Thsts not self defence. If as you say the minimum force necessary to stop the attack is to knock the assailant out. Then that's clear cut.

But understand courts take into account the physical size of the assailant (as they should) would you back sandilands laying out a 90 year man for hitting him with an umbrella?

Of course not sandilands size, strength and mobility shows that decking the old guy was well out of the realm of self defence.

Not really my place to say, but I think what he was referring to was a woman attacking him and him defending himself with an equal amount of force (think he worded it poorly).

I don't condone violence against women (or any violence really) but I'm seen some pretty feral women lay in to men in my time and it's always very awkward for the man. And I'd suggest this "ladette" behaviour is becoming more and more common, where girls are physically aggressive towards guys (this nearly always occurs in a situation with a large crowd gathered around). The woman has nothing to lose, and the guy has everything to lose.

This is very different from domestic violence.

In your ideal world, where the onus is on the potential victim to not piss people (stronger than them) off in order to remain "unbashed", they do have to walk on eggshells in order to not piss someone off because inciting anger varies from person to person.

There can be small variances in what can be considered 'obnoxious', but it's mostly defined by social norms. For example, if you go up to someone on the street and spit on them, they will retaliate and most people would have no sympathy for you. If you do wrong by others and expect to get away with it, don't have a cry and act surprised when they decide to fight back. Like I said before, sure you can try and plead to the law if their retaliation is over-the-top, but it still won't get you unbashed. This has nothing to do with 'my ideal world' (lol), the law can't prevent an occurrence that's already happened. You do realise to some of these pigs, that "pissing" them off could be something as simple as talking to another man, wearing a piece of clothing they didn't allow, talking to a friend, just being a bogan drunk, not getting home from work on time... the list goes on.

Blokes are funny beasts - we keep a multitude of shenanigans from the wives and girlfriends, however there is one thing nine of us will stand for.

This is it - if someone is violent against their partner, it's simply not tolerated.

I'd tear shreds off the bloke - I'd also call the cops no problems, no warning, no "clean your act up" - if you beat a woman, you deserve to be in gaol.

I work with a girl who was abused by her husband, she used to come into work with bruises and could barely walk at times, I remember one time she came in obviously in pain, I went to my boss and asked about what we can do and he said nothing unless she reports it to him, she didn't want to, I decided I would beat the shit out of him then. She begged me not to. She ended up leaving him after we started an affair and 5 years later she still shares my bed.

They had two kids together but I made sure they know what a low life scum there father is. He also knows that if he touches the kids or her again that will be curtains for him.

She is a lot tougher now.
