Just wondering what your realistic expectations are for your club in 2007. Everyone would like to think their club will be Premiers at the end of the year. However, in reality, there are probably only about 6 sides who could truly have serious expectations on winning the Grand Final.

Oops, I thought this thread was about Richmond, so voted 9-12 as they seem to have first dibs on 9th :p . Guess I should read the thread first and vote later.

I think Geelong will finish 5-8th, and climb into the top 4 in 2008 once Nathan and the Tomahawk have more games under their belt.

You forgot a 5th option for Richmond:

"9th-10th and into 25th year of rebuilding"

Between 7-11 and building.

Saints have had "the list", but have not come up with the goods in their quest for flag number 2.

Blues have the next list and will improve greatly in 2007, and look out the following half a dozen years.

To rack up flag 20 by 2015 is a possibility.

Exciting times ahead!:)

LOL

Hey parrot, could you remind me that theory you had on why West Coast couldn't win a flag? :D

Forth year in a row St Kilda in the finals, thrid year in a row Carlton win a spoon. I can tell you enjoy it. :)

Of course "the list" will play finals again. How could they not.

Guys like Clarke, Big Nick, Kosi, Ball and Goddard didn't become Saints through great recruit spotting. The spoon kings got the list throught the draft and should have had 2 flags by now.

Watch the blues young list show you how it is done in coming years.

And here's me thinking this thread was about expectations for 2007.

LOL @ a Carlton supporter calling anyone "spoon kings".

Third spoon in a row, four in six years . . . all hail the new "King" :D

I would have thought your spoon record enables the term "Spoon King" to be directed at the Saints anytime...anywhere.
Just as our reference to "Premiership Kings" is one we will never tire of!

Good Luck with "The List" in 07. Surely you will not stumble again?!?!?

..Forth year in a row St Kilda in the finals,...

JD, do you call being in the finals success? Sounds like it. At Carlton 2nd = 7th = 10th = 16th = failure. No difference. Only flags count. That's why we are the most successful Club in the competition with 16 flags, and the Saints are the least successful with a 26-spoon/1-flag record. Some Clubs, like Richmond are even satisfied with 9th finishes. Different expectations I guess. :)

Depends where you are coming from.

Are you trying to tell me Carlton were a successful club because they were successful in only 16 out of 110-odd seasons?

I take it you'll be happy with spoon number 4 (3 in a row) this year?

Yep, some successful club you follow.

realisticly, 7th-11th
dont expect hawks to take a back-step, improving youngsters, more forward options, jacobs back, i dont think carlton/essendon will be advancing past hawthorn yet

Hawthorn will take a nice step forward this year i feel. Their younger players have another year under their belt, expect finals next year i think, with an outside chance this year.

Carlton will struggle to get out of the bottom 4 again unfortunately, but if we play out of our skins i can't see why 10th would be out of the question. We've got a ways to go but i don't think we'll get our 3 peat unfortunately :D

I'd say 5th-8th again.

We could miss the finals if we play like we did in the 2nd half of 2006 all year, or we could make the Top 4 if we play like we did in the 1st half of 2006 all year in 2007.

It will all depend on whether the development of kids like Chris Egan, Sean Rusling, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas and Scott Pendlebury - All guys who played cameo roles in 2006, but showed something - Can bridge the gap to cover for the loss of Chris Tarrant to trade, Alan Didak to injury, and Brodie Holland to suspension, amongst any other injuries that may arise. Guys like Dane Swan, Heath Shaw and others should continue their improvement as well.

Those guys are all very talented, and have all so it's entirely possible that they WILL step up, and quite frankly, as a football club, we'd be expecting them to.

The problem with the Pies list is that it is slow and old, especially the midfield, which was badly exposed in the latter part of the season as the tempo increased. And for some bizarre reason, Pies decided not to recuit any midifelders with their top draft picks, The Pies exploited the under-the-radar-effect, in the early part of the season, when several players of limited natural ability, were in career best form. The Pies main problem, is a quite marked lackof younger list talent. Prediciting a bottom 6 and probably bottom 4 finish next year as the rebuilding process begins. If the Pies get a good run with injuries, I think 12th is possible. :)

I probably expect 9-12th range as a result of our improved spine (Lloyd + Michael) and the development of our youngsters which will see us win some more games but not necessarily enough to make the finals. At lot will be contingent on the injuries we get, if we have a good run we may be pushing for 7th/8th spots whereas if key players get injured we may be looking at the bottom couple of spots.

It will be interesting to see if players like winders, dyson can finally cement a place in the 22 and if our previous years draftees can start to get more regular game time.

Thanks for your comments.

Unfortunately, your comments will not be considered as you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, and you tend to stalk me around the boards, as though I care what you have to say.

Collingwood > Carlton.

Margins of 72 points and 44 points in 2006.

It's not even close. That must be painful for you.

We've got a good list to carry us to the finals, but have a sense that winning the flag is out of reach for now, so another 3 years on we should be ready to give it a real shake, and keep its supporters happy.

Unlike Carlton we don't have to rebuild from the very bottom-up.

Not really. The Blues list is a lot younger and our younger player group are just miles ahead of what the Pies have talent wise all over the park. The Pies are being proped up by large contingent of old, slowish players, and was the reason they were exposed so badly at season's end - i.e lack of leg speed. The obvious major deficiency on the Pies list, is a marked lack of young midfield talent. The Pies decided to rectify this problem by overlooking the 2nd best 2005 draft midfielder, Ellis, and recruiting 2 KP players to replace Tarrant, and one of the backline KP oldies. So, still no midfield talent. Deny this problem if you want, but the fact is this board has been flooded with Pies fans voicing concerns over their recent terrible list management decisions, especially in regard to their midfield. :)

Yer, I agree with moss rocket . We should of had 2 flags by now. Im a "never say die" saints supporter but still. 07 is our turn Clarke,Gardener new coaching staff should be enough..... its believe or burn :P. "The Saints Are Coming" Greenday and U2 Think so...... So u should. LOL
