That was Craig Kelly on Ben Doolen & it was a front on charge...

Although kelly charging a sydney player front on also jogs the memory

In any case daicos was no clean skin when it came to sniping

Different era, different rules, as I stated above.

Interestingly Rohan chose the soft option of selective quoting - side-stepping, as he calls it - rather than replying to my full post. Its easy to snipe when you take part of a quote and therefore take it out of context. He's the Tarkyn Lockyer of Bigfooty.

Yeah he over looked scooter kicking that bloke early 1990 as well. That was one hell of a snipe but i loved scooter so who cares lol

I think we lack hardness in the team especially in midfield. We really miss Burns in there as he was just about the hardest player at the ball in the comp. I think its to be expected with such a young team as they're bodies aren't fully developed. I don't think this will be such a big issue in a couple of years when we have a group of players that have had 3-6 years in the system.

Not really Tim. You tried to draw an analogy through 4 members of the premiership side & compare them with Didak & Lockyer.

When you realized you had made poor examples & were shown for it, you decided to play the man.

Let me know when you are are happy to respond to my full quote (you know. the stuff about different eras and different rules) and I'll happily continue this discussion.]

The different era is a cop out.

Have a look at the Hawthorn unit, pit bulls like Campbell Brown, Sam Mitchell & head over the ball types such as Sewell & Hodge & you can see that players who put their head over the ball are tough in any era.

We on the other hand have the likes of Lockyer & Didak, who squibb contact & it's no great surprise we come out short.

Honestly, you think Tarkyn Lockyer is soft, what a load of total bullshit.

One thing Tarks isnt is soft, he has been consistently one of the hardest tacklers at our club for a number of years now. He is still the only forward outside of Medhurst willing to put pressure on the oppositon. Lockyer's problem has never been his attack on the ball or opposition, his problem has been lack of pace since his knee injury.

There's no need to counterpose mongrel and skill as though their mutually exclusive categories, but some hardness is absolute gold dust.

For me Brisbane from 2001-2003 were a better outfit than Geelong. Voss would, unlike the rabbit puncher Lloyd, jumper punch you in the head ten times in ten seconds while his team mates got around to harass any interlopers. Michael at the backline could just throw smaller forwards aside like little girls. Lynch go roid-esque on defenders, Brown promise to you that you would taste brain fluid if you got in his way, and then deliver.

I don't care what anyone says, that kind of aggression rattles players, especially if the whole team is smaller. Those players were not simply thugs either, they knew how to play, but their intimidation factor gave them a real filip that is hard to quantify.

Dermie understood the power of that, as did Dipper. Even the ferret Rhys Jones was an intimidating presence, despite his size. He just projected a clear message - I am going to smash into you and get in your face at any opportunity.

Rocca has a bit of it but the last great hard-man who added some real intangible edge and toughness to our side was Jarrod Molloy.

Another aspect of hardness and grunt is that unflinching head over the ball stuff. The two aspects - the toughs and the hards.

I reckon we have some natural toughs in Rambo, Rocca, Bryan, and Brown. Hards in Swan, Beams, Maxwell, Anthony and Stanley. Whether they play or are effective players as well is another thing. A few is all you need, but you also need to be determined to let your ragey rainbow shine.

I think you should sit down & have a look at this weeks "On the Couch" for verification...

Yep, I always believe in Mike Sheahen and James Hird.

As I said, Lockyer has slowed down, even more so this year, and that at times might make him look less desperate or hard then he has been.

I'd rather back a player that has played 10 or so years at our club with great distinction, then bag the living shit out of him.
