Strange happenings tho , are there any parallels elsewhere ? Question not a statement
With a quick glance at other injury lists (currently - not cumulatively), most sides have multiple soft tissue injuries (between 2-5) which isn't unexpected in a sport of this nature.

What I do find interesting is that the percentage of soft tissue injuries out of all injuries at RFC is relatively low (given we have so many injuries).

We've been really unlucky with ACLs and seem to have a few syndemosis issues over the last couple of seasons.

Injuries that occur at training isn't a stat I usually see reported but we've had a few in the last 2 seasons. Only other club that comes to mind here is Essendon (and that may be recency bias).

Our quantity of injuries (combination of collision and soft tissue) has certainly been high in the last couple of seasons. For a young list, it's not ideal. When we are back and competing for finals, it's injury (luck and good/bad management) that can make the difference between making finals/making top 4 and potentially a flag. While we are down the bottom, it's annoying but not crictical. I'd be stunned if we aren't reviewing it though.

The club might as well save some coin and just appoint some random Mum from a local U14's team, as they could do no worse than the muppets we've had in charge the last few years. This bloke would want a big improvement over the off season and into next year or he's gonna have people out for his head in no time.

What’s been so bad about him? Hopper looking like playing a full season for the first time in how many years? Lynch has pretty much been fit all year, Dion has probably played the longest stretch of games he has in years.

True. He knows how to look after old blokes coz that’s all they had at Geelong. But seems like he is all at sea with the younger guys.

Max Holmes had trouble first couple years didn’t he?

1 guy over 25 on our injury list or something like that. Maybe he's just a bit demanding of the younger guys. However, Jonty, Trainor have managed to get through and Alger (all contact injuries or Trainor now rested). It's more younger power-based players.

Maybe, but I think it’s more a case of the club was specific on what they wanted from Serpell. Build these kids up to required standard so in 3 years time they are smashing it.
Serpell is doing what he sees is necessary to achieve this goal on a player by player basis.

shhhh leave it to the adults

Until the AFL goes back to playing rootes the game is going to get worse and every club will be in the same boat. The game is too fast to hard and just playing stupid. I said earlier in the year and during that this is the worst season i have witnessed in my life. I miss the days where it was man on man and the best team won this. For me ANYWAY I lost interest years ago and only watch us and nothing else. I don't even buy into all this crap footy shows apart from the Front Bar which at least gives me something to smile about concerning the AFl. Really sick tonight was asleep woke up in pain and had the afl going as my eyes opened first thing I saw was a collingwood player beautifully and as they were going to the ground he even place his hands around the guys face and head so when he hit the ground wouldn't get heart. His reward free to the other guy. :(

When you look at the ever increasing numbers of games missed by first year players due to injury year on year, this is an AFL wide problem though, not just Richmond. It probably just feels like it is given our huge intake of young kids.

I think it just shows how demanding the game is getting and how young we bring kids in to play the game. US sports don't have to deal with this as much as most players come into the sport at around 21-23 years of age after playing in the college system so are already much more physically developed. Even then they typically still take a year or two to adjust to the increased speed. We're expecting 18-19 year olds to go from high school level to an elite athlete in just a year or two, it's crazy.

Agree, he's got the experienced players back on the park. Always going to have issues with young bodies coming into an elite program with high demands on their underdeveloped body. As time goes by Lalor, smillie and co will develope so their bodies can cope with AFL footy, just as cotch and grimsey did when they started.

Serpell said he can improve players speed. Our players don’t look quicker at all ….. kind of makes me sad seeing our mids and flankers plod around

If he's not talking out of his ass then you wouldn't be seeing any results of that now. Would take at least a couple of years depending on how much work they do during the season.

How long was this guys contract?
Probably 2 years?
It's a bit concerning that Geelong have no injuries, and they decided to not promote Serpell (did they fire him? Or did he look elsewhere). I guess you can look at it that it's encouraging he came form there and they are doing well with injuries. But I would've thought they'd keep him if they liked him

He left them for a promotion.

Would like to take a moment to commend the work Serpell has done overall in his 2 preseasons in charge of our fitness programs.

Despite the unfortunate injuries that have impacted the likes of Smillie Lalor Hotton Clarke Sims Ryan & now Cumming it must be said that when you look across the whole group you can clearly see a significant change in the players bodies, especially some of the younger kids who didn't look like footballers even during the course of last season, but when you've seen them across this preseason and now heading into the season itself, for the most part they now look like they are ready physically to deal with the rigours of an AFL season.

Serpell coming on board was never going to be a quick fix situation where we'd see instant improvements and it was always going to take a few years to truly get the full benefit of his program being introduced. The other thing that has become quite noticeable is that we now seem to err on the side of being over cautious with players returning from injury, rather than pushing them to get back as soon as possible.

Guys that have returned from ACLs have been told that they need to do the full 12 months before they are cleared to return to play, guys that have had repeated issues are now given an extra few weeks to try and ensure that there won't be re-occurrences. Now before anyone starts with the Smillie issue, let me just say that I believe the club is on the right track and everybody is incredibly frustrated that the issue is still impacting his ability to get on the park, so I'd rather not revisit that particular issue again. FWIW I'm hoping that we don't do anything to hurt Cummings long term prospects once his 4 week rehab is over and I don't believe we will. If he does play it will be done because there is minimal risk of him doing further damage and similar to Gibcus getting a game last year it will be to give the kid a taste of it before he gets the surgery and endures months of rehab.

As far as Serpell is concerned I believe that next year is when we will really start to see the full benefit of him re-training the players as the majority of the group would have had 3 preseasons under his guidance and the fitness will improve once again.

How the farked did you guys love and thump up this. I just read it and I can't make much sense out of. Drugs I'm on must have been working overtime that day lol

Injury report has me thinking Hotton is a big unknown and surgery may be come a necessity if they cant get the hip to progress.

Cumming likely wanting to do rehab to try and get gametime in his debut season. Fair enough. It could flare up again and require surgery or might need surgey post season. Pray we are able to get it good enough to play some games this year.

Sims, I hope we take our time we him, saw a lot of talent last year.

OHB and Ryan, please be conservative as we will need to trail a 2nd ruck this year or give nank a good rest.
