A) Richmond

B) Essendon

Martin (top tier), Cotchin (injury riddled, but has elite potential), Riewoldt (if not already there), Deledio (below AA status but yet to peak) & then falls away to middle tier/aged players in Foley (who was on the cusp of AA befor injury), Newman, Jackson, Tambling & a host of players with potential, but not quite right there (i.e. Connors).

Essendon, along with WC, have the worst midfield in the AFL. Hurley is their gun youngster, Ryder is a huge talent & ditto for Pears. Watson is a good solid footballer who is excellent in clearances but cannot dispose of the ball in an elite/very good state. Apart from that, they have a good young spine going forward, but no midfield options of note.

unfortunately i had to pick richmond :(

Midfields have been too influential to look past

You would have to say Richmond, but Essendon are only a couple of tweaks away from being a contender, whereas Richmond are still at least 6 players shy.

Essendon need to seriously bite the bullet and trade for some midfield grunts.

Too many airy fairy footballers.

Put a Mitchell and a Swallow in to the Essendon midfield and in 12 months they could push for top 4.

Richmond need more than 2 players.

From all reports we will be aggressively trading for young mids this year like Boak and Dangerfield.

We are in desperate need of some guns mids Watson is our only star mid and he isn't the top echelon of players. Winderlich, Stanton, Prismall and Hocking all go alright but they're not the blokes to take us to a flag.

Melksham will be a star but we need more players with his potential, and hopefully Myers, Zaka and Colyer reach their potential.

Very happy with our future ruck and kp stocks, just need to get our midfield right and we will be on our way to no. 17.

Richmond for sure... but that'll happen if you bottom out over a couple of seasons...

Essendon are overachieving for me at the minute... I think they have a pretty bad list all round, apart from some obvious gems... their 2nd tier group has little upside

There is no doubt that Richmond have some great young talent, but apart from Jack Reiwoldt they don't have much outside of a very talented midfield group. McGuane, Moore, Post etc. are all OK but they are hardly world beaters. It's also not going to be too easy to get goiod KPP the next few years courtesy of GC and GWS.

We have a very good group of young KPP in Hurley, Gumby, Pears, Hooker who are already an important part of our side, we also have two very good ruckmen one of whom, Ryder, is still very young. Darcy Daniher, Neagle, Still and Carlisle are all pretty talented and might also come through, all have played very well at stages in the VFL this year.

The midfield is obviously an issue but we have Watson and Winderlich who are both playing pretty good footy at the moment and will be around for quite some time, as will Stanton. Emerging players like Jetta, Reimers, Hocking, Dempsey, Davey and Monfries have all played some excellent games this year and should continue to improve. Of our recent draft picks Zaharakis and Melksham are top shelf talent, and we have a few others such as Myers and Colyer who have also had an impact in senior football this year, albeit in a small number of games as yet. Anyone who hasn't seen Michael Quinn in the VFL this season is in for a bit of a shock, he is actually quite skilful now and Tyson Slattery has been performing consitently in defence at Bendigo

Once we get rid of a bit of dead wood some of you will get a surprise at the depth of talent we have.

Somewhat hypocritical effectively naming Richmond's best-22 players (McGuane, Moore) whilst listing Neagle, Daniher, Still & Carlisle, as well as the likes of Gumbleton & Hooker, who McGuane & Moore have shown as much as, if not more than.

And he still sh!ts all over Swan:thumbsu:

Pfft McGuane, Moore and Thursfield rarely have bags kicked on them unlike Peares who has had his colours lowered a few times. I like him but think his shut down ability is overrated. Hooker is good like him.

However the Dons defence is very heavily reliant on Fletcher. He has 1, max 2 years left and then it will really open up and struggle for a while.

The Tigers are also developing a number of KPD like Post and Gourdis (who I think will be our FB) and will make a difference. Not to mention Astbury is a swing man.

I would think our midfield going forward will start to rape and pillage yours and Jack Riewoldt + Griffiths combination will be quite potent.

Whilst Richmonds best are better than the Bombers, once you get past Martin, Cotchin, Lids and Riewoldt their is a massive drop off. Like someone else said. Add a couple of midfielders and all of a sudden Essendon looks pretty good.

Essendon's KPP stocks are lightyears ahead of Richmonds.

Ryder and Hurley are absolute A grade KPP prospects.

Pears, Hooker and Gumbleton will all be good players, those 3 alone are probably better prospects than anyone on Richmonds list bar Riewoldt.

Deledio, Cotchin and Martin are obviously A grade midfield talents.

Melkshem is a step below this, however, Watson is 25 years old, and is probably the best extractor in the league. Prismall will be an excellent 3rd or 4th midfielder down the track.

It's easier for Essendon to draft in 2 low midfielders than it is for Richmond to build a backline and a few more quality forwards.

You won't come close to raping or pillaging Essendon's midfield if they got in another quality extractor with Watson, the roles would be reversed.

You can't just pin your hopes on Ben Griffiths.

I'd say Richmond, purely because they've bottomed out over the last few years. Martin (gun!), Cotchin, Riewoldt, Foley, Cousins (sorry, I joke) and that funny little bloke Nason are already having a massive influence. Essendon have the Hurley's, Gumbleton's (who I think is going to be a very fine player), Watson's etc. but Richmond pip them because of the amount of youth in the squad. They're still getting better.

Angus Graham, been watching him lately? He is filling in to be a good prospect not only in the Ruck, he can kick goals when he goes forward.

David Astbury, will develop into a good player, just needs more time put in to him.

Luke McGuane, done a great job on Fevola last night before being injured, along with Will Thursfield, they are developing into handy KP defenders.

Why has been in the VFL this year if he is so important?

Thursfield is 25, if he isn't a cornerstone of your team now.. he isn't going to be in the future.

I wonder who will fill fletchers boots when he retires, atleast our players still have time on there side where fletcher is close to collecting his pension and getting a hip replacement.

Essendon have better young KPPs
Richmond have better young mids

I rate young KPPs higher, so I voted for Essendon

Care to name some of the KPP players that you think are better then Richmonds?

Or care to name some of the KPP players that you think arent as good as Essendons?

Umm Hurley goes alright iv heard. But has to prove himself.
Although for the first time in a long time our KPP are as good as theve ever been.

Mcguane
Astbury
Reiwoldt
Griffithis

Looks pretty darn good if those two young boys can come on. :thumbsu:

When Fletch goes, either Dempsey or Hocking takes a bit taller 3rd opponent rather than the 4th or 5ht string like they have been getting. It's not like we've been winning on the back of throttling teams in the backline.

Way I see it, we need to go midfielder after midfielder with every pick from now.

I think it'll be easier for us to replace 3 or 4 smalls than Tiggies' 2 or 3 smalls plus a couple of talls.

Way i see it Tiges need a KPF and a ruck most importently, then a couple of running mids.

Dont forget Post and Gourdis, it is silly how people think we dont have any decent KPP.

Are you serious?

I would take:
Ryder
Hurley
Gumbleton
Pears
Hooker

Over:
Graham
Mcguane
Astbury
Reiwoldt
Griffithis

The Bombers have an unbelievable spine full of very talented young stars of the future. The Tigers have Riewoldt and a couple of no names who could be anything.

Tiger’s fans please try to keep thing in perspective. For mine Reiwoldt being the only player of note I would still take Ryder in a heart beat over him. Patty can play in any key position goal line to goal line.
