I am sure I will Regret this Thread later in the Week.

Typical Hot Headed Posting by Me and Others Tonight

I'm not sure why you would regret your OP. I thought it was one of your better ones.

I wouldn't say that. We're a young side so you have to expect inconsistency.

That said I feel we have to find players to overtake lumumba, Blair, Dwyer, etc. if we are going to be successful.
I think Freeman and Scharenberg will be 2 of those. Kennedy will come on too.
So we have the replacements, its just that in this world of instant gratification, many supporters will fail to understand it will take a bit of time.
Moore too (although it will be 2 years or so) will give us great flexibility

Well we have to wait a few years to let the Kids Develop more.

Reminds me a Little bit of 2008 where we had good kids but they where still very young

Yeah agree completely. You'd add Broomhead too. We won't slide much further than the group we're in at the moment.

I'm a Big Footy member, who obviously does not post much, but am an avid devourer of the bouquets and brickbats contained herein. I attend every Melbourne game (and have done since '66), go to many interstate games and am a Legends member.

I think some perspective is needed, last night's result was clearly disappointing, but there are extenuating circumstances. Teams do great things in the face of adversity - Guy McKenna did not have to consult any chronicles of great three quarter time revs-up. He just told 18 blokes to bust their guts in the last quarter. I remember, when we only had 17 fit players, Kerrison, in traction being propped up in the forward pocket as we destroyed North by 50 points.

Teams like St. Kilda & the Bulldogs, who were top 4 in 2010 are allowed by the media and the generally ignorant supporter to be classified as young and rebuilding. When we played these 2 teams, we were younger on average than both. Even the Dees on QB had on average been longer on this mortal coil than their black and white counterparts.

We have been truly cruelled by injuries, as many sides have - consider Port's form since some of their vital cogs have been struck down. Our best 22 (potentially) is highly competitive.

- Williams Brown Toovey
- Seedsman Frost Scharenberg
- Sidebottom Beams Freeman
- Elliott Cloke Martin
- White Reid Kennedy

- Witts Macaffer
- Pendlebury

Int - Thomas Adams Swan

Sub - Fasolo

One thing that continues to irk me is the political correctness of some of our supporters. I am not Clark Kent, but when I am not at the footy, I am reasonably mild mannered. When I am there, I honour the line of that famous song "HEAR THE BARRACKERS A-SHOUTING AS ALL BARRACKERS SHOULD".
It is not the Sheffield Shield, it's not High Mass at St. Patricks. If noise is a problem for these people, take up crochet.

The only person that overrates us is you T'D.

Everyone else is pretty aware of where we areat.

I seen many people on here say we are a Top 4 Chance and I see people back away from it the last 2 weeks

With the Trading the Hine has done to get 1st Round Picks and Adams who is a High Draft Pick 2 years ago.

We won’t Bottom Out but can we be Dominant like we where in 2010 and 2011 by doing that?

Good Chance we could with the Multiple Picks we have had so high last 2 years. It does have a Big Upside to it

Sensible post. Most of us are venting & will be back to our crazy normal selves by Tuesday.
I always liked Chris Dalkin, great skills & I thought he would make it, however injuries (knee?) got the better of him.

No. He will read your post, then tender his resignation.
What do we look for in identifying a great coaching move that helps us win a game?
Is it more effort than usual from the players on the day?
Someone unexpected suddenly in a key position?
Changes in game play e.g. 20% less handball and more kicks?
Getting several goals from set plays....

I didn't see any of this against the gold coast or footscray.

I think the real question is.. Who rated us..?????

Most supporters were of the opinion that we were a 6th-10th team this year, and the improvement would come 2015/16.

Our best footy is 3rd-6th, our worst footy is 12th-14th.

Only issue is we only see our best football every 6 weeks.

We are a Good average team at the moment. If we have a good run with injuries, maybe our best footy is played every 2-3 weeks.

Regardless, We will not win a flag in the next 5 years unless we clean up our disposal.

firstly who has over rated us ? at the start of the year most people would have said that we are around the 7-10 range.
secondly " I need to find the article. " but Collingwood has the biggest injury toll as far as games missed by the best 22 players throw in then our top 10 draft picks and I actually think that we have done extremely well.

yes our ball use is poor and there is no avoiding that but there is also the element of pressure applied by the opposition and every time a club plays Collingwood it is their Grand final. " EG) sell out crowd at metricon.

lol, shocking thread (almost as bad as the identical one you've put on the main board - not sure what you were trying to achieve there). If someone in the media had said this stuff a couple of weeks ago they would have copped a thread from you with the 'Roast' tag.

We are a young side in the midst of a rebuild. We've had a good season but we're exactly where I thought we'd be - sitting in the 6-10 bracket. We should still make the 8, but if we don't, it's not the end of the world. We were never going to win the flag.

Nice post dalkin 47 btw.

Dave I also think your OP is pretty much spot on.

We have very significant deficiencies and actually think we over performed earlier this season.

We are 6 at best, 10-12 at worst and have a way to go in all areas for sure.

Reid, Maxwell and Fasolo back would certainly help in the short term.

We've the makings of a very good team so won't be giving up on them anytime soon!

The last few weeks have seen performances that reflect the side we are able to put on the field better than what was produced earlier in the year. The young defenders have performed out of their skins, but it is too much to expect that they can do it match after match without some experienced backup.
The Reid injury has disrupted the year's plans. Brown is almost as big a loss.
Swan's rapid decline was unexpected and has made a mess of the midfield. The backups have not come on as hoped.
Long term injuries to the new draftees means we don't even know what they might achieve. Broomhead is in this basket too.
To me, all of this means we have overachieved this year so far. If this has led to over rating the team, then it is an error of optimism, and so no bad thing.
Injuries are always crucial in deciding a season when you have a good basic side (which we do). From the second half of 2011, we have had a bad run, both with who was injured and when. Hopefully this will be balanced by a good run in the future.

It look like the masive over rating we had on this board has come off a bit. We are where we belong given how we have managed the list. We were never going to be a top 4 side this year.

Very True. We got rid of the More Mature Players to bring in kids. But Rd 2 to the Bye we looked quite good but then after the Bye we just keep on going backwards

I think setting the standards set by Lumumba and Blair is far too low. There is no way a team could win a premiership with those two guys in it...

Agreed, 2010 was but an imagination figment

Harry peaked significantly in 2010. he looks good when he attacks and runs until he gets caught or turns it over in disposal. He isn't consistant, he makes poor decisions and he can't kick well enough. He puts his team mates under pressure far too often. Blair plateaued and in this side he doesn't do enough. They are hardly the only two issues we have though. Dwyer is handy. We've had far too many handy footballer over the last 50+ years and won 2 flags. Keeffe isn't a KP defender. He can't compete well enough 1 on 1. We've got 1 marking forward. That's 2 too few. Making do with a ruckman isn't cutting it.

I haven't rated us since 2011.
People say we will win a flag in 2-3 years. It just doesn't happen like that. We are further away than most of our fans want to believe.
