Yes and no. Yes that Whitnall is one of your main forward options Carlton can use, but he is often played in the backline at CHB, and so isn't really a forward. If Whitnall was going to be put in the AA side this year, it would have been at CHB or a position similar. I suppose a similar argument could be applied to Croad and Roughead as well.

Kennedy will play CHF this year. Jake Edwards will also be used as a KP forward. Last year Fisher, Waite and Kennedy were injured for much of the season, and never really gained momentum. A poorly performing midfield didn't help. Hopefully they can stay fit and injury free, and provide some valuable support for Fev. With all the attention Fev gets (often 2-3 opponents), the 2nd and 3rd KP forwards have a great opportunity. I really like our structure. Each KP forward has unique attributes. Fev, is a burst leading KP forward, massive kick, and freakish skills. Josh Kennedy, is an over-sized CHF with a massive reach, freakish mark, and serious pack busting potential. Waite is basically an over-sized midfielder (194cm), playing KP forward roles. Fisher is a sensational mark and is versatile and skilled. Jake Edwards is being groomed as a backup KP forward, as our KP forwards have a terrible injury track record. Jake is about 192-193 cm, skilled, and has exceptional speed over 20m. He may become an alternative leading forward option. We also have a few that can play pinch-hitting roles in the forward line if things go wrong. Lance is a natural CHF, and his footy smarts create goals. Setanta is very good in the forward line, and his massive stature and athleticism will always provide problems for opposition defenders. In terms of medium forwards we have Gibbs, Houlihan and Wiggins. Betts and Murphy will be the crumbing forwards. :)

I realize that Whitnall may be a natural CHF, but the fact is thats not where he's been playing his football lately. Whitnall may be a natural forward but until he plays as one, he's not one.

I'm not saying you don't have any forward options, but Whitnall isn't being used as one. As for Kennedy, it may be a bit too soon to be playing him ful time at CHF, a half-season maybe.

You might be right about Kennedy. He'll probably start at CHF, but not sure if he has the durability for a whole season at his age in such a physically demanding role. Josh tends to hit packs very hard, and get himself injured i.e shoulder, fractured ribs, punctured lung etc. He has grown a fair bit over the past year whcih should help him endure the physical stuff. I agree Lance wasn't used at CHF much in 2006, but we have more height in the defensive half nowdays, and this might allow Denis to use Lance in the forward half more often. Lance is obviously not the most athletic individual, at CHF he's so damaging because he just seems to be able to read the play better than most. He also provides great leadership role in the forward 50 and directs traffic, and helps setup plays. Our side badly lacks experience, and his guidance is invaluable. He'll probably be used in 2007 as a tall utility rotating between CHB and CHF, but spending more time in the forward line perhaps, than he did in 2006. I guss a lot depends on who we play, and who we have available to select from on a given day. :)

Talk about chalk and cheese.

Fev is the best. Kennedy will become the best.

Not even close. Hawks forward line is 15th/16th best in the comp. (Hi Kangaroos!)

Maybe at the moment it is, but I can see us having a very forward line in 2 or 3 years. I think that we have a good mix of players there.
Hows Essendon's forward line looking after Lloyd and Lucas retire?

I mean the risk with Kennedy is that he's already had two (I think) shoulder reconstructions, and playing him permanently at CHF in 2007 puts him at risk of becoming the next Kozi, stuffed up by consistent injuries to the point that he's constantly out.

As for Whitnall, true, Whitnall is one of the better reads of the ball in the league and provides experience, but I will call Whitnall a forward when he plays as one. 2006 He didn't play as one. If he does in 2007, then he is one. Until then, he's a CHB. As you said, it all comes down to who's available. If Fevola is out, Whitnall may have to play CHF. If one of your backmen is out, he'll play CHB. I'd like to see Whitnall play at CHF, he was dominating against us early this year until your "coach" moved him to CHB (stupid move) and clearly he's a natural CHF not a natural CHB, but your defenses are often stretched.
