Just a question, did the general hatred for all things Port die just a little when they got handed that 119 point disaster a few years back? Must be nice to be a Crows supporter and knowing whatever they say they will always have that disgrace hanging around.

Their answer:

"At least we made a Grand Final."

I shit you not.

Granger was a loose cannon who could actually play the game.

Bloody Clifford was a back handed sniper of the elite class & the prick always had a smile on his face as he ran past his latest victim.

I live to the rear of Dave Granger's house (My back fence connects with his.) He is an absolute nutjob. Plays his Johnny Cash incredibly loud, sings along with it, argues with neighbours, has problems with the police (mainly pot related I believe.)

My hate for Port stems from my parents. Lifelong West Adelaide fans, and I've grown up with stories from my dad about how the Magpies acted during the 70's and 80's to make sure they could win. Hitting guys behind the play, some real roughnuts, etc etc. Being only 17, I've only really seen how the modern day Port act (less offensive with less success) and Power have acted, and the Power players come across as incredibly arrogant. Such as the thumping of North Melbourne, with Tredrea doing to bow and THE CHAD being the w***er he basically is. They seem to be proud of a long run of choking as well.

wow I can't beleive this thread was inspired by myself from the bay.

Well anyway, I hate the crows because us Port fans are used to 100% of the attention and we don't like to share it.

For giving themselves airs and graces believing they actually matter in the AFL.

Don’t hate them; I see no reason to hate a club with 12 years of history. So i don’t have the Port Power, their supporters on the other hand.

I used to detest the Port Magpies but now they simply a shell of their former self. The Port Magpies are like that old man who lived down the street from you as a kid who used to terrorise the young kids but now he is an old man and you know he is a useless old git. Port Magpies are the same, now time has passed and they are just a bunch of useless gits who live on pass memories. Just feel sorry for them.

However, their supporters who cannot fathom the different between the two clubs and believe the Port Adelaide Football Club who won all the premierships in the 80’s and 90’s are now playing in the AFL – they are the numbskulls who irritate me.

I watched Port Adelaide Magpies play football pre Power days and post Power days, i cannot say the same about the Port Power.

Being over 50 I have vivid memories of Port's great sides of the 60's, 70's and 80's. But there were other sides that were also great during that era. Sturt, Glenelg, Norwood and North all had their eras of dominance. But I never felt the same way about those clubs as I did about Port.

With Port, you respected their ability to always be competitive, and even marvel at some of their stars. Russell Ebert, Bruce Light, Brian Cunningham, Tim Evans etc. were all genuinely great players.

What you didn't like though, was their arrogance. Their attitude seemed to be that they were bigger than the competition and everyone else was just there so they'd have someone to play.

Their duplicitous and traitorous actions in 1990 merely reaffirmed my opinions and cemented my hatred for them.

For those of us that remember the course of events that led to the birth of the Crows (something I'm not sorry for, but would have preferred it had occurred under our own terms rather than those of the AFL), it will always be a source of rancour. But I guess if you're under the age of 30, it would be difficult for you to appreciate the depth of feeling some of us "oldies" have against Port.

This ^^!

As an original Crows season-ticket holder, going to Footy Park and having to put up with "fans" in black and white beanies bagging the Crows and cheering for the opposition...
Agree! Those "fans" have a lot to answer for. Fair enough you can support any other team you want to but when you simply go and support every other team that played the Crows it smells....and now they want me to help the Power. My memory is long and I will never put my hand in my pocket to support those ferals...It is also disappointing that those relatively few have spoiled the relationship between the supporters. I have many close friends who are terrific people but those ferals who used to sit on the boundary (and in fact still do!!) did it.

McCavity sums things up pretty well for anyone who remembers the SANFL pre-1991 and experienced the comp when the main focus of the media and public was with SANFL football.

Most people old enough the know the pre-1991 era won't be feeling much sympathy for what the Port teams are going through now.

Port supporters seem to LOVE footy when things are going well for them and get a sick pleasure from watching the crows lose.

At the start of the year all port 'supporters' loved their footy and now they couldnt give two shits about it bcoz they are rubbish now and we are improving.

They are bandwagon supporters pure and simple

Yes indeed. You didnt begrudge any other club their period of success (except the Bays, because their lack of finals success was just funny :D), but you hated it every time the Magpies won. Port's extreme arrogance, coupled with their scragging playstyle and habit of belting the opposition's better players, just made them hateable.

My two fondest childhood memories are Sturt belting Port in 76 when Port were unbackable favourites, and Norwood getting up from 5th to beat Port in the GF a few years later. There's nothing funnier than a sulking Port supporter.

They tried to muscle themselves into the AFL on the basis that they were bigger than the SANFL, they owned the support of half the football following community in SA, and their history was more meaningful than any other club in SA (indeed Australia). You can see that attitude permeate through today on issues like the Adelaide Oval debate.

A shadow of the club they once were. Their ambition and arrogance has only eroded and devalued the tradition they hold in such high esteem. They're throwbacks to a long gone era and now just a financial drain on the SANFL. My hate for them has been replaced by a pity one normally bestows on the weak and downtrodden.

May their ambitions and expectations continue to exceed their results! :thumbsu:
