When do we review?

That's cos of the fluro yellow. Bring back the traditional yellow.
did Adelaide think we were an easy kill in 2017 in the yellow??

they had the power stance and where pre-game favourites.

I cannot speak for the overall atmosphere but we where down for so long the fear of losing did not enter my mind because we where beaten up for so long we did not even have a shoulder to put a chip on did we?

Was it Grant Thomas who said words to effect one of the weakest premiership wins only for our team to win premierships two more times?

Whatever Grant said, I did not care, I was off the canvas and starting to breathe again

The club must not have been affected by Grant putting us down if we won in 2019 and 2020. Grant Thomas did not fear us, and we won in 2019 and 2020

The review is not for restructuring purposes. It’s to keep an eye on the progress of a massive undertaking which is to take a club from the bottom of the ladder to the top again.
I would do a major review every 2-3 years and get an external view that helps the club see a broader perspective than just their own. I would also like the club to start to articulate exactly what they are looking to achieve, when and the types of milestones we should expect to see along the way.
We haven’t seen anything for a long time that is visionary and perhaps that might help understand this next period better rather than the prevailing view which is “she’ll be apples”.

Remember, we went from the top to the bottom in just 3 years. Things change quickly.

Why? There have been so many clubs fall in to this stupid trap, heap pressure on themselves when there is a mistep. the only bloke that got it significantly right was Benny and even that took 7 years, almost lost a coach along the way. Review all you want but to publicly state a bunch of arbitray milestones as targets along the way they do or don't have anything to do with the actual trajectory is really really stupid. We would barely have met any of the things we needed to do by the end of 2016 which is why many were calling (including most of the great unwashed on here) for Dimma and everyone else's head. Luckily, the club knew better and backed themselves in.

Reviews should be for the leaders to check how they are progressig, not for the members of footy forums.

Where did I say that it should be made explicitly public?

I think some transparency is good to keep people informed but if they shared even a framework of how they review the operation along with a perspective of how they seek out best practice across the industry then we know we are getting best of both worlds.

I am not advocating change for changes sake but an openness to tweaking along the way where necessary.

I find it amazing that people cannot grasp the concept of continuous improvement and the role of reviews to help facilitate that approach.

I did get some some good intel on the logic for Yze’s reappointment and how we are planning our list management in the longer term so it makes a little more sense and explains why the need for a review is probably better after next year but the point still holds.

You don’t get better building a plan and mindlessly following it until it’s too late.
We did that with the women’s program and we are now back to square one. Disaster.

The AFLW and men’s teams are quite different. The men’s team is coming off success and had 1000 games of experience leave which where replaced with youth . Honestly, they can’t be compared. As I’ve said, the club will review the situation at the end of each season. That’s all that’s needed for now.

I literally bolded where you said it.

I literally bolded where you said it.
What i mean by that was that I would like made transparent the milestones along the way.
Take the 3-0-75 as one example of what I meant.
In your words that was a “stupid trap” but to me
Benny was courageous and purposeful when he made those goals clear.
He also put the club out there which was brave.
It gave us a sense of the broader vision and the milestones that would help define how we get there.
There doesn’t have to be the warts and all of the football program.
We haven’t given any transparency at all.
If I am being harsh, it’s a “trust me, we’ll be fine “ msg which is what Greg Miller and Terry Wallace did.
I think we are better than that but we wouldn’t know based on what has been communicated

Are you too young to remember the many many 5 year plans that RFC and others came out with? This was literally the only time one of these has ever worked out. The fact that you think the club needs to have KPIs or targets that are said publicly is the laughable thing. They will have their internal indicators but that 10 years, 5 finals series, 3 flags stuff ain't going to be said in public again and it shouldn't either.

There was never a plan of any substance until Benny and Dimma arrived.
There was never a culture of sticking the plan out until Peggy arrived.
What I really liked about 3-0-75 was the way they communicated how they were going to get there.
And not just the flags.
Getting to debt to zero was an enormous effort as was getting to 75,000 members.
Both worked in tandem to create the platform to invest into the infrastructure required to compete on field (reserves team, reconfiguration of punt rd oval and new facilities).
We all talk up the flags but we also played in 8 finals campaigns which was a phenomenal effort.
Vision, plan, relentless execution
AND
clear communication and the balls to hold the line.

Sorry mate but if you think that wasn’t instrumental in our success then you are Brett Deludeioed

Noone seems able or wants to answer the question of why wait until we become a basket case before we review.
Being 2nd last after being last should invite constructive scrutiny. Let’s support the program by proactively reviewing it. As previously mentioned, some intel from the club has explained why coach was reappointed and also explains the need to go after free agency will be delayed until we have finished rebuilding of Punt Rd as this facility is expected to be a major drawcard. So, based on those factors, I have previously conceded a review probably appropriate in 12 months just to make sure everything in order ahead of a major strike at the end of 2027.

Fair enough.
I have been around for a long time. Have seen us get it right and wrong over the past 50 years.
Have been on this site for ages.
I don’t post here often but when I do it’s been thought through.

I currently see a malaise in our clubs thinking since Peggy left.

I would argue my points are valid - not necessarily right in the opinion of others - but valid in so much as having been considered.

In a debate, you don’t have to win in order to progress the thinking. On both sides.

It’s a shame some can be bothered to consider another view.
That’s was actually the point of the OP.

Yelling at clouds is what Graeme Richmomd did.
Look where he ended up.
