Further to this, why the **** do some clubs get their full name on the ladder, scores during the game etc. Its always Collingwood V Geelong Cats. We know theyre the ****n Cats stop wasting space on the screen
I've wondered the same thing. It looks amateurish and hard to believe whoever is handling that stuff at their level can get it so wrong.

Fox get it right. Bulldogs is the only one complicating things, but still good they just chose one word.

The AFL site has a mish mash of names that looks messy and makes zero sense. Why tf is Suns and Giants in capitals??

Plus the graphics aren't good. Lose the shadowing and the dash after the number. Also get rid of the red 'top 8', most of us can count. Have the top 8 shaded darker. Rant over.

‘The locals’ is condescendingly used to describe non-Victorian crowds disagreeing with something.

Can’t remember the last time Collingwood or Richmond supporters were described as ‘locals’ by commentators.

Ground ball gets.

‘The hard ball.’

I was at a function once at a local footy club and these two w***ers were giving it to each other about something while they were setting up the room, good natured banter and all of that. One of them concluded the discourse with ‘well I’ve never seen YOU get the hard ball.’

F**k off idiot.

Was one guy 99% of Bigfooty posters and the other guy Nick Daicos?

pretty sure they (the club) trademarked Geelong Cats as their official name.

Every single player interview-

“Thanks fellas, thanks for having me on”

For once I’d like to hear “Make it quick campaigners, I’m only doing this because the club told me I had to”

Great quote on The Grade Cricketer podcast (I forget which player said it).

“Thanks for your time today”

“No worries, it’s great to contractually obliged to be here”

"first goal in footy" ..... very rarely that might be true, but there wouldn't be too many in the AFL system that haven't kicked goals in juniors or state/suburban leagues before the first AFL goal is lauded their first in footy.

"took it at its highest point" ..... he took the ball at 3.5 to 4 metres high, its highest point was 20+ metres; took it at his maximum height, sure, but not the ball's highest point

2025 saw the birth of the term "transition".

Transition this. In transition that. Nobody knows what it means but it sounds good.
Transition, except in North's midfield, has been around for years. Very handy to be able to swap your structure quickly on turnovers, etc. It might be an over-used word, but (and of course its all only opinion) I don't mind it.
