He played there in the last round of the VFL and MM mentioned it in the press conference after the St Kilda loss.

#1 pies - people keep mentioning JA going back because the club had set him for that role since he was drafted. He only went forward this year due to necessity. Now I know he did really well there and his kicking is exceptional but we have plenty of depth there and some worries in defence. It makes sense that people will talk about JA going back.

IMO if he does go back he will quickly become our best defender and solve the worries we have very quickly.

Anthony should be played back next year. He is a natural defender and would be a great kick out of defense. People who say he lacks the size to play KPB don't seem to realise that he is the same size or bigger than guys like Scarlett and Wakelin. Rusling will take over his forward role next year and be more of a threat if fit. Anthony will fill the hole down back that Wakelin leaves.

Yep, I think that's an excellent comparison. Would obviously be giddy if he turned out as good.

Agreed. Which is why so many of us here would like to see Ben Reid given some exposure in defence as well.

Every club in the league needs another tall defender.

Geelong - Scarlett (Taylor pretty fringe, Egan may be back though)
Hawks - Croad (Gillam as good as Zac Dawson)
Bulldogs - Lake
Saints - Hudgton (He'll be out, McGuire maybe in, but that's it)
Sydney - none (Bolton is it, but still smallish)
Adelaide - Bock, Rutten - only team with 2 excellent talls
Kangaroos - Firrito. Gibson - hardly tall. Harry O sized

My point, you really need 1 tall/strong, and cover the rest with tall versatile players that work together zoning the space 25m - 65m out. That's modern footy. You'll win more than you lose that way

Did anyone here see the VFL game in which Reid played CHB?

He had good looking stats -from memory it was something like 20 possessions in only 50% gametime, in an unfamiliar position, in the first game back from injury. But were they quality possessions? Did he set up much rebound? Did he beat his man?

Very windy day so CHF wasnt so much used the ball was run through the "geniune" CHF position but 20 positiosn seems to suggest Reid dint struggle

Reid is the obvious choice for CHB, and represents our best anti-Franklin weapon. Thompson from PA sounds worth chasing as an inside midfielder option, which leaves the problem of finding a second hand, big-bodied ruckman from somewhere, maybe as with Thompson , through a player swap.

I agree that CHB is not a priority. Reid played in defence in his final under-18 year, and I thought was initially recruited with CHB in mind. Perching Anthony alongside him in a Clement kind of role, with Brown at FB and Goldsack in the mix, and the defence could be a fairly formidable unit a year or two down the track.

From July 2008. I do believe that I was one of the first to predict that Reid would be CHB, and in fact went further, suggesting that he could also be our Franklin weapon. This week will probably be the test of this theory.

I know you did make a good prediction. I made the prediction that collingwood would win a grand final within the next 3 years back in 2008.I was at collingwoods footy training,and walking back to the car i had this massive feeling it was going to happen.i was right wooo hooooo.By the way reid will do a good job but buddy is a very very good player.No taz does concern me, and when nath brown comes back and taz to the backline we are good to go
