West Coast - When will the AFL step in?

Until West Coast players show 100% effort, the AFL should do nothing. Watching their marquee mid, Tim Kelly each week not being bothered to chase or run shows where they are as a club.

They need to help themselves first by getting in a competent board and football department first.

As the saying goes, the fish rots from the head. They've made so many poor decisions with recruitment, footy department etc. Unless this gets addressed, you can give them all the draft assistance in the world, but culture and competency are the 2 biggest things that they need to rectify.

They have pretty much replaced everyone over the past two years.

They have started trading out older players with currency.

They have split top picks when deemed appropriate to generate more 1st round talent.

The board has been accused of not making decisions / change. That is no longer the case.

Your post suggests the Eagles are sitting on their hands doing nothing expecting g the AFL to solve their mess. That is far from the truth.

Mmmhmmm - we get clear indications from vic metro mummy boys that they will come home first chance they get and we pick them we told we are incompetent.

We split the picks and draft local / sa or vic country we get told we are incompetent.

Every year there’s vic metro kids flat out intimating that they will go home.

The biggest hoo haa in the media is when JHF goes home.

How's Jamie Cripps going?

Does Jamie Cripps happen every year?
I'm not claiming to know the figures, but I would have thought WC were one of the better teams able to keep their draftees.

Reid aside, can't think of many that have wanted home asap from WC

It may be my memory, but we do seem to be hearing a lot more players saying they won't go interstate in recent years, with Vic Metro players amongst the worst offenders.

Was part of why the AFL extended the initial draftee contract period to 3 years.
Is this something just reported in the West? Ive heard of stuff all. Even the Sheezel stuff was only in a WA article - by all means correct me if I'm wrong?

Maybe that's because the Eagles do their research and don't draft mummies boys.

A tad risky drafting a kid who is refusing to go interstate and making it known.

"Reid aside." Lol. See what you did there.

Personally if I were a Saints fan I'd be more worried about NLM not extending his contract at round 23.

One of the reason we haven’t struggled to keep draftees is because we have looked after them when they are older. Haven’t ditched them like hawthorn.

This is changing, we are getting more hardnosed (see Oallen and barrass) This will no doubt affect our ability to hold on to players.

We seem to be very averse to vic metro kids with high picks. What filters back to fans is the club being told they will come home first chance they get.

Baker is heart and soul and he would be great for a young group but they paid a premium and it clearly hasn't helped them on field.
Basically it was
Out : Baker
In : Hotton
For Richmond

We all still love Baker , He was developed beautifully by the RFC and hopefully he will teach the eagles kids well

Well he sets training standards, has kicked 22 goals from 18 games. He’s signed a one year extension.

Your point?
my point is he's WA boy who ran home, not dissimilar to SA boys going home or Vic kids

Sheezel stuff is true as i know the family members
he wouldnt want to live away from melbourne

Thrillem Duursma is the player to watch this year as its a similar situation where they want to get back to melbourne

Who is NLM ?

5 years ago Richmond were about to go back to back

But i will take Richmond's next 5 years ahead of the eagles every day
Who cares. Your 2019 fixture getting the last 7 games @ home and not having to play us in Perth aswell was the AFL heirachy setting you up. 2020s missing 5 games and alot of minutes so that will always be an asterix year. Bark back all you want, i wouldn't swap being West Coast for Richmond all those decades. AFL in the 90s & 2000s is Golden Age compared to what weve received since Richmond style came in vogue.

The worst thing is we're currently trying to replicate their turgid brand of football from their premiership years.
