Hawthorn played us better; they played rope-a-dope Ali-Foreman rumble in the jungle style and won plain and simple. Either that or they were just playing for score-board respectability and it proved a winner on the day - but I think not.
There are similarities between the rumble in the jungle strategy and what was played out yesterday. We were taunted on the goal line. Our punches were absorbed by them in our attack. Just keep on punching George - you're the greatest. They ran the boundary. The better coached team won, which makes Hawthorn the better team.
I think Mooney has been bashed over the top. I questioned the fwd line in the prelim with stokes, varcoe, lonergan (thread gone), as being weak. What's this hindsight garbage. AFL has $700m reasons to spread GF cups around. Our team was analysed to death. Our FWD weakness started to become more and more obvious, it was there before the GF. I was happy that Varcoe and Tom L were there. There is more to be said on Stokes inclusion, we'll have to wait and see. WAS STOKES PASSED WHEN NOT FULLY FIT? With Chapman and Stokes under injury cloud, why wasn't Gamble given game time (over WOJ prelim if necesary).
Stokes and the Coaching performance remains the two big question marks for me.
George Foreman should not have lost, neither should Geelong have. Just because Geelong was outcoached does not mean Bomber is a bad coach. He was up against most of the AFL analysing us.
