Going to go with North Melbourne now. They are so far ahead of the other two it isn't even a question anymore.

Hard to say they are "so far ahead" after two games, after all they were playing against a Melbourne side that completely gave up. If North can continue this form well over the season and into the next, then I'll concede they are very far ahead but right now every team is 'up and down' as it were.

For what it's worth as well, Richmond actually had a higher percentage than North last year and would have finished above them if they kicked straight, you can look through most of the games last year and you'll notice despite Richmond having a huge injury list they actually scored much more than North did.

Even though I think Richmond will finish higher I will still take North.

My predicted ladder finish for the bottom 3.

16. Richmond
17. North
18. West Coast

Still think I personally would take North atm just by virtue of the fact that all their best players are young (or at least young enough).

Richmond have been massively carried by their old brigade this season - Nankervis, Hopper, Taranto, Vlaustin, McIntosh and Short. So there will still be some caution about what the team looks like when these guys retire or miss through injury.

West Coast are just all over the place - so many senior guys either injured or inconsistent form, with not quite the same calibre of young guns coming through as yet.

On paper it would be north but they are such a badly run club.

Based on the expected draft picks we are going to get over the next few years I’d rather our list.
Well here's the question. Look at the Shai Bolton trade.

Richmond got picks 10, 11 and 18. Dockers got Shai Bolton, pick 14 and a future 3rd.

Pick 14 became Murphy Reid.

Were you happy on which kids Richmond got with those picks?

Tigers draft hand and mix of senior players with kids puts them in front.

Still unsure on Nth and eagles are a basketcase
North's senior and younger players are all better, as they should be because many of their young talents are now their senior players due to how long it's taken.

North clearly has the best list of the 3. They really just needed that second KPF and look like they found one in Trembath.

The question is as valid today as it was when I made this thread a year ago, and even though I think North is slightly ahead the gap is not that great.
Nah, I recon North is ahead by a bit. Richmond is still relying on their older stars and they have to replace them first which will be painful.

West Coast has the worst list as they can’t develop players anymore. Need to fix that to improve.

When was the last time a team with that percentage or lower played finals the following year?

The answer is never

North this year 5 1/2 wins and a percentage of 75.7

West Coast in 2010 finished bottom of the ladder with 4 wins and a percentage of 77.1.
The next year in 2011 at the end of the h&a they had 17 wins and a percentage of 130.3 to finish 4th. They made it to a pf where they lost to eventual premiers Geelong by 48 points.

Hawthorn in 2023 finished 3rd last with 7 wins and a percentage of 80.2
The next year in 2024 at the end of the h&a they had 14 wins and a percentage of 118.5 to finish 7th. Won and lost a final.

GWS in 2022 finished 3rd last with 6 wins and a percentage of 84.6
The next year in 2023 at the end of the h&a they 13 wins and a percentage of 107.1 to finish 7th. The won 2 finals and lost the pf to eventual premiers Collingwood by a point.

Footscray in 1996 finished 2nd last with 5 1/2 wins and a percentage of 77.3
The next year in 1997 at the end of the h&a they had 14 wins and a percentage of 101.8 to finish 3rd. They lost a pf under dubious circumstances to the eventual premiers, Adelaide.

Melbourne in 1997 finished stone motherless last with 4 wins and a percentage of 60.8
The next year in 1998 at the end of the h&a they had 14 wins and a percentage of 102.7 to finish 4th. They won 2 finals and lost the pf.

Brisbane in 1998 they collected the wooden spoon with 5 1/2 wins and a percentage of 75.8
The next year in 1998 at the end of the h&a they had 16 wins and a percentage of 144.9 to finish 3rd. They won 2 finals and lost a pf to the eventual premiers North.

That'll be enough, I want to watch the Brisbane v Hawks game.

Thanks for playing.

Ok my mistake that it hasn’t happened in almost 30 years. Still don’t think they’ll do it

Currently best North worst Eagles. Biggest problem with Eagles are almost all of their senior players are garbage. Duggan, Cole, Owies, Flynn, Graham, Cripps, Ryan all are crap now in 2025 and Waterman and Yeo the only good seniors are always injured. Maybe Baker classifies as good too

Very happy with those picks. Hotton looks a gem, Faull aggressive, mobile key forward are not that easy to find and Trainor looks a natural footballer/backman.

Reid has been spectacular, I don't think anyone could have foreseen him having a first season like he has, but Bolton was always worth the package because he gives Freo that big game ability and experience that has help put them into a good position in the 8.

Shai Boltons first season at the dockers has been solid.

North - if I can send the whole club to a sports psychologist. Something is wrong up top there.

The polite phrase would be that they've got to learn to win.
