Darren Jolly that is.

In the next month I would give the big fella a week off. Perhaps against Essendon, round 20.

I think we all agree that if he gets injured we are in diabolical trouble. I'm not sure if I could sit through another Josh Fraser/Cameron Wood ( or Guy Richards/Chris Bryan ) led ruck division in a final.

If we are to finish 2nd or 3rd as it appears, surely most of our best players will get "rotated" to keep them fresh.

What do you think??

Both Fraser and Wood seemingly have found a little form in the VFL.

Which side do we play next that has, no ruck?

Carltank?

Jolly has an incredible history of durability so I'm not concerned with him playing through. Plus, he's only recently started to find some real form so I wouldn't want to mess with that by sitting him out for a week.
We really want to finish top 2, can't rest key players and put that in jeopardy.

Against Richmond or the Scum would be ideal.

We obviously need Jolly against the "big 3" (Cats, Hawks, Saints), but either of those 2 mentioned games would be fine, as neither Carlton or the Tigers have experienced rucks.

I rekon rest Dane Swan if we have to rest anyone or maybe Harry O, the rest have had rests.

why on earth would we want to rest him just when he's starting to justify the faith we placed in him during trade week??

Sharrod Wellingham was in the form of his career before he was rested, he may have seriously injured himself during training the week of the match, but if not he was playing some great footy while carrying the injury and look at his form now... In other words you should never flirt with your form!!!!!

If a player is injured, rest them. If they're not, don't.

Suggestions we rest players against Richmond implies they're easybeats and is the sort of mentality that would get us beaten.

Please don't.

I've never seen a win at the MCG live and that's the game I'm coming across for. So let's have the fullest strength side we can please. :p

LOL.
Last year I attended our loss to the filth.....got a 2 week red for my efforts after the game....

I know how you feel and respectfully withdraw my suggestion.:D:thumbsu:

I reckon leave it up to Jolly, if hes still feeling good in 2-3 weeks let the big fella go

All players will say they are right to go. Sometimes clubs need to do the unpopular for the greater good.

All players carry niggles, which can turn into bigger problems.

A weeks rest can often make a huge difference.

He won't need a rest IMO. Not while he is just starting to find some form.

Gee......great tipping aaronmx...8th o/a.

All players need a rest. The winners of the 2 qualifying finals that get a rest in September would all agree that the rest gives their small niggling injuries time to improve/heal.

Whether we rest Jolly or not is a call for the fitness staff.

but no doubt a few players could be freshened up before finals.

Guys like Johnson, Davis, Didak, Presti and Luke Ball all tend to come back from a week off with spring in their step.

I don't think the same goes for guys like Wellingham, Lockyer, Pendlebury or Thomas. They seem to be the sort of players who run into form over a period of weeks.

In terms of the time to rest....a lot will depend on the result thsi week.

If we lose to the Saints, we are 6 points below Geelong and St.Kilda so top 2 is out the window. Even if we beat Geelong, we'll still be 2 points short.

if that's the case, then 3rd spot is basically ours...or 4th at worst. So would be a good time to rest around Round 18. Potentially even rest a few guys for Geelong match because it will be a tough game and no real reward in terms of a move up the ladder. And atleast we know we have a few weapons left in the artillary for them in finals.

I would not go resting between Rounds 20-22. We need to get stability into the side for finals. Only guys with injury niggles miss during those weeks. Rounds 18 and 19 seem the perfect time to freshen up.

However.....

If we beat the Saints, then top spot is a reality, and we should have a crack at it. If we were to suprise Geelong, top spot would be ours.

Top spot is the place to be this year. You'll play either Freo or Doggies first up. That's way better than Geelong or Saints.

Our players would get the rest 2nd week of finals and be right for the prelim.

We should really be aiming for top spot if we win this game. But that will mean no resting.

Theres no resting people from here on in this competition is far to close to rest players, as much as i hate to say it our team with a few rested players could easily lose to a Carlton, Richmond etc, we wanna finish top 2-3 so we need to be playing our best fit 22 every week.

The most recent game at the 'G I've been to was the Hawthorn game of 2008 in which Buddy kicked 8.6 and we managed 8.14

Needless to say, wasn't impressed.
