I think on our day we probably wouldnt match it with a full strength st kilda/geelong... which beggs the question (even if you disagree with my initial statement...)... What sort of players do we need to include into the top 22? That said, I think collingwood has a legitimate of a flag in the next 3-4 years.

I look at rucks and think that they are acceptable - especially with the promise Wood has shown recently.

Midfield say no more - its great and its going to get better, we have grunt, skillful and match busting players for the midfield.

Back - again looking really good - really impressed with harry o, nathan brown seems to be coming along nicely, would love to see goldsack start to become consistent. obviously with presti getting older we are going to need to have a full back ready soon...is brwn up to it weeek in week out? what about ried where is he at (dont get to much vfl :()???

Forwards looking great - i think Anthony is not a match winner and perhaps we could obtain a power forwarfd but i think he does his bit in the side and will often convert the backs and mids great work on the scoreboard. i think most of our sucess this year has been our dangerous small forwards with lots for forward line presssure...??? similar to the cats of '07 ???

we have depth, talent and youth on our side....perhaps all we need is time!>>?

would love to see your thoughts...ps a pies not a dogs supporter ;)

I think we have most of what we need, just that it's not quite there yet.

Backs; Nathan Brown, Ben Reid, Jarryd Blight, Shannon Cox, all have big improvements in them over the next 2-3 years.

Mids; Steele Sidebottom and Dayne Beams will be superstars. And we have John McCarthy, who if he can ever gets fit has been spoken about my MM as our next midfield star.

Forwards; This is where we may lack a 3rd tall. We have plenty of small/mediums sized options, but with Rocca almost finished, we would need Chris Dawes to step up.

Collingwood will defnitely take Key Position Players in this years draft, quite possibly with every pick, or we may even one or more of our picks for a trade for a KPP.

We have the run, the defense and the rucks to succeed, all we need is a little time and a little improvement in some of our young players, and of course, like all premiers, a good dose of luck.

cox and jolly in the ruck

brown and franklin in the forward line

scarlett and bock in the backline

sewell in the midfield.

it would help...

For mine we already stack up against Geelong well and judging their recent form i would back us in against them this year.
Geelong are on the slide not just this year but over the next few years, Milburn, Scarlett,
Ling, Mooney, and Ottens are all around 30 or over and with no really damaging tall forwards yet they will still be a very good side but perhaps not a great side.

St Kilda have two real advantages over us, one is a champion forward in Reiwoldt and secondly the Saints bottom six players have really stepped up markedly, more so than what ours have i dont see the gap between the two as massive and can see it closing over the next 2 years so my only real concern is a big key forward and a replacement for Presti, whether that comes from Reid or Brown remains to be seen.

PPl are forgetting we have Alan Didak- he is the greatest player ever-better than judd-better than abblet- better than john lenon-better than the queen. he is like a cross between a power ranger and maradonna but with smaller legs.

I'm going to flog this old horse again since Mark Stevens has pointed out that the Hawks and Bulldogs are considering big, bad, bald, beserk, biro-using, bustling, bruising, bag-carrying Barry balderdash-speaking Hall-bags.

I think nabbing the crazy for a year or two until Dawes comes on could be great insurance and pretty cheap in $ and picks. Give crazy 300k and maybe our 3rd pick to Sydaney.

Bock style CHB.. we have two very low possession shut down types in Presty and N Brown.. need that 2nd tall defender that can hurt them the other way.

Once Presty retires N Brown will become the shut down FB and hopefully Reid will take CHB, he's getting great numbers in the magoos.

I think a lot will come from development from players already on the list.

The ruck is an area that has troubled us for a while and Wood is showing really solid signs a Wood and Fraser combination seems to have a great balance. Wood's confidence, tank and build will continue to develop.

A more mobile key defender CHB type who is able to provide rebound will help us. Reid is the front runner for this possie and is a player who I think will fit the role to a T. Beyond that we have other options like Blight, Reed or even Goldsack.

Above I mentioned Blight who is a real X factor type talent and if he makes it could really add either across the half back line as a Birchall type HBF or possible CHB or the wing.

Ja is continuing to learn and improve and I think he is also adding the ability to get the ball higher up the park which will allow him and Cloke to be a lot more flexible and exploit mis matches easier.

Medhurst will find form. All of the above will make our fowardline more dangerous in the future.

On top of that Beams is only averaging something like 60% game time at the moment.

Wellingham and McCarthy both have a huge amount of upside too.

Sllllmmm, a veritable feasty. Scrumdidilyumptious

I think our draft/trade priorities should be:

1. Key forward with Rocca retiring
2. Key defender with Presti in 30's
3. A #3 ruck to support Wood/Fraser with Bryan likely to go (Keefe is long way off being AFL ruck)

I think we have the players on our list already. The main need at this point would be for a successor to Presti, IMHO. More midfield guns are always welcome.

As we have generally done in the past, we'll basically replace the same type players that retire/get delisted.

Looking at guys nearing the end, Rocca, Presti, Lockyer & O'Bree-not including delistings.

We have Dawes, N.Brown & B.Reid, McCarthy & Sidebottom to cover these guys. Obviously Beams is already in the team.

I'd look at chasing Brett Deledio if he was available as an outside player with great speed and disposal would tip us over the edge.

It would cost us a 1st rounder + XXX but I'd seriously look at that deal.

But our 1st rounder will be so late it will virtually be a 2nd rounder

Agile tall Defender. Key forwards and a young small forward with the potential to go mid. This rotation is an awesome aspect of team structure and we should identify and develop now. We have Dick coming on - so another younger one would be good.
