch Wayne Milera

Further to this I don't think it's that hard to understand why people are frustrated/dissapointed.

When we look at players like Hipwood and Rioli that were around the same draft pick stepping up in the big leagues.

Now maybe it's a late bloomer situation and he'll surpass them, but maybe not.

Hipwood had 2 touches on the weekend and Rioli despite that awesome goal still only had 9, wouldn't exactly say they've stepped up in the big leagues yet. There there same as Milera they've all done some really nice things but they're inconsistent which is understandable at this point in their career.

If the opposition is sacrificing a player to mind our most inexperienced midfielder, I'm fine with that.

"Taking away his space" means also taking away your own space as well.

Except Milera is going to win few, if any, of those contests - his opponent is going to win the bulk of them. Meaning his opponent will still be collecting plenty of the ball while still negating any impact Milera might have on the game, so they're not really sacrificing a player. He needs to get better at winning his own ball. And I'm sure he will in time, but right now it's the glaring weakness in his game.

Good signing and we are all hopefully that in 3 years time Jnr will be a very very good player however he does have work to do on his intensity and defensive side of his game

I'm not fine with this. It does nothing for his development and does nothing to address his deficiencies. If he is being "minded" without impact it limits our options.

We need a contribution across the board without others having to take up the slack.

If we are having this conversation in 2/3 years time we have wasted a first round pick.

An interesting comparison today by Tredrea in an Advertiser article comparing McLeod/ Cameron 50 game stats.

Both are very very similar. The one that did catch my eye ,and one we should be mindful of with Wayne ,is that both only had 2 and 1 20 disposal game in their first 50 games.

McLeod played as a forward pocket and then was moved to a running spot off half back in 97

Don't think there is much useful to learnt by looking at his first 50 games before he was let off the leash

So what you're saying is that we should move Charlie to HBF? Sounds fine to me.

On the surface at this current stage looking at first year and 2 nd year players playing currently we maybe have not done as well with our high draft picks as we have done so well with low picks over the years.. As Milera as much as excites us really has not put a real game performance yet and Doedee all be it has injury not close to selection and with many first year players doing well it seems ours are long way away.
Yes know too early to show if successful or not but just using my views with the fact that Milera has not moved on from showing glimpses last year and not gone past that.

He was around the mark for a rising star
nomination in round 1 coming off a modified pre-season due to knee soreness.

He's not a likely to be a player that gets 30 disposals a game every game. Racking up possessions more consistently was always going to take time, as is building an AFL body.

I think it's a good thing we haven't just dumped him in a forward pocket while he builds. He's being played all over the ground and gaining great experience as a result.

Cameron has played forward and is also midfield. The point was more about tempering expectation.

I was surprised by the stat and expected there to be more 20+ games. I think this is half the battle new players face. Its a dream team mentality

I wouldn't describe it as scathing, but I do think the creation of threads like these for the express purpose of pulling apart the performance of a player of his age and experience to be a sign of impatience.
Or to put it another way - a thread about a key footy player for our club on a forum about our footy club.

Every draft time we go over and over about what we think of players based on a 3 minute highlights package - pulling them apart and getting disgusted at the recruiters based on guesses. He's now been here a while now, we've all seen him play, let's chat about how we think he's going. The club rates him as a massive talent, I rate him worthy of his own thread.

And the overwhelming tone of this thread is very positive. Impatient? Yeah maybe, but is there anything wrong with being interested in chatting about our top draft pick based on the actual experience of watching him?

Unfortunately, I can't see Seedsman getting enough fitness and form to play any AFL this year. This is just a bad feeling, not based on knowledge, but it doesn't look much good.
The injury seems to one where he seems further away from a return each week. Bloody frustrating.

Given Greenwood is 25 with an elite sports background and a mature body, I'd like to see him injected and developed rather than Milera at this stage. Milera needs time at SANFL level with one objective - hunt the ball. He hardly gets big numbers in the 2's and I just think, given his age and body type, he has a long way to go and his deficiencies (intensity, ability to accept contact, staying in the game) are easily worked on at SANFL level.

You get the feeling Greenwood has something, and at this stage of their respective careers, I think Greenwood offers more than Jnr.

Different positions though

How many flags have we won this decade? Fitting a number of good players in the salary cap shouldnt be an issue.
exactly, convincing them to stay when we haven't made a grand final in 20 years ought to be the hard part...

Everyone wants instant 50 game players. We have to accept the inconsistency in young talented players like Wayne.

I said this two years ago about Charlie Cameron when some posters were making the same comments, ditto The RAT and Matty Crouch. We have been fortunate to draft some players who have performed from game 1 (Talia, Lever even though he was dropped from the finals in 2015).

If we trade in 50 game players it cost quite a bit and we still have to "re-educate" them.

If we bite the bullet and keep playing Wayne then he will be a much better player in September.
