The pies are on the brink of very special era coming up !
Over the next 5 years the pies could start a new Dynasty and completely wipe off the old Colliwobbles persona.

This current goup must stay togetherwhy, cause firstly if they can get to the last dance this year and win it.This starts a new chapter in the club's history. If they can win the big dance they start the BELIEF factor.

Geelong has had it ! When you can win the first flag, you have the belief to do it again and again.

The special thing with our current group is that they believe together they can WIN the big one.
Fantastic news that Didak,Sidey and Reid have re signed. We need to get Cloke,Anthony,Dawes and Medhurst who are left to re sign with the pies, and galvanise the group,to move forward and create the new history.
With a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, malty can go out with a flag and Bucks can take over a very strong and determined group.

Your Thoughts !

Last Dance?? ...No, I prefer to win the premiership. The Dancing with the Stars thing can be left to Licca. Maybe we can offer it to Tarks if he retires, although he might not be able to reach up to his partner if she's wearing those super high heels..

Anyway, good thoughts but we need to focus on the premiership..

How about we win the first, then talk about dynasties and other shit

Couldn't agree any more :thumbsu: Just give me a f-ing premiership and I will be more than happy to talk about dynasties like back to back, three peat, etc....:)

This

Plus in this day and age it is very difficult to keep lists together

These two. Geelong haven't been hurt by the lose of very promising fringe players like Prisimal and Mumford. Hawthorn don't seem to be missing guys like McGlynn and Kennedy too much despite both guys being in Sydney's best 22. Collingwood didn't hurt too much after we lost Rhyce Shaw or Tarrant.

The most important thing is it is hard enough to win one, talk of dynasties before winning one is just naive, arrogant and stupid to be totally honest. There was media hype and without seeing first hand evidence I am sure fans for St Kilda where talking as if there promising young group was bound for multiple flags. Yet here we are and they still are yet to win one and there is a pretty decent chance they won't win one with this current group. It seems everytime a side looks like winning a flag they want to talk about how many they will win.

It is also impossible when you have a list as strong as ours to keep the list together. There are a number of guys on our list who will get an easier ride and more money at other clubs. Guys like Goldsack and Anthony inparticular would walk into a number of teams best side and therefore be worth more coin to other teams. Medhurst and N Brown are others.

FWIW despite not really deserving a spot so far Wood is another who probably would not be happy with his chances of playing senior football in the short to medium term.

Then there is the possibility that someone like Blight wants to go home or someone like Rounds thinks they should be playing senior football and thinks they are a better chance elsewhere.

With the number of guys fighting for spots the likelyhood that none of them decide to take the selfish path of securing they finanicial future and futhering their career elsewhere is slim. Realistically some will want to go. It may not be this year but it's going to happen. What we as a club have to make sure is that we get the best possible return for these guys and replace them with equally valuable guys or prospects which address a need.

If we lose a Goldsack or Anthony we should try and package him up in a way that will get us a good developing ruck. If Fraser retires we should try and find a similar experinced scrap heap type ruckmen to ensure that there is competition for the ruck spot if Jolly goes down.

First we have to win one and get the chokers tag of us and then it will be alot easier for us to win a second one or even a third one on a row because the players are less likley to choke. With this list we have the tallent to be a powerhouse in the next 3-5 years, we have a lot of young blokes like Beams and Sidebottom who are only 19 and Reid 21 its exciting times for us magpie fans.

I think sides like Geelong (07-now), Brisbane (01-04) and Essendon (99-01) have shown that it is very hard to keep your list "together" as a whole, unless several big names are willing to take pay cuts compared to what they could earn elsewhere.

Ultimately whether or not we can keep this list together will rely solely on the players themselves, and if they want to leave us for more money (WSYD, GC) then they may, and there is little we as a club can do about it.

What we can do is continue to recruit "smart", knowing that we traded away our first 3 picks last year, we need to take advantage of all our dp's this year, even in a compromised draft.

The depth we have at VFL level is where our future strength lies, with young players developing, we will be able to "cope" with losing 2-3 "big names" to other clubs when the salary cap bites us hard.

Ultimately, the decision(s) as to whether this list stays relatively "whole" will come down to individual players, but there is plenty we can do both on and off field to make this list want to stay together.

We are Collingwood, so as Opti stated, let's take 1 flag for starters, and then build upon that, before talking about dynasties or "changing of our culture".

Dynasties are so hard to create that really they should only be talked about in retrospect. Port dominated h&a for 4 years. Geelong too and have too date only managed 2 flags and it could possibly be one if not for a Bryan brain fade, or none if St Kilda kicked straight or 3 if they kicked straight against Hawthorn. Hawthorn beat Geelong with a very young and promising list and have struggled since.

That's right ST. We have only so many positions available and a surfeit of talent, especially in the back-line. I'm thinking about Goldennuts here, in particular, and Jack. Goldy is showing that he is definitely the goods, but will he be squandering his career at Collingwood - both in monetary and playing terms? Would other teams require him more, pay him more and pay overs in a trade to us - or a straight swap of need for need.

Looking at other clubs who require defenders and who have an excess of what we require, rucks, might be worth trading with. Sydney, and possibly Carlton are clubs that fit the bill. Both need KP players and have excess rucks.

Would hate to turn Goldy over to that rabble though. Sorry for the imagery.
