There is definitely early signs of a man crush.

He is a beauty. He's been the highlight of 09.

Can't wait to see Sidebottom in action. Hopefully these 2 bring some joy back to the Magpie fans

Signs? I declared my man crush last week haha

And if Steele has the same impact, my god, i won't be ablt to control myself...(or it!)

I like how he has "Strength Through Loyalty" tattooed n his chest ;)

elaborate
Sorry took so long to reply , got gistracted. Just noticed a couple of times he did not get agnowledged for tough efforts he puts in and when he kicked his first goal in footy only about five players ran up to him . Really hope i am just imagining things as he is the best addition to the club since Clement!!!

I wouldnt be so quick to discount the potential for him being poached to the Gold Coast. In fact, I would suggest he it the highest risk player in the club for that team.

First of all, they will want him. The good news story of having a local boy (who has cult hero potential with the tatts etc) forming the nucleus of the new star studded midfield would be immense. And if they can get him, they get him for free.

Second, he ay be tempted to go. They will pay him well over the odds with their higher salary cap, he could reach rockstar status (ie cOusins in perth) in his hometown with the new glamour team.

He did chose not to sign with them last year, but that was becuase he wouldn't have wanted to sit out 2 years of the game on the sidelines instead of the experience he is being exposed to now. And which other club would you want that experience with other than Collingwood. He is an alpha male and would have wanted to be on the battle field as soon as possible.

I hope he stays with us, but I think that he will be tested by the new club very strongly. the gold coast club will have the most capable recruiting power in history of AFL, being able to sign uncontracted players with no need for negotiation with the other club (trades).

He is definitely one to start getting excited about.

Sorry DTM - I can't see the Pendlebury comparison. What I did see on Thursday night was a young tough mid willing to throw himself at the ball with unwavering determination. He has some way to go yet but should be in the middle for as long as his body allows it this year. The attack on the ball is more Selwood than Pendlebury.

Beams and Pendlebury should hopefully form a good combination over the years. The smooth mover in Pendlebury and the hard nut goal-kicking midfielder in Beams. Now all we need is to get Thomas firing on all cylinders and Sidebottom AFL ready and we will look a hell of a lot better midfield wise.

Why free? They can only take one uncontracted player each from the 16 clubs, and they have to trade to do that.

So if Beams wanted to go (which is 99.95% unlikely) we would just ask for a high pick for him.

The way the GC uncontracted player system is going to work is;

* 1 uncontracted player from each club
* Player has to agree to move
* Team who loses player, will be compensated with a draft pick decided upon by the AFL in a rankings system (Riewoldt = no.1 draft pick, Beams = late 1st round would be likely)
* The draft pick the team gets can be used any time of the next 5 years in any national draft.

If we sign up all our stars this should'nt worry us.

But remembering that Beams is from the Gold Coast does raise concerns, depends how loyal he is and if he can be lured back home.

At least Collingwood was his club of choice to begin with and he seems happy here, just have to wait and see

that doesn't sound right. I don't think the AFL can force a player to go somewhere both he and his club don't want.

He was born and raised in Melbourne. Moved to the GC when he was about 4/5.

He actually said after the draft, "I was really glad I got to come to Collingwood, I can say that now".

Perhaps most kids might say this but I have little fear of losing him to the GC17.

I love players like Beams and Medhurst who you can always count on to give a good effort, week in week out.

He'll be a great champion no doubt.

He won't even be on the table when the GC are recruiting.

I have been in contact with a bloke that is close to the family, and assured me he will sign a contract with Collingwood as soon as offered. He loves the place and we love him.

I remember Beams saying playing for Collingwood was his "ultimate dream".

The kid has integrity. He won't turn his back on us after we came through with our promise to draft him. He will be a pie for life. Take that to the bank.:thumbsu:

As I read it, no one has suggested a player can be forced to move.
Perhaps you can show me in the post you quoted where it says a player can be forced to move

If someone has to agree to force that sounds like they're being forced. Whether this is how the system will work or not it still sounds unfair to both the player and the club to me.

Muphy has improved meaureably since his debut.

But I was thinking more along the lines of the way he moves, Selwood is a more powerful mover, Beams seems to have sublime evasive skills, and that very relaxed delivery, his handball looks nonchalent at times, but they are spot on.

Without getting too carried away, Simon Black is the style (I repeat STYLE) of player he seems to assimilate.

What the hell are you talking about?
That doesn't make the slightest bit of sense and in no way relates to the post you quoted.

What part of this are you having difficulty with?

A player must agree to move to the GC or a deal is not possible

Now I think that ^ is pretty basic English, but you apparently have some other version of what we speak

Its hard to see any Black in beams, probably because Black has twice the body mass by the looks of it, hence easier to see murphy. But you might be right, either way, you'd take it.

Murphy is a small collector, not exactly someone who cuts through the congestion (not calling Murphy soft). Beams is of a similar frame (not size yet) and seems to play like him, good at getting a handball off in space and IMO moves like him. Murphy is similar to Cousins without the inside prowess in those aspects (but still very good in both those aspects).

No need to be a douche about it, it's not hard to understand where i was coming from. Obviously i took it that the player is forced to 'agree' to move.
