Us Buddhist monks are like that.
May you not suffer the cruel fate of reincarnation as a huntsman. However, even though Buddah is generally a kind and benevolent God, he does have a nasty side and he may well make this happen.
And just to spice things up, he may have you placed in one of your childrens houses where, upon sight of you, they will no doubt sceam like a bitch and squash you back into oblivion.

Well it is a shame that i am jewish. We eat most animals, and everyone goes to heaven. Win :)

Just witnessed something really creepy.

I was in bed watching TV when something moved out of the corner of my eye. I looked across and saw a cricket running across my floor. I was about to get out of bed and squash it when it stopped dead still. Then I noticed something else moving in my room. Looking up I saw a spider about an inch long slowly descending from my roof. This spider got all the way to the floor and started to attack this cricket, probably looking for his dinner.

I was contemplating letting him live out of respect for what I'd just seen. But then I squashed the little ****er, knowing I can sleep soundly tonight.

Love watching stuff like that too.

I had a cricket in my toom the other day as well. Never had one before.

OK so apologies for bumping this horrible thread but there's this in my backyard, growing bigger it seems...

I'm guessing it's a funnel web spider burrow? What the heck do I do?

Just keep away from this

end and you will be fine princess.
Either that, or you could scream like a biatch.;):D

Is definitely a funnel web burrow, so be careful.

fill it with cement :)

Stick a hose down there and drown it.

Then stand back and if it comes out, whack it with a hammer.

Make sure that it is a very long handled hammer or you may have an arachnid hanging off your hand.
Not a good look.
Better still, just get the pest control people in.

thats not the kinda thing i want to see this soon before my bed time ahah geeze

The worst thing is when you see a spider somewhere on your bed clothes, try to kill it, but then it runs away under the bed somewhere and then you can't find it.

Brother just had a Red Back crawling on his pyjama pants.

"There's a Red Back on me, get it off me!" Was too afraid too move and was panicking so I told him to relax, it's not that dangerous, knowing no one has died from a bite since the introduction of the anti venom.

I got up and started hitting at it with the tissue box but it didn't kill it, so he flicked it off. Landed a couple metres away and was crawling but it's legs were pretty mangled. I put a weight on it (ones with the holes in the middle) as it looked pretty cool (having never seen one before - thankfully, we very rarely get spiders other than those very small ones and the occasional black house spider).

Poor thing is dead now and as cool as it looked, ain't particularly keen on seeing another (at least, one that isn't behind glass). Surprised and pleased I didn't end up in a panic. :thumbsu:

Amazingly have not encountered any Huntsmans or White tails this summer, as opposed to 2008 where in one night I had 3 WT's close together. Usually they are out in force after the kind of weather we have had.

But we do seem to have more Daddy long legs than usual.

The warmer weather brings out lots of spiders. White tails can be aggressive fast breeding spiders and I would recommend killing them. With exception of the redback and funnelweb/mouse spider and white tail, few spiders will do damage. Its also unusual for most spiders (exception funelweb/whitetail) to be aggressive. They would rather run away than bite. Think about it from a spiders point of view. They want to survive so if you find yourself suddenly on an animal that is 1000 * larger than you, why bite and draw attention to the fact that you are there and be killed? - run away and live for another day. Quite often if they are being crushed or have no option and are backed into a corner they will draw on their last line of deference and bite. Also not all people react (minority in fact) to the white tail bite and the venom of the white tail varies depending on what it has consumed. White tails eat other spiders hence the varying venom.

My son once had a pet house spider which lived happily in a see through container for 4 years. It learned to identify meal times. The life expectancy is quoted as 2 years from various sources.

And_Roos, it looks like a common trapdoor spider lair. They live underground and rarely come to the surface. They rarely if ever come out and wait for beetles and other insects to fall into their hole. You would probably find the spider about 30 cms underground. We have a few in our front yard.
