I felt our defensive mojo was coming back vs North. The amount of smothers in that first qtr was amazing.
Unfortunately North nailed a couple of goals late in the 1st which gave them a sniff, similar to WCE yesterday, 2 goals from 3 entries.

One thing with RTB, is he holds training form in high regard.
He knows his system and when new players know their role within it, are fit enough and perform it on the track regularly, they (Sylvia) will be selected for AFL duty.

Will be interesting selection meeting this week if we have a key back (or 2) out.
Do they shift Mayne back, and bring in Sylvia/Kep to play forward.
Or keep Mayne forward, and bring Silvagni in, whose WAFL form has been pretty good.

I would hope we don't select Mayne as a defender - we have better defensive options available in my view.

Mayney's form reminds me of a few seasons ago when he couldn't nail a set shot to save himself. It got so over-hyped that it began to be more of a mental thing. As we all know he sorted his demons out in the summer and became a reliable set shot. I see similarities here in that his form is getting highlighted every week and is brought up in every presser- with that comes more intense pressure to perform.

Mayney did an ok job down back, but he often loses his feet which is against the first rule of football.

He didn't have the size and pace to match it with Jack Darling.

Is this supposed to be your magnum opus gotcha? I haven't always lived in Thailand.
So you're basing your assessment of Suban's current form on maybe 1 or 2 games you once watched ages ago, gotcha. Just so we know where we all stand.

Our forward line is a work in progress and I expect by the end of the year it will click, players being available, pressure for spots to increase.
Add Griffen, Kepler, Tabs, Ape, for the second tall. Simpson, Sylvia, small, medium. Plus Crozier, Neale, getting better with more games.
Mayne when fit and in form adds to the mix, Long term I don't see a problem with the forward line.

He hasn't played a WAFL game since 2012. I was in Australia to watch those.

And I'm not bashing Suban's current form. The point was that WAFL form is not the only criteria for getting picked. As an example I used Suban's WAFL form before he became a regular AFL player, which wasn't particularly amazing.

Yet people think Sylvia needs to have a 30 possession, 3 goal game before getting a call-up.

So you should leave a couple of the A-Graders in the 2nds for balance?

Fun fact: Fremantle are the only team in the comp to have not debuted any new players this year.
Who suggested that? Here is an interesting fact. Alistair Clarkson last night said the 5 players they have debuted this year have been in the system for 3, 4 or 5 years but because of the strength of the list they haven't previously been able to give them an opportunity. We unfortunately are not that strong.

With the contest against Port over at AO this weekend, there is no way known we are going to outrun them/beat them for pace. Our only chance will be to beat them for pressure / stifle their run. We definitely looked to have a bit of our pressure mojo back this weekend, but it is still just one week ...
If we go tall in our forward line then the Port flea brigade will be running it out at will. We need some speed/pressure in the forward line for next weekend. This probably means Croz, Mayne, Balla and De Boer will all keep their spots.

I suspect that Hill is an upgrade in the speed department over all of them except maybe Balla. So I don't think your premise holds.

I agree that it is unlikely that any of them will be dropped but not for that reason.
Croz might draw the short straw but if he does either Suban remains in the side or one of Mora or Sylvia is coming in. In which case raw pace is less the issue than endurance, which Port is supposed to have in abundance.
Naturally injuries play with all this speculation and we will know what's likely after the medical report comes out this afternoon.

Which also reflects a comparatively good run with injuries.
