North did very well, like last year, and get my vote. For the picks they had they got some great value.

West Coast did very well too, Darling so late being the cherry on top. Doggies deserve a mention for the quality of their F/S's.

And of course I'm very happy with how we went. Watson, McCarthy (everyone debated which of these two we should get with #18) and Mitchell adds great depth to our spine for the future. So I'd like to think we'd get some votes.

I'm going to go with Hawthorn.

WCE + NM should be the popular selections since they both did very well.

But Hawthorn with I.Smith, I think something special could happen there and I think he will prove to be a fantastic finals player. Hallahan is great value. Litherland is great value. And Puopolo they took right from under the WBD nose and prevented them from adding their Jarrad Harbrow replacement. Good all round draft Hawthorn. Got some fantastic value selections.

Wouldn't have done a whole lot different.

Whoops picked my own team by reflex - can mods change it? Think I'll go with Sydney.

Pains me to say it but Carlton. Arguably the two best KPD in the draft and one of the best KPF capped off with a developing HBF and a mature HBF who can slot straight into the team to release Gibbs into the midfield means they've done extremely well. Dogs or Eagles would have featured but WB were discounted because of FS (obviously awesome for them) and WCE because their picks were so high.

North

Followed by West Coast

Carltons could turn out to be very good but I think it was a very risky ploy. Ah well high risk/high return. Could be a team of monsters in a couple of years. Midfield might be slowing down by then though

Carlton and Geelong IMO...

Carlton - I rated both Watson and McCarthy in my top 12 and Mitchell was in my top 25 too - all fit in very well relative to needs too. McInnes I rated top 40 - no-nonsense player that does little wrong. Haven't seen Duigan play before.

Geelong - Haven't seen GHS, but from I've heard he's in a similar mould as the others - all are very solid and versatile 'footballer's footballers types. I think they'll get a very good return relative to position from this.

I also like North Melbourne and Sydney's first 2 (haven't seen enough of the last 2 picked for North and Alex Johnson for Sydney) and Hawthorn picked a nice mix of players.

I think Sydney drafted the best given their picks, but Carlton will probably benefit the most from who they got.

West Coast did well, but had great picks, so that's to be expected.

Kanga's got the quality slider in Atley. Would've been interesting to see if my mob (Carlton) would once again ignore needs and have taken the midfield slider. - We had next pick so it very nearly could've happened.

Like Brisbane's selections too. Especially with getting Green where they did.

Kevin Sheahan gave GC the gold (Duh!), Carlton the silver (for getting the players they wanted) and the Dogs the bronze (their F/S picks which were no brainers).

Cats, Hawks, Roos & Eagles.

Geelong always recruit well.

Still surprised that they didn't go for another young defender/forward or Lycett given the age of Mooney, Podsiadly, Scarlett, Milburn and Ottens.

Wells knows what he's doing like Tarquin noted.

North - given their picks. Atley and Harper will add greatly to their midfield. Can't say I've heard of Richardson but getting the equivalent of 3 players in the first 35 and offloading Hale sounds like a good wicket.

i voted for collyflog - i think ugle will be the surprise packet for this draft - go as far as to say the dean kemp of the draft - reckon the eagles had a go at hiding him - would have voted for north or eagles otherwise - darling is a win for us - unbelievable win - but given the picks north got they have done well

I gave Sydney my nod of approval but have easily placed Geelong, North, Carlton in the same bracket...

I voted for westcoast even thou i dont like them. The reason i voted for westcoast was because they got Gaff who i think is the second best player in the draft after Swallow to get Darling where they got him was a masterstoke them disapointed brisbane didn't pike him at 25. And Scott Lycett will be a handy replacement for Dean Cox.

Not sure why Port isn't getting any love. Jacobs, Newton and Young are all excellent picks, and O'Shea could prove to be a bit of a steal at 52 considering his height and speed.

Although I still think it was too early for Smith, Hawthorn had a good draft and I'm really looking forward to seeing Puopolo. I'm not the biggest fan of the Carlton draft, but McCarthy was a huge bargain. The Saints did well with their kids, as did Fremantle. And I'm not going to bother with the GC, obviously they dominated.

Port
Hawthorn
Saints
Fremantle
North

North & West Coast did very well, but time will tell.

Compared to last year im actually quiet happy with how the Hawks went, we have picked some ready made players who can make an impact next year. I very keen to see how it all plays out, hopefully we can top it off with a couple of good rookies and Cameron Bruce in the PSD.

A little surprised you haven't included Geelong in that list seeing we drafted both Smedts and Guthrie that you both had high in your own phantom. With the addition of Horlin-Smith (who could be anything) and Schroder I reckon it's a pretty good draft.

Your thoughts?

Please explain.

I didn't rate Watson anywhere near that highly, and I'm not sure quite how much more he will develop. Hopefully he wont peak too soon. But having said that, swap him and McCarthy and I probably wouldn't have any issues with it.

Mitchell, I don't think will have any middle ground. He will either be a star or a dud. I'm hoping it's the first, but shoulders are notorious for developing into recurring injuries.

I also would have thought the last thing Carlton needed was medium defenders/half backs. Personally, I'd have gone for some outside speed and a smaller defender.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, because their first three picks could all develop into some serious talents. And if it pays off, the Carlton spine is set for the next decade. McCarthy is the only one I have real faith in though.

Interesting though that Watson is the youngest of all Carlton's draftees and his body still needs some work to get into the right shape for AFL. I think he has potential for a little more development than many give him credit.

I also would have thought the last thing Carlton needed was medium defenders/half backs.

I think they're trying to get players in to release Gibbs and Walker from HBF duties and potentially even Russell for stints in the middle. Desperate for some rebound from half back to be delivered with skills like Gibbs.

Among our delistees this year were Johnson, Anderson, Browne and O'Keefe; all HBF's who I guess the club hoped might do this, but having now gone, the net is cast out again.
