Good poll. Both have been maligned at different times. Both in career best form.

My bias says Wells, but it is a line ball. I would say Wells is more creative (just) but i think Griffen has better footskills (just).

And to the poster above, both would be in Collingwood's starting 18.

Both would be in Collingwoods best 5 players. Only players better at Collingwood than Wells & Griffen are Swan & Pendlebury.

For the Dees, I'd stick Wells in a FP and he'd fill a need.

Griffin by a bit at this point- has proven himself in big games (Wells hasnt had as many big games to do so so it's slightly unfair) and has been consistently good for a couple of seasons now.

I see Wells as being where Griff was this time last year- just starting to really put it all together and play some fantastic football. Another year of this form and he may overtake him.

But at the same time, Wells is two years older. Griffen is only 24 and you'd think has much more improvement to come.

Statistically, Wells takes more marks but Griffen leads him in inside 50's, goals, goal assists, tackles, disposals. But it's all pretty lineball either way. The only big differential is that Griff is averaging almost two more inside 50's per game, 1.3 goals per game to Wells' 0.7 and Griffen lays exactly one more tackle per game on average (4.5 to 3.5).

In conclusion, both amazing players and two of the best players to watch. Griffen has more runs on the board and is having the slightly better year.

If anything Griffen is actually underrated, not the other way round. He has been performing at this level for 2 seasons now and is a gun. Simple as that.
Wells has been very good this year, but still Griffen for mine. The tell tale sign for me is that Griffen is the best player on his team & Wells isn't - and the Dogs are a better side.

And no Donk, Wells would not be our third best player behind Pendles & Swan. He would be close to top 5 but not sure about that either.

Wells is having an outstanding year and is easily around a top 10 player in current form.

I would still take Griffen though, but to say Wells would maybe not be in Collingwoods best 5 is just not true.

I would rank Griffen behind Thomas but there's not a great deal in it. Based on this year would potentially have Cloke ahead of both of them but it's hard to compare midfielders and key position players sometimes.

I'm not being bias, I was just stating the fact that Wells really is in career best form since the criticism is generally targeted towards his lack of consistently. For what its worth I rate Griffen very, very highly. Although I do think Wells is the more talented of the 2.

Griff has the runs on the board and Wells is finally living up to his potential after years of suffering from OP. Both classy units but Griff ahead at this stage due to consistency. Will be interesting to revisit in 12 months if Wells can keep this form up.
