I really think he will end up being a super midfielder. Would be more happy to get him than any other player in the draft atm. GET HIM BOMBERS!!!

thoughts??

Yes and I mean this in the nicest way possible. How highly do you rate him that you don't know the correct spelling of his name? T-H-O-M-S-O-N

From what I've seen of him he seems like a decent young player but I'm not sure he quite fits in to what we need.

We have enough of the slow-medium paced in and under midfielders, we need some midfielders with geniune pace and the ability to hit targets.

its dubious if he's even worth pick 39 IMO. if he couldn't get a game for port this year then he can't be too much chop.

He was picked at pick 11? Averages 14 disposals and has only played 7 games this year and 28 in 4 years. Has a bad relationship with mark williams and from what i have seen, he could turn out to be better than half, if not, more than half our team and i rate him quite highly. has not yet got the chance to prove himself and i really hope we have a hard look at him.

  • PORT Adelaide midfielder Adam Thomson is in demand.
The 22-year-old, who played seven games this season, is being courted by three Victorian teams.

Thomson has played 28 matches in four seasons after being selected at No. 11 in the 2004 national draft.

"There's been a lot of interest in Adam from across the border," Thomson's manager Justin Reid said.

"You're never quite sure what will happen in trade week, but with the interest that's been shown - some clubs really seem to rate him - we're pretty confident Adam will have a new home by the end of the week."

Port Adelaide's board has tentatively endorsed coach Mark Williams' ploy to put the club's No. 4 and No. 22 draft picks on the table at trade talks today.

"We'll look at anything," president Greg Boulton said yesterday. "But we are unlikely to trade away what are very, very valuable draft picks."

Talks with Fremantle will be intense as the Dockers gauge what Port will offer to secure Josh Carr, who wants to return to Alberton.

Port will also test Fremantle's willingness to trade ruckman Robert Warnock. The Dockers have rejected Carlton's offer of pick No. 24 for him.

"In respect to Robbie and Josh's decision to move on, then we'll look for that best deal. It becomes interesting, particularly with Robbie, because of his age and ability," Dockers coach Mark Harvey said.

"We'll speak to Port Adelaide about Josh during trade week and we'll just see what takes place from there."

I don't know how much SANFL you get over there but this guy is not the answer to whatever problems your team is having

From what I heard he stunk it up big time in the SANFL finals

How do you know he can be better than half our list? You got a crystal ball handy?

id prefer not to go down the road of recycling

sounds like hes been tried & tested & come up short & now were sposed to turn im around?

not what we would be after imho

I know they do play slightly different roles but I would probably be happier if we looked at skipworth over thomson for a couple of reasons..
1.Knows and lives with some of the boys already
2.Wouldnt come at a cost(trading picks)
3.By now the coaching staff would know what to expect from him as in strengths and weaknesses as he has been around windy hill for a while now...

No thanks.
Slow, poor skills, average endurance. All the qualities that we don't want in our midfield.

Agree with this. I'm sure he has upsides but he doesn't sound like an addition that would improve our current situation all that much. If we need depth we can probably find someone like him late in the draft (not in terms of current skill but maybe potentially same role).

Also, shouldn't this thread be called "Trade: Adam Thomson" to keep the naming scheme in order. WE CAN'T LET CHAOS REIGN!! :D

Maybe "Trade: Adam Thomson!!!" just to keep the urgency in the title.

Herald Sun, October 7, 2008

"And the door is open for two other Victorian-based clubs- presumably Melbourne and Essendon, which have third round draft picks ahead of the Tigers and Kangaroos - to trump the frontrunners for the 22-year-old."

I dont trust players that have a "bad relationship" with their coach after 4 seasons in the system...

To A Thomson, Essendon says NO !

we dont need him, we have enough slower inside midfeilders as it is, we need fairly quick outside midfielders with great skills

i wouldnt have him in our best 22 from what i have seen
i would rate lonergan, watson, welsh, mcveigh all well ahead of him in the inside midfeilder department and if hislop starts showing something i would rate him above thomson as well

Thomson set to be announced a Tiger

Adam Thomson trains with Port Adelaide earlier this year

RICHMOND is set to announce the first trade of trade week, sending its third-round draft pick to Port Adelaide in exchange for Adam Thomson.
The 22-year-old inside midfielder has spend the past four years at the Power, but has played just 28 games in that time, and only managed seven this year.
Richmond's general manager of football, Craig Cameron, said the deal was almost done, with pick 42 likely to be the price.
"It's progressed a fair way – I think it's just a matter of us sorting it out with Port Adelaide, which I don't think is going to be a sticking point," he said.
"Probably he'll be for our third-round pick."
Ruckmen are the big talking point of the week so far, with West Coast's Mark Seaby looking for more game time and Dean Laidley throwing Kangaroo Hamish McIntosh into the mix, but Cameron said the asking price was looking too high in the current environment.
"I think that the clubs are looking to see if they can get first-round picks for the ruckmen they're trying to trade, and we'd like to hang onto our first selection.
"I don't know if anything will loosen up as the week goes on, but I think it's going to be very difficult for them to move ruckmen for first-round picks.
"Everyone wants to go to this draft."

So much for that.
