Griffen by the length of the line up for Harry Potter yesterday. Bloody hell that was big.

Classic DVD player response. I'd have to agree though and take griffen, a player who can win it both inside and outside.

I thought this poll was Griffin from the Crows,

Putting Wells against Griffen is a joke, Wells having 1 good year every other year he has been a waste of space.

Griffen by so far it not funny:eek:

Wells has easily been the best player for North this year. Both in consistency and impact on games.

Wells meet Picken, see how he goes with a tag

Watched much of Wells this year? Your post indicates not.

Wells was born in 1985, Griffen 1986, so that equates to one year separating the two.

I'll rephrase. Wells has had two more years in the AFL system and is only just showing to be anywhere near Griffen.

Stats for these 2 this year are similar , but Wells having he best season so far still does not stack up to Griffen

Grffien
Inside 50 - 91
Goals - 19
Contested Pos 155
Running Bounces 34

Wells
Inside 50 - 71
Goals - 11
Contested Pos 145
Running Bounces 8

Fair enough you want to compare your player to the best but it's a long string to bow... or bow to string... or whatever that saying is....
Griff is Bulldogs elite - he took the step up 2 years ago and has maintained the standard consistently since.
Not saying that Wells isn't all class but to maintain it like Griff has for over 2 years is very, very rare.

Fair enough, but from an outsider's opinion this year I've rated Goldstein's season higher. I'd have Wells & Swallow neck and neck.

Goldy is number two, Swallow started very strong, but Wells has just been class all the way - in the wins and the losses - and is clearly the best so far.

Resorting to digs at the team aaaand we are out.

Typical North supporters need to have a dig at others to make themselves feel good.

Gus, mate, its a bit unfair to make that generalization about all North supporters because that's simply not the case. Griff is quality and as much as I hate to say it is probably ahead of Wells so far, but IMO Wells has the potential to track him down in the not to distant future as I believe he is the more naturally gifted athlete.

That is of course he maintains his high work ethic and stays injury free.

Strangely enough these exact sentiments have been repeated by north supporters in the Ward/Ziebell thread.

Yes it is unfair. I apologise. Typical insecure North supporter then (excluding the secure ones) who need to have a dig at the oppostion.

I think they (Griff and Wells) are on par athletically. Having seen Griff up close through juniors and now in the AFL, he's an absolute monster. Definition of a power athlete. In Wells' two extra seasons in the league he's only just been able to keep up with Griffen. The potential is there but you also have to factor in the high possibility that Ryan is going to be around longer, and still has potential improvement to come.

Settle down. I am a huge Griffen fan and it is much more of a dig to suggest Wells is nowhere near Griffen, than what I said.

Plus, the "very, very rare" comment about Griffen's form over 2 years is ridiculous.

Career's so far would go with Griffen, but this year alone Wells has had the better season.

Griffen is a very underrated player. Any team would love to have a big framed guy like him who can run and carry the footy. Wells this season is fit and injury free. He is doing a lot of North's grunt work in the middle and using his pace when he has space.

How are you judging that though? Griffen has been better statistically, and his team is higher on the ladder with him as the standout player. Is almost a lock for his second consecutive best and fairest.

Put it this way: I kinda view Griff as a gut-busting workhorse who can break lines effectively by always giving 100% to every contest inside and out

On the other hand when I say Wells is a more gifted athlete I mean that he just seems a lot more composed and naturally controlled with his movement, smarts and overall ability. It's hard to explain but here's a half decent example - Griffen is more like Nadal and Welly's more like Federer. Both champions with very different styles, but longevity is in favor of Wells despite him being slightly older and within the system a couple of seasons longer.

As for further improvement, sure he very well might take his game to a new level, but I can't see why Well's couldn't either. Remember, Wells has been hammered with injury for a good chunk of his career. It's no supprise that with a pre-season and a injury interrupted run has helped him rise to those high expectations..

I could argue that being a good player in a good side is easier than being a good player in a poorer side.

Although to be fair to Griffen, obviously I have seen more of Wells this season.

Until this round we were lower on the ladder than you and you'd definitely be able to mount a case that we were poorer. Griffen was our shining light through that poor passage. Until this round just gone our seasons were pretty much identical.

Hang on, two posts ago you were going on about him being the standout player in a team higher on the ladder?

Make up your mind.

Wells has been pretty good this year but Griffen is our best player by some margin and in the top 10 players in the comp.

Wells getting underrated though he has only had about 3-4 quietish games this year with a couple of dominant ones and the rest good solid games.

Which is why I said up until the round just gone. Read my post's carefully instead of just making up imaginary problems.
