Essendon were good in the first quarter, mainly down to their pressure. It was clear they couldn't maintain that for 4 quarters though, and when they dropped off, we pounced.

I guess I don't know a lot about how Buckley wants our structures to work, but I'd like to see Cloke push up the ground more when he isn't doing well in our 50.

blair was great today with all the in and under work was a great team effort going to watch the replay on fox soon

Huge shout out to ma main man DAYNE BEAMS... having him back and firing on all 4 makes us a 20% better team and makes our midfield scary good. Beamsy was again fantastic today but he normally is so we all take it for granted.. hardly heard him mentioned...

Agreed and if Witts goes out it means White will have to share the ruck duties.
Which I don't want, because I think he and Trav are working well in tandem despite not kicking a lot of goals.

How many frees at stoppages did they get?

Grundy conceded EIGHT and there were at least half a dozen others. Shithouse umpiring.

All the Essendon supporters I was at the game with would have argued otherwise.

I got a message from an Essendon mate asking how much I was paying the umpires, and to be fair he doesn't normally complain about that stuff unless he thinks it is really bad.

I think that early on we got absolutely mauled by the umps, then in the back end or so we got a lot of suspect frees and didn't get paid a lot of easy ones...

Was only the 3rd qtr where Essendon got screwed on a fair few calls.

My mate texted me at quarter time simply saying "all over". I sat tight and hoped we could turn the game around! We did, and then went on to win. I let him know about it too haha.

Mind you, this kid wrote us off after North kicked the first goal last week. I continue to tell him to have faith, but some people just couldn't be positive if they were the plus on a battery!

If you read the game day thread I think you will find many were calling game over toward the end of the first quarter. Generally the same people who call for players to be dropped after one quiet game and coaches to be sacked after one loss.

And generally the same people who jump straight back on the bandwagon half an hour later when the tide has turned!

In the overall context, we were slated by some media pundits to be looking down the barrel of a 0-6 start to the season after the shaky start vs Freo.

Against that backdrop, to recover the way we have has been really encouraging, and we're doing it without Cloke having to win games off his own boot.

Except the fact that Ryder basically just had to run into Grundy to have a free paid against him at any time

Beams doesn't get enough credit. Every time Collingwood is in deep shit he's like a one man band clawing back until everyone else gets their arse into gear.

Yes but what you have to remember is that Lachlan Keeffe is in fact a god or at least some sort of minor deity.

Lachie's poor form of earlier in the year has completely evaporated! Our unfashionable back six comprises kids, no-names, and an old man who many think is a very average footballer (not me Maxy!), yet we are doing the job week-in, week-out. And then there is the possum if course, who is back to his devastating best.

Sidebottom appeared to be at least his very competent roadie...

Talk of our lads not wanting to play for the coach is a distant memory...may we never hear such nonsense again.
This is what I was thinking as well. Players seem happy. They are signing contracts and we are improving. Seems like everyone is pretty happy. I have no idea how far we can go this year but at the moment top 4 is the goal as I think cats and hawks are the only locks for that.

How good is our intensity and tackling pressure? Something that's been missing from a Buckley led collingwood side throughout 2012/13.

This to me suggests the players are loving their footy, are finally 100% in tune with the coach and the message and that we are now moulding an actual TEAM.

The little 1 %'s are the things that go missing when individuals play for their spot and themselves, the tackling and intensity is the stuff thst comes from the good relationships forming.

Goldsack was brilliant, Josh Thomas as sub was extraordinary, Sidey, Beams, Pendles, Swan amazing!

The last of those lads left last year. And it's making a huge difference to team morale.

Btw, what a ****ing epic win. I'm also on a liking spree.

Mate if you didn't think it was game over or at least very close to it when we were 37 points down then you are waayy beyond normal levels of optimism. I was about to shoot my tv, I had fetched the gun and loaded two shells into it at that point.... and then I noticed a subtle change in the game.... and I remembered my credit card was still maxed out from the new TV I had to buy after the Freo game! ....Ok fine call me a bad supporter...
