Forget the injuries, every club has them.
We have some major issues that I cannot see getting any better.

Our rucks - 18th in hitouts, our ruckmen look slow and old and our only shining light is about 6 years away from his best football. Jolly's game tonight was as bad as Fraser's 2009 ANZAC day game when Hill went down. Our backups are a 3 times retired 33 year old and a discarded player from West Coast who couldn't get a run of games when fit last year.

Our Backs - Apart from Shaw, we cannot win a one on one. We're too slow and Toovey is the biggest lost for us this year.

Our Midfield - They just don't work hard enough. I was always told you work twice as hard without the ball than you do with it, at the moment, our midfield remind me of the downhill skiers of Carlton

Our forwards - Cloke and thats it, no plan B, and if he gets held we just don't get anyone front & centre. The ball just comes out far too quickly and that puts pressure on our backs who need to work as a team of 4 or 5 to win the ball.

Dumb mistakes - I can take skill errors, but dumb mistakes will always cost you games. kicking it to 3 on 1's, going straight back down the line, flicking handballs into the dangerous zones, these are mistakes that AFL players should not make, in fact, if I was coaching under 8's I'll be dragging them for those sort of dumb mistakes.

The Pressure isn't there, we allow the ball movement in close to "fall" out into the running players. This has a lot to do with players cheating forward, or not working anywhere near hard enough.

We are a long way off the top 4 sides, we are lucky if we play finals this year.

Good summary.

Our problems are
- being sheepdogs/down hill skiers
- inability to play on a man and to chase as hard to tackle as to get the ball
- inability to lower the eyes going into the forward line
- not outnumbering the opposition in contested situations

It's great to think that ball and beams might help these a bit, but really that is a stretch and two players can't fix a whole team.

4 wins 3 losses with a list as strong as ours is very disturbing. top 4 is looking a distant target.

With Geelong and Sydney to come, forget about top 4. 2013 Premiership died tonight literally. Collingwood need to concentrate on actually getting things right on field first. They need to fix a few major problems before we can aim for top 4 again.

Game Plan: 1. wait for someone else to grab ball 2. bomb ball as high and long as you can in any position of the ground without looking. 3. start running forward to be a show pony and kick a goal, but lets all pretend like we dont have issues.

Agree with everything you have said. The bolded has to be the most infuriating aspect of our play. What it looks like is that they think it will just happen for them, with little effort required.

Great post. I think the no Plan B when Cloke is not working is a concern we've had for sometime. Further, when will we stop these small forwards creating havoc?!?! Recruit or develop someone to stop the rot.

We will Struggle to make Top 8

Gameplan 2, chip backwards until a turnover and or chip backwards until backwards you can go no more, so proceed with Game plan 1.

Geelong are using a first year make version of jana pittman in the ruck and are on top of the ladder.

Our Backs - Apart from Shaw, we cannot win a one on one. We're too slow and Toovey is the biggest lost for us this year.

You are right, Ben Reid, Nathan Brown and Dale Thomas are no good. I remember the glory days seeing Gavin Brown playing on Dunstall, Modra etc...

Our Midfield - They just don't work hard enough. I was always told you work twice as hard without the ball than you do with it, at the moment, our midfield remind me of the downhill skiers of Carlton

When it comes off its called gut running, when it doesn't its down hill skiing.

We definitely need a plan B. Lets target a young key position player who works well with Cloke, I hear melbourne have one...

You would actually drag a seven year old player for making a mistake?

Yep, they should all get second jobs

Calm down, grab a tampon, there is a long way to go yet

We'll be better off when we finally get to play the easybeat teams I reckon, but yes top 8 will be a struggle for certainty over the next month. Tonights performance was insipid. I reckon we'll land 7-8th this year. Top 4 and top 6 is out of the question.

What the Point making the 8 in 7th or 8th where we would most likely get knocked out in Week 1

Teams are now doing exactly the same thing to us that we were famous for 3 years ago.

Pressure and numbers around the ball is foreign to us nowadays unfortunately.

The GamePlan is Passed it's used by date

Not much point apart from getting some extra games into Kennedy, Witts, Dwyer etc...didn't Geelong just barely make top 8 last year?

Please, it's not the gameplan - we can barely win hitouts, clearances and other crucial things like sticking tackles and ball pressure, the basics really, before we start to even THINK of implementing the gameplan whatever it is.

That's Plan B of the game plan.

Plan A is to slow up the play and then play a short kicking possesion game that involves kicking backwards and sideways.
