 Can anyone tell me what is happening with this year's Draft?

If Carlton win less than 3 1/2 games what happens with their priority pick. If they win less than 8 games in 2 years do they get a round 1 priority pick ie: say picks 1 and 3 if they finish 15th or have the AFL changed it to a second round priority so our picks would be 2 and 18?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that if a team wins less than 8 games in 2 years then they get a first round priority pick. Wouldn't this p**s Essendon off if they finish last and we get the first pick as a priority and say pick up Gibbs.

I believe the 2nd round priority pick has been brought to stop teams like Collingwood getting early priority picks for only 1 bad season because of injury or a form slump, but the first round priority pick is still available for teams that win 8 games or less in 2 consecutive seasons:rolleyes:

No you have to have 16 points or less in two consecutive years to get a priority pick at the of the first round. We had 18 points last year so it doesn't count. If we get 16 points or less in a given year, we get a priority pick AFTER the first round.

If Essendon come last they will get the first pick.

Would be interested though to get 16 points two years running, while two different teams finished behind us but got more than 16 in the other year. Conceivably you could get a priority pick before anyone without ever finishing last.

As I understand it, we have already blown the chance to have a priority pick before the first round by winning 4 1/2 games last season. I believe you have to have consecutive seasons of 4 wins or less to get the priority pick before the first round. The only priority pick we would be eligible for would come after the first round. But when it is all said and done I hope we win too many games this season to qualify for a priority pick. We are almost guaranteed pick 2 or 3 then 18 or 19 so that will do me.

It was my understanding that it's simply 8 wins over 2 seasons, hence both we and Essendon still qualify for a 1st round priority pick.

So if Essendon win 1 more game, and we win no more than 1 more game, then the Dons get the spoon, and we get picks 1 and 3.

Gibbs and Sellar? ;)

No Funky, it is as Medium and I have suggested. Just because you are hobnobbing in corporate boxes these days, doesn't mean you can brow beat us into changing our minds. :p

That would be mad to get picks 1 & 3

Anyway Old Dark Navys, did you change your picture thing?

My understanding is that the 4 wins or less over 2 seasons only starts from this season, so no one will be eligible until end of next season.

For example you can't use last season & this season to qualify.

Although the 4 wins or less in any one season will make you eligible for a priority pick before 2nd round.

I think we'll be doing well to win another 3 this season ( as injuries starting to mount).

Hence pick 1 or 2 & 2 picks somewhere between 17-20 should see us with 3 really good players.

Also did Ken Sheldon's son get BOG again last weekend for Oakleigh, Carlton should get him to sit out of this draft so we can get him next season with a 3rd pick ( if he warrants it, sounds as though he does ).

That's correct. Still, that could mean we end up with picks 2, 18 and 20. According to Greg Miller, any picks within the top 20 will almost mean the club picks up a very very good player. Even better, we don't have to trade players for this.

Then why are we wasting our time losing close matches without the incentive of priority picks? :o

It doesn't make any sense.

I thought the baord were still talking with the AFL about the priority pick because of last year.

Dont you love the way the AFL change the rules when we are down, didnt see them doing this when st.kilda where down the bottom, yet again the AFL @#*#ing carlton.

I think the club are asking for special consideration because they changed to a new PP system knowing that nobody could qualify for it until next year and leaving us in the cellar with no extra pick in the year of the superdraft.

So can somebody actually tell what were getting?
jesus!!!

if we're last and the only team with a PP, we get picks 1, PP-17, 18, 36

Forget the early-early pick then. What do we need for a first round priority pick? Is it 4 wins, or 5 ½ wins?

If that's all we get then so be it. We already have a stack of untried talent on our list, and any top 20 pick this year will be gold. If we have 3 top 20 picks, we'll be singing.

Starting next season if a club finishes with 16 points (four wins) or less in one year, a selection prior to round two of the national draft will be allocated and only after two or more years of 16 points or less will a selection prior to round one be granted.

This would see a club that finished on the bottom of the ladder with 16 points or less given picks 1, 17 and 18 in the first year and if it qualified for special assistance again the following year, picks 1, 2 and 18. The club would receive the first pick in the pre-season draft in both instances.

Previously a club was awarded a priority pick before the first round of the draft if it finished a season with 20 points or less.
