I rate Thompson and he is a midfield option. Johncock never managed to become a midfielder with us, which has hurt his value.

We have Petrenko to step into Johncock's role across the back line.

Perhaps the upgraded 2nd rounder will give us the opportunity to draft someone like Broadbent before the Power get him.

Keep in mind that Johncock to Port seems to come up on a yearly basis.

Not to mention two weeks ago on Channel 10 they said that Thomson has asked for a trade but neither the player, agent, or anyone at the club has said anything about that either.

Was it an actual quote or was it just Bickley/KG saying it?

No quotes, they mentioned he wanted to play with his cousins at Port; his recent issues might have played a part in things; and that a trade might involve Port's 2nd round pick and\or Thomson.

Thomson keeps getting mentioned as a swap and a second rounder, personally I think thats not good enough and pick 4 for Johncock is a bit over the top. What about Johncock for thomson and a swap of first round picks?

Stiffy is worth pick 8-12ish; pick 4 is too much, but he's worth a mid/late first rounder.

Stiffy is worth more than what was mentioned, but a 2nd rounder+Thomson is probably the best that they can get from Port...and it even mentioned that Port were reluctant on that...so i can imagine Port offering their 3rd rounder+Thomson...which is far from worth it... which is why, i'm hoping, he just decides to stay (wouldn't want to risk ending up in Melbourne, West Coast or Freo), because i seriously don't want the crows to even consider a deal like that.

seriously, they get disciplined and then at year's end, it's 'i want out'...

Ah well, considering pick 4 seems to be acceptable for a back pocket with questionable fitness, numerous off field misdemeanours and who cant go into the midfield, maybe we can interest you in trading pick 10 for Ebert. Hes near AA level as well.

The question that needs to be answered is, 'is he contracted?' If he is, then Port plays ball fairly or they dont get him. If he isnt, I'd rather see him in a Melbourne jumper than get Thomson and their second rounder. Thomson is nothing in the scheme of things ATM. Looks a pretty average player to me. I seriously doubt he would ever play a game for us. A second rounder is likely to be a solid player, nothing more. Could end up a complete bust too.

If he is contracted, and thats Ports best offer. We should make him fullfil his contract. Even if he plays for the PAMFC all of 2009.
