Were you smart at school

Well, I'm not, nor was I, very smart at school, though I still managed to get straight A's all the way through to Year 12. I guess I just tried really hard in everything I did and I always managed to climb over the 85% mark. Not that hard really. It's also due to peer pressure I think, from a very young age everyone THOUGHT I was intelligent and I felt compelled to keep up a high standard. Not to mention the subtle  encouragement of my parents..... This year has been considerably harder and I've gotten a couple of high B's, while my exams (due to the fact I'm a crammer) weren't exceptional. :)

I sucked at essay writing and didn't have the inclination to master it.

Yes I am well aware of your aversion to referencing and dislike of providing evidence to found your claims :D You'd find it a doddle if you used your daily afl research techniques for academic purposes :D

I was put into accelerated learning classes between grades 2 & 4. Some kind of social experiment that my school was doing at the time.
I didn't feel good about myself, in fact I felt really abnormal. I was also painfully shy so it made things worse when I started getting picked on by the kids I wanted acceptance from.

I started slacking off so that I would be kept in the same classes as other kids my age. After that I never got back into stimulated-student mode ever again.

I dropped out of school before finishing year 10 out of sheer boredom.

The public education system may have failed me but I have no regrets. Things happen for a reason & you live & learn.

I was smart as in primary school, then satrt of high school I was a B student, Yr 9 B/C...then in yr 10 I got 5 D's :D

I just finished yr 11 and Ive sorta recovered to a High C, Low B student...... (I hope  )

If essays argued with me while I was writing them, so I could see what they don't get, I'd be set. As for footy arguments, I'd love to be able to go to the library and find stats on forward 50 contested marks in 1999 :)

Started off smart, ended up average (too lazy). My best quality was arguing. In year 12 our entire year had to do 2 argumentative essays in these practice English exams. I got the highest marks in the school for mine, beat all the eggheads!

I guess I could say I find school pretty easy. I really hate school...but I pretty well off in most areas. Except the creativity...art and graphics. Eekkk I'm so glad I had my last ever Graphics lesson today!

I've just finished year 11 and I did well, but that's because I worked hard. I'm not naturally smart, and if i want the marks, I have to work hard for them... but it works, so hopefully it can carry through to next year.

I completely arsed school. Achieved maximum results with almost no effort at all.

Pity I didn't have the same level of sense as intelligence or I would have stayed longer and gone to Uni and not ended up where I am now!

Looks like a lot of us were underachievers, I was the same. Except at maths, I made an effort to barely pass it and dropped it for vegie maths as soon as I hit year 11.

I was extremely lucky to pass Year 12, as I was the biggest tosser I know for that entire year. No work, thought I was $h!t hot, then panicked with a month to go and arsed a score that just scraped me in for uni.

One of my mates had in his school report in year 9: "Paul's work has improved markedly since he was separated from roobear".

My year 12 report from my English teacher said: " with the right attitude, roobear could be in the top 10% of this class. However my experiences of teaching him French over his schooling life would indicate that holding my breath for such a turnaround would be life threatening".

Oh well, I got through somehow

Thats weird, my parents were offered to put me into that scheme but thought id be better if (though i did skip a grade) with kids of my own age (or near enough). Later on the boredom of being ahead of everyone else sought of left me in the same sort of situation as you, just tired of school. Left in Yr11 for the same sorts of reasons, only arrived by via another route. ;)
