Why no pressure on Ken Hinkley?

Friendly reminder that Carlton were also 6-2 last year and still missed the finals.

Ken still hasn't fixed our forward functionality so against the better teams we're probably still going to be found out.

And we also still have to play Collingwood, Geelong and Adelaide twice.

Is the whole weird sack Ken cult with Port Adelaide led by fans who still think this is the sanfl and should be winning the flag every year?

Is it also to do with the fact he isn’t one of”them”? Wasn’t brought up a port guy, isn’t from SA etc.
I don't think it helps but isn't the principle reason. It is his loser mentality, the fact that he is at war with some of the supporter base.

He plays favourites, he ignores assistant coaches and consistently loses when the stakes are at there highest then has media to sing his praises and cover his deficiencies. He will not tolerate anyone questioning his mantra. Look at how the media have howled down Tredrea.

Everything about that game today should have been a 6 - 10 goal win. But for some reason he wants to play the worst ruck in the league instead of Finlayson who was BOG as a ruck last season v Essendon. It wasn't until Teakle was out of the ruck that we started to function and get anything out of clearance. The guy has no tactical awareness or nous. He coaches like its the Colac senior colts.

And then NO ACCOUNTABILITY.

There’s no denying the job Ken’s doing.
Out of contract and under the spotlight, Ken responds like all A graders do, where it counts most … on the scoreboard and into the top 4 now !! [emoji123]
Getting into the top 4 occasionally hasn't been Ken's problem.

Winning prelims has been.

Over 10 years he has failed to create a plan that consistently converts inside 50s into goals.

Over 10 years it has (mostly) worked against non contenders (albeit frustrating to watch) and failed against the best (just look at his record v top 4 and top 8 teams).

Over the last 10 years it has failed in prelims.

As a result he has the record of the longest stint without making an AFL grand final of any AFL coach without being sacked.

And with the same problems still evident this is never likely to change.

I thought Josh Carr was in charge of selection and tactics at Port now?

The only positive about today was 4pts.
10 more scoring shots. In a normal game that's your standard 40 point win. Hinkley will get them doing goal kicking drills and they will correct it next week.

Finlayson into the ruck was genius, as was instructing JHF to hunt the ball second half. Game plan of long and direct to Big Dixon created many opportunites. A good game at the office by Ken.

After 2011, Scott's Cats failed at the prelim hurdle 4 times before making the GF in 2020 and 2 years later saluting. Following this timeline for Port: a failed prelim this year, GF in a couple of years and a premiership in 2027 a year before signing the next 5 year contract.

Not only that, Essendon were kicking way above average. A Lot of shots were going in over 40m and that just doesn't happen. Port could easily have won by 10 goals had they kicked better and Essendon hadn't gone above average.

Finlayson was BOG against Essendon in the ruck last season. The "genius Hinkley" didn't try him until midway through the second quarter.

Shows humility to not remember one of your best moves right away. He's definitely gotten the best out of Finlayson though, I agree. Likewise Allir. Same is already evident with JHF. Rozee and Butters are developing really nicely under him. Definitely has buy in from the players: welcomed to the bench etc.

The reality is it's hard to win a premiership. Think people expect a new coach to come in and magically win the premiership. You've got Melbourne, Brisbane, Collingwood, Geelong who are all insanely good teams.

Hinkley's move to head cheerleader and media show pony has been a resounding success. Now they just need to lock him out of planning meetings.

There's one pretty important difference there though isn't there.
