Hard to see how he couldn't be better than Henry. Sharp is bigger, stronger, faster, fitter, can kick further/better. Doesn't mean he is a lock as I think there will be stiff competition amongst Sharp, Stanley, O'Driscoll and Chapman. But we aren't going to miss Henry one bit and will be better off with Sharp on the list instead.

Sharp is daft punk to Henry’s Eiffel 65

Hope it went like this:

Hardwick after running his eye over the Suns' list, "So, have we offered this guy Sharp a contract, he looks a likely type?"
"No boss, Stewie hated him and kept him in the twos."
Hardwick, "Really?"
"Don't worry boss, we've got a bucketload of academy kids coming for you to work with next year."
Or...
Hardwick.. what do you mean Sharpie is gone?
You Muppets, he's the only reason I came up here!

If Sharp locks in a wing position then Chapman surely would stay in defence.

Was not a big Henry fan, but one thing Henry had a pretty elite handball. I think he saw the game pretty well and always had good timing with the handball release and they were always well weighted through traffic. His kicking let him down at times and was shocking in front of goal.

I’ve got this from a good source who knows one of Sharps best school buddies. Apparently Sharp thought the deal to Freo was done last year and even sent all his gear back to Perth. When it didn’t happen at the last minute, GC offered him a basic contract to extend his tenure, but he refused. They then told him straight up he wouldn’t be playing for them again in AFL.

I can’t understand why GCs refused to get the deal done when they knew that any pick they would’ve gotten would be used up in a bid

I really wasn't a big Henry fan, but I think some of what he ended up achieving goes a little under-recognised.

The being open in the right spot at the right time to receive the ball doesn't happen by magic, it takes a lot of hard running and ability to read the play.

Sharp clearly has some traits well ahead of Henry, but even as Bell acknowledged he has a lot to work on footy wise.
Between O'Driscoll recovering some of his 2021 form, Sharp coming onboard and Johnson/Frederick/Chapman I'm hoping we can sort the position much quicker this year.
I still think longer term Brayshaw should be rolling through there too to maximise our flexibility and unpredictability in the midfield mix.

I don't think it is in their interest to facilitate players leaving the club.
Unless they’re on massively backended contracts, then they give away top 10 picks to clubs to take them.
That’s what pissed me off about last years trade period, they literally handed the reigning premiers pick 7 to take Bowes off their books, then haggled with over a F2 vs a F3 for Sharp.

Very excited, Acres replacement right there, this was the plan last year but we got distracted by JOM.
It’s all going to come together in 2024!
From memory, we only got distracted because the Sun's weren't being reasonable -- they were trying to make out like Geelong did when we were trading for Jordan, whereas we weren't having a bar of it.

At any rate, he's a welcome addition to the list (...plus IIRC he's a Freo boy born and bred - something we ironically actually haven't that many of on our list)
Really liked the look of him in his draft year too, but his career fell into an all-too-familiar, dark and grungy Sun-shaped black hole* before it ever really got started.

Welcome home Jeremy 😎😎 Glad to have you aboard mate.

( * ...why yes, I am a Soundgarden fan actually. Why do you ask? 😁)

Was concerned when I seen he was delisted by GC. Now assuming it was all by design too make it easier for Freo? Surely he was good enough to be rookied. Like him and I'd wager a bet he'll play 100 + games for freo

You're right that it doesn't happen by magic. The opposition coach allowings/encourages it to happen. If the opposition can't have the ball, the next best place is in Henry's hands. Takes forever to assess and make a decision that is usually a chip kick going nowhere, with a high rate of turnover. When we play St Kilda this year, I want Henry getting 30 possessions. Not Hill or Wanganeen-Milera.

In order of likelihood
1. Neither Sharp or Henry turn out to be anything more than fringe to average AFL wingers
2. daylight
3. Henry becomes an elite winger, Sharp fringe to average
4. Sharp becomes an elite winger, Henry fringe to average
5. Both become elite wingers

I guess outside of option 3, we're okay with the outcome

To be fair, for us, I'll settle for a fringe to average AFL wing that sticks around. We seem to be able to make any wing at least average given the last two chums that left us

It’s not, but when you usually do that to a player you back yourselves in to keep them that extra year and change their mind. If it’s true that they straight up told him they wouldn’t be playing him then what was the point of keeping him?

FWIW I think it was more likely just a combination of him being fringe and likely to leave that kept him out of the team. In the sense that if he had a year to go he would’ve cracked their 22 for maybe 10-14 games without being a regular

I think Chapman will slip into Young's previous role.
We don’t agree at all..but yes I agree with this. His kicking isn’t at Young’s level and either is Wagners. Both do always attempt that risky kick out of back 50 which is a positive and we did it more in the last 6 or 7 games. To no surprise our ball movement was much improved those last few games.

Totally agree, Henry was vacating the wing to come inside to get possessions (ie. get to Melbourne). I think our other candidates for the wing will maintain width better for starters.

dont think thats accurate at all, henry had great positioning and was always an option for our defence to get out of pressure, kept his width well and ran all day
