We are off to Perth for the Eagles v Bombers clash and will spend a long weekend in Perth. I haven't been there for about ten years and my other half never has.

So from Thursday afternoon through to Monday morning, does anyone have any tips for some of the city's best kept secrets?

Any cool spots just outside of town that's worth a day trip?

Definitely the beaches, but it is really cold here at the moment due to the wind.

Mandurah is a really nice spot for a day trip, its only a bit over an hour and it has some really nice cafes/restaurants etc in the town centre next to the estuary.

Northbridge is also good most nights, just don't get yourself into trouble after about 11pm when the roided up tap-out wearing meatheads are looking for a fight

At the moment, the beaches aren't really a good option because of how cold it has been. Possibly during the day go down to Mandurah, go for a coffee in Subi area, check out Kings Park, go out an about in Northbridge if you like... but really this place has very little. Go up to Lancelin for a day if the weather is nice.

Yeah I remember the beaches are spectacular and thanks for the other tips, will definitely take at least one day trip. Mandurah sounds very nice too.

 about the food though, nicky...

Not taking mum either:thumbsu:

I visited for 10 days last year and struggled to find a decent restaurant. The prices were rubbish too.
On my last day a was served a fly that had been cooked in the bread I almost put in my mouth.

It made me feel incredibly ill. They offered to give us new bread, on the house - wtf? I told my friend that I couldn't stomach any of their bread, then realised I couldn't eat anything from there so we cancelled the order.

The manager came out very apologetic, told us how clean his restaurant is kept and this has never happened before, then offered us a free glass of wine each. I honestly couldn't even think about that either (did i mention that i was hung over?)

Anyway we left.

Prior to the fly being served in my food our waiter "congratulated" my slim friend on her pregnancy. I could not fking believe it. She was humiliated that he did it in front of me. She has a lovely figure but like all girls is paranoid about being overweight. Although the waiter was embarassed I still shot him some negative psychic thoughts on account of being so dumb.

Oh Boy, wowee that sucks. The pregnancy comment just never ends well, why do people even bother to comment when you can never be 100% certain anyway?

One of my hidden talents is sniffing out the best food everywhere I go so I shall get to work as soon as we hit the town.:thumbsu:

If wines your thing, head to the swan valley. heaps out there and its not a bad drive either. even better head to busselton, Margaret river. heaps to do down there too and only a 2-3hr drive

For a restaurant I recommend Hippo Creek at Hilarys. Aint never been to the subi one, I assume it's more upmarket style as Hilarys is quite casual.

The prices are QUITE expensive but the food is not undelicious.

Screw Flanders

Surprised you haven't been told to visit Freo. Wander down there Sunday - breakfast, markets, check out the harbour, get fish & chips at Cicerellos or get some good food on the capp strip (personally enjoy Pizza Bellaroma). Enjoy some beer at the Sail & Anchor.

You'll have a good, long relaxing day.

Make your way north along the coast, visit Cottesloe and assorted beaches until you get up to Hillarys. :thumbsu:

Day trip - Rottnest Island. You could easily spend just a couple of hours there if you don't have the time and the added bonus of looking around Freo before/after the ferry.

Nothing beats Cottesloe at sunset.

Coming from someone in Perth, the food is generally terrable to be honest considering prices (every restaurant is a rip off in general). If you want good food just check out the restaurants around Paterson's stadium (Subiaco/ Leederville area) and see what places are full. Generally most places around there are good but quite a bit expensive.

Plenty of good food in Perth, just have to be resigned to the fact that you'll be paying through the nose. Generally I find the best ones tend to be the ones who make a feature of their local produce.

Second the trip down to Freo. Wouldn't recommend the trip to Rotto in winter - I went last month, stayed for four hours and still ran out of things to do.

Just got back from perth last week, Freo is a beautiful area, also went to hillarys enjoyed that as well. You should also try Supagolf (minature golf course with larger balls). Subi looks a bit small for me, dont know how 40,000 get around after a game??
