So, should we expect player departures to Essendon too now

Yeah, then the sky will fall and Armageddon will follow quickly afterwards.

Harvey was never realistically going to stay on as an assistant coach after Voss was sacked. Essendon is the perfect job opportunity for him. It should be high paying with no expectations or pressure on him because Hird will take back the mantle on 12 months.

I wish Mark all the best at Essendon or whatever he decides to do with his life.

The knock on Tudor is that he is not the type to rally a group behind him and lead them into war. Fantastic footy smarts and knowledge of the game but does not have that steel needed for senior coaching. This is second hand information though so can't say if it's 100% accurate for sure.[/

Wasn't the leader type when he played either. My concern with him is that he was a less than ferocious outside the play type of player. Traditionally not many of these become inspirational, or for that matter successful coaches. ( queue/cue the list to prove otherwise) Personal view is that if we go down the path of one of the assistants, I would like Simpson.

Our club simply has NFI what is going on and the fact Neil Craig is even in contention goes to show what a joke we are; its just amateur hour up there at the moment and people actually expect us to retain any of these kids.

Who can honestly blame them with the shit that is going on up there.

What a seriously ridiculous statement. How do you know that Craig is such a bad coach ??? His results on the surface seem to be quite good. Who cares about his Melbourne record. Even Barassi, Roos cannot/could not make that work without massive AFL intervention. Did Craig destroy the Adelaide Football Club ?

If Lyon gets Freo in the Grand Final this year & they lose, will he be considered a failure of a coach in years to come, assuming that he never wins a flag. Two runner ups at St Kilda. It is just hard to win a flag.

The hysteria against Craig on our forum is just bewildering. I don't get it. Craig was not my choice, but if he gets the job, let's give him a go.

Is the issue with Voss the fact that we appointed a favourite son, or, the fact that we appointed a favourite son without an apprenticeship?

The downside with the favourite son thing is that pretty much every coaching role is terminal and it means there will be some heartbreak at the end of it. But at least with Leppa we would have followed a full traditional process.
Yeah I personally want somebody to be appointed with no strings attached to the club however I think Leppa has been away from the club long enough now to come in and not have much of an emotional attachment to the playing list. I am also glad that he has been an asistant coach for several years now at two separate clubs and he has been at Richmond as they have developed into a finals side. I think he will make a good senior coach.

It would be nice for a red headed former Lions player to replace another red headed former Lions player I guess.

His performance at Melbourne for the whole of 2012 and 2013 was nothing but diabolical and considering his involvement as Mark Neeld's mentor throughout the past two seasons, then I'm absolutely staggered why anyone automatically discounts his tenure as not being relevant. Did any of their players develop in that time or make significant strides in their careers? No, but yet you want to bring him to the Lions.

And if he gets the job; I for one will never give the bloke a chance or get behind him. We weren't good enough for him back in 2011 at the end of his reign at the Crows and now that he is out on his arse after he was just as responsible as Neeld at one of the worst performing teams in the AFL's history, all of a sudden we are now good enough for him. Stuff that, if he is appointed, it will set the club back even further and remind me again why we got rid of Voss.

I'm hoping that if we do get Craig it is basically as a replacement for Harvey. I can't see him teaching leppa too much, rather providing some sort of guidance for him to assist in the transition to senior coach.

This is spot on. Agree 100%. Would be a much worse move than the Fev deal IMO.

Not sure what Craig would teach Leppa, but I just hope that he can teach the players a lot if he gets a 2 year term. Leppa will have his own ideas anyways you'd think, if/when he takes over.

if harves gets the dons job as it appears he will ,then congrats to him ! has been a great servant and friend to the lions , wish you had given our job a run.

all the best and thanks for your efforts with our club

So, lemme get this straight.

We wanted Roos. He didn't want us and went to the basket case that is Melbourne.

Melbourne didn't want Craig so we shortlist him.

Our senior assistant coach didn't want to apply for the gig because he didn't want a senior coaching gig. He now is taking a senior coaching gig at the Bombers, who have been torn apart this year.

That about where we're at?

The Essendon caretaker senior coaching gig is kinda the senior coaching gig you have when you don't want a senior coaching gig.

Not much pressure and he gets to be the white knight to the club he loves.

This summarises the coaching element of our issues, yes.

You could add "we sacked Voss 3 weeks out from the end of the season because we (Angus) thought we (he) could get Roos"

So to follow on from that theme, how about we appoint Roos now, as the coach-in-waiting to succeed Craig in 2 years time when his Melbourne tenure is up...Seems to tie up the loose ends perfectly.

From the above.

The succession model of former Crows and Demons mentor Neil Craig handing over to Lions great Justin Leppitsch remains the favourite but is not over the line.

Adam Simpson has gone cold on Brisbane, Leigh Tudor is at long odds and Simon Goodwin has been all but blackballed.

Think we might have to start mentally preparing for no Tudor.

Those online tests are pretty effective.

Yeah I did a few of them when I got a grad position with Queensland Govt a few years back. Good when you have to cull 1000 candidates down to 50 or so. They are pretty fricken exhaustive and hard to fool because the questions are delivered in a way where there is no "right" answer.
