For me, it would be Craig Bolton. He is one of the best at shutting down forwards bigger than him and also providing a lot of run out of the backline.

craig bolton

he doesn't get much praise outside the footy club, but he would of conceded less than 15 goals this season, whilst taking on the biggest forwards :)

Can't believe Scott Thornton is on this list. Surely you could have found someone better for Freo. Maybe Grover, Dodd or hell even Luke Pratt a rookie listed player who hasn't even debuted yet.

Watching Thornton play generally makes me feel sad.

Lol sorry i haven't seen Pratt and Dodd play as much as Thornton. Grover i just forgot about. :o

DM38 is one of my favourite doggies players.

Gets the job done pretty much every week. Only been beaten 2 or 3 times in his career. also he was a rookie list player

Bock, Gibson, C.Bolton and Morris are hardly 'under-the-radar'.

Well when you think of Adelaide it's Rutten, Johncock and Stevens who have been the 3 long-term defenders for them.

The Kangaroos have Firrito, Watt and Sinclair. Gibson is starting to make a big impact on the competition, just like Bock is.

Craig Bolton is probably the biggest name in that list, but guys like Leo Barry and Tadhg Kennelly are the two i would look to shut down first because of their superior ability to run the ball out of defence.

The Bulldogs have a few key talls now like Everitt, Williams and Lake and Morris is the one who can either play on a Brendan Fevola type or even a Alan Didak because of his groundwork.

How the heck is bock an under the radar defender...grover should definately be on the fremantle list over thornton and i think praise should go to kelvin moore....was absolutely shite when he first began...just thought he was another hack but over the last couple of years he has just improved out of sight...thoughts?

r u serious leigh fisher hasnt even play for about 4 weekss u could choose Sam Gilbert or James Gwilt for stkilda

Leigh Fisher is a better player than Gilbert or Gwilt. Well in my opinion he's better. His brother is not an under-the-radar player. He's one of the premier defenders in the AFL, but Leigh does get under the guard of a lot of teams.

It's not his brother.....

Bock is the best on the list
but isn't under the radar
neither is Craig Bolton
both played in the Allstar game
Bolton has been AA
Bock is AA this year ;)
A lot is said about Bolton in the media and a lot has been said about Bock this year so hardly under the radar

i'd go with Morris as the best rarely recognised backman

As for Beau Waters being our "under the radar" defender, i'd say if you had made it Brett Jones he'd win it. Hes an "under the radar" type.. i think dunno what you all think.. but i didnt think he was rated like Glass and Hunter. Barely lets the best mid sized forwards kick a goal on him eg ROK and he dominated Burton.

Otherwise Bolton wins it.

Brett Jones flies so far under the radar he didn't even get a mention in the poll. :D

He's a gun though.

From the list I think Morris is an excellent defender.
i agree on bones

and yes bock and bolton arent underrated

def. morris
absolute gun defender and would very much welcome him to collingwood if we had the chance

Patfull- wears everyone like a glove. Watching their game against Adelaide I didn't even see him on Burton and all of a sudden a fist comes flying out of nowhere. Add to that a great vertical leap and he's a lot better than waht the Victorian media makes of him.

West Australians are generally the only ones who get to see Jones on a weekly basis and hence are the only ones who rate him (Roger hayden was the same for a long time).

Anyway all credibility for this poll has been lost now because someone decided to pull the piss and vote for Scott Thornton.

Bock's defensive abilities sort of flew under the radar before this year, although if you'd asked practically any crows supporter at the beginning of the year how good bock was, you'd get a 5 letter answer: AA CHB.

In terms of real under the radar at the crows, Mick Doughty has been doing a great job in the role he's taken over from Torney off the HBF.

For mine its Craig Bolton and Dale Morris as the best on the list but not sure how 'under-the-radar' they are now.
