Maybe switch Hardwick or Sicily back there down the track.

Really hope that won't be necessary. We have a number of players capable of playing forward (Sicily, Harwick, Impey, etc) but all of them are at least 25% better players in the backline. If we are playing them forward, it means we've not found anyone better and are robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Where is Geelong in 2 years?

You had all those picks for Kelly then swapped them for a 28 year old. And recruited 2 guys in their 30s.

Geelong has been two years away from a slump for a decade but this one looks a little bit worse than the others.

I can’t help but feel Cameron was a bad bet but just one premiership is all it takes to turn that around.

I think Geelong has been on the cusp of a fall. Not sure slump.

I think Cameron could be good, but getting 2 players in their 30s really does look like a final roll of the dice.

Geelong are where we were at the end of 2016, the only difference is they have a realistic chance of winning another flag...just about everyone except Clarko could see how cooked out list was despite finishing top 4...

Jeremy Cameron will be an incredible pick up for the cats, especially with how well Hawkins is playing. Isaac smith in a good side is still one of the best wingmen in the afl and Shaun higgins is a A grade midfielder..higgins will also allow danger to play more forward...good luck stopping a forward line of Hawkins, Cameron and Dangerfield.

They do have to win it in the next two years though...they will be leapfrogged by the quality youngster sides like the lions, dogs & saints in the coming years.

You have just shown more optimism for the Cats than you EVER have for the Hawks... Funny that

Hawthorn were a game clear late in 2016, and ran out of gas when the whips got cracking after 4 straight GF’s.

But of course, in Bradkli world Hawthorn are no good, even when they are.

Can we go back to discussing which team list we want the least?? There's plenty of threads to read about the Richmond/West Coast rivalry.

I want to read North Melbourne supporters melting because no one thinks they've got any future stars on their list.
Yeah north Melbourne younger players don't look too promising at the moment.

Pity they didn't choose Vince Russo as head coach LoL

I hate the Cats list. You look for players 23 or younger who are established in their team you get:

Elite/elite potential: nil

Above average: Parfitt

Average: Simpson, Henry

Below average: Nil

Absolute scared spuds: Cryin Miers

That is what they have established in their team right now 23 years of age or younger. 24 and 25yo’s you add just Mark O'Connor, who would be about average at best and Kolodjashnij who would also be about average at best. Nobody else under 27 established in the team right now.

Eleven of their likely best 22 will be 30+ by the end of the season. Another three will join them next season and another two the season after that. 11 of their current best 22 have played at other clubs. They can never have a "break out" player because they don’t select the young ones long enough to allow it to happen.

There is literally nothing to look forward to with this team. They are somehow trying to reduce the game of football to something more like a game of chess. The trouble is, the best opposition is always going to have too many young players with upside who will just run the Cats off their legs.

Deplorable failed experiment of a list that has this year doubled down on the very part that keeps failing on the biggest stage, by recruiting more old timers.

Geelong don’t need to focus heavily on youth because they will forever be a destination club to free agents who want the laidback surf coast lifestyle.

The 30+ year olds will just be replaced with 27 year olds. Rinse and repeat.

They could realistically be challenging for the flag forever now.

You would like a list that works that way?

He appears to me to be some sort of experiment to see how far a dead set squib with zero defensive acumen can get in footy by just running up and down the wing in about row 12.

OK then. He is an important part of the forward set up for a top 4 team but yeah awful player couldn't get a game in the ammos.

I disagree, North do have a lot of good kids. But they’re all mids and half forwards, they don’t appear to have many/any good young KPP players, and need to draft a new defence.

They almost have a complete midfield unit and a third tall in Zurharr.

Jaidyn Stephenson
Curtis Taylor
Luke Davies-Uniacke
Jye Simpkin
Tarryn Thomas
Will Phillips
Tom Powell
Eddie Ford
Cam Zurharr

Some ok players there. It doesnt inpsire me with confidence. North are probably struggling now. But you never know in 4-5 years. North could make a prelim final or grand final with this core if Daivd Noble is the right coach to guide them.

I do rate Tom Powell as I do watch the SANFL and saw him play at sturt. Drafted as an inside mid but is a very good set shot on goal.

In terms of young midfield talent, they’re ahead of where Brisbane were at in 2016, but behind in the KPP stakes.

The old BF chestnut, where being young is more important than being any good.

You're forgetting that we had a very average coach for 10 years (there were 4 other coaching jobs available this year and he wasn't considered for any of them), who didn't get the best out of the talent that we had / have on the list, especially in recent years. Which is precisely why he was given that arse, he didn't believe in the list. Shaw comes in, and immediately gets better results with the same list, which is now improved with Bonar (first rounder) and 3 second round draftees.

We're fairly bullish about the prospects over the coming years.
You had 10 years of stability under Mr Scott. Sure he didn't get you a flag, but he got north a couple of preliminary finals. If he was a bad coach, he wouldn't of lasted 10 years. Shaw wasn't a very good coach. He looked inexperienced. David Noble is a very good up grade from your last coach.

If Optus Stadium suddenly had 8 co-tenants it would also mean the travel load would be lesser. I'd take that fixture.

I've always been of the view that Richmond deserved their flag and that the natural advantage of having a lesser travel burden is balanced out by having less 'true' home games. It is what it is and it won't change in the short to medium term.

West Coast weren't good enough in 2019 (the Collingwood and Hawthorn games at home in the end probably cost us) and it is a bit embarrassing that a handful of supporters on here cannot acknowledge that.

That being said - I'd prefer an MCG tenant style fixture rather than an Optus Stadium tenant fixture - the travel really does have an effect on performance, this is well documented and studies and I hope no Richmond supporter is ignoring that either.
haha I knew it. You want a 3rd team in WA to get 4 automatic wins at the start of the season.

People constantly bring up Richmonds 2019 flag as they had 7 games at the MCG to end their regular season.

Collingwood won the 2010 flag in a similar deal. They had 7 games in a row in 2010 as well.
