the conditions definately didnt suit us- wet and slippery. there were alot of mistakes but especially alot of dropped marks from n'ablett and harley. hopefully its dry for the gf! and im confident.
It didn't rain.

Geelong were too good. It's our own appalling list management that saw Richards and Bryan rucking for us, no-one to blame but ourselves.

I think you misinterpret the match. Collingwoods game style puts massive pressure on the opposition and this is seen by supporters as their team not playing well. Virtually whenever we play well the opposition isnt given the opportunity or time to display their normal skills. Their supporters interpret this as an off day but it happens too often. Sydney claim to have had 3 off days against us this year, WCE were off last week, you guys reckon you were terrible against us early in the year and again tonight, the list goes on.

Either we are just incredibly lucky that teams keep not showing up when they play us or its something we are doing. Collingwood of Malthouses era have played this style, the pressure. It stands up pretty well in big matches. I am not saying we are the most talented team by any means but the suppressive effect this pressure has on games makes the critics characterise us as having little talent almost surviving on heart alone. That is untrue.

You played well tonight but not as stylishly as you are used to. If you hadnt played well you would have lost.

I agree with what some have said above, this match will work for you next week. Good luck

I agree the pressure you guys put on us was a huge factor. But we blew you away in all the stats except tackles. I felt we were off the boil and while the Pies played with their usual never say die attitude and style it wasn't champagne football from the Cats. But I will take an ugly win anyday.

I think tonights game was better preparation for next weekend then a 8 goal belting would have been.

They will now prepare for next week knowing its going to be harder then tonights match, and will lift accordingly.

Agreed. Remember our last preliminary final win? We pumped the Tigers (after pumping the Dogs) and then got pumped in the Grand Final. Meanwhile the Blues had tough matches against Brisbane and then North.

REB

This game means nothing. We got over the line, and that's all that matters. We were flat after our week off, but we will give it 300% for the grand final.

pies made us play shit... and we still won

There is truth in this statement... Collingwood have the game style to upset us no doubt. We outperformed them nearly all over the ground and came within a kick of losing the game. Am I worried? Hell no. Both Port and Roos play 2 of the most open style of game in the league, which obviously benefits our side. I'm also tipping that the GF will be a bit of a let down(everyone other than Cats supporters), as we will take it out by 7+ goals.

On the downer.... My whipping boy Nath looked absolutely lost out there last night... 3 marks for the game?? This should be his strength.. Look at Cloke, he moves very well around the half forward line and presented fantastic last night.. Nath did not look like he belonged I'm afraid.

On the other hand, Gary was unbelievable... When he kicked that goal in the last quarter I didn't even jump out of my seat, just sat in disbelief. Without a doubt the most emotionally taxing game I can recall going to.. Not a game you will forget for a long time if you were there.. ;)

I agree with this. When Collingwood did this to us in 2002 we fell over. You didn't.

only thing i disagree with is i think the game earlier this year, cats were in control the whole game. tonight, well cats controlled the last quarter as pies were always gonna come home strong but first 3 quarters were pretty even.

Collingwood had the better of the Cats in the second quarter of the Rd 15 match, but basically I agree. The margin in that match flattered Collingwood. You should have won by about five goals. I think the margin last night was a truer reflection of the match IMO.

Congratulations. Whatever you do, don't lose to Port next week.

we kicked 2.7. in the second quarter. if we had of kicked straiter we would have blown you away

Was that the Bass Straiter or the Straiter of Gibraltor

Nah I have a feeling even if we were accurate Collingwood would have fought back again. There just seemed to be that feeling for the night that it was going to be a close one no matter what.

I was there last night, great match, great crowd, great result (for me....)

Pies pushed us hard last night, if Mooney kicked that goal in the last to put us 20 odd points up we would have kicked away. Collingwood did not give up, they will be a force in a few years.

If we bring out 'A Game' next sat...hopefully the drought will be broken and G-Town will be rocking!

Go Catters!

If you win the GF, you definately owe us now. IMO that game was EXACTLY what the club needed. You won, and rightfully so (you are a better team, let's face it, and coming off a 2 week break when we were coming back from an extra time game in Perth) but we certainly didn't make it easy for you, which should hopefully expose the fact that you aren't invincible and that you still do have to try to win. Although if you are against Port in the GF I'm sure you'd know this anyway, since you lost to them not too long ago.

Cats controlled the game more ealier in the year (basically you controlled the entire game we just wouldn't let you extend the margin too much) but this time was a little more even... although that could have been because of the rain factor. Also I imagine the crowd would have been at least a little offputting for Cats (and that's another great advantage of having this match before the GF).

Anyway, was a good game. Look forward to Pies V Cats in 2008.

PS. Sampler, it did rain... but just before the match and not during. Doesn't mean it wasn't slippery. I know this because I was in the city about 2 hours earlier and it was pissing down.

Exactly. A win is a win
Dont be stupid. If we have that many basic skill and decision errors against Port (if they win), then we may lose.

And No. I did not misinterperate the game. Collingwood puts great pressure on us. I am well aware of that. Do you think there will be less pressure in a Grand Final?

Need to step it up.

Yes we played like poo, but we will be the better for it. I think this speculation of Collingwood being a force to come is a little bit premature. Sure they can hang on to a scrap, but they haven't got the ability to bury sides and would probably still have had a close match with Richmond last night!

I thought for a bit.. Shit.. ive wasted days trying to get tickets and wasted money on the flight.. But once that siren went.. f*&k.................................. Thank god its over

Don't be too disheartened, Collingwood don't allow any sides to play at their best, which is clearly their strength. You just gotta grind it out against them.
