THE BIG SOUND WEST OF THE TOWN!
I've been watching the board go into a bit of a frenzy the last few weeks about the boys & our year so far

Why so worried?

We have a few key injuries to some very key players
We had our pre season start later than normal

Its only Round 8

The Silver ware we won in September aint going any where & im not fussed on going back to back (yet...this is subject to change)

Im kinda just enjoying the season as it unfolds...maybe its just me in my old age (not the crazy 18 year old i was) or maybe ive got the premiership hangover as well

Right now, I agree.

We have lost two matches against teams that look like certainties to be in the top 4, if not the top 2. Nothing to be overjoyed about, but not reason to panic. If we can get three wins in the next four weeks we continue to put ourselves in a position to finish in the top 4 ourselves, and if we do that it is game on in September.

However, if we don't win at least two of the next four matches we will start to drift towards the bottom of the 8. I have no doubt we will play finals this year, but you need to be in the top 4 to really have a shot at the premiership. Important weeks ahead.

Last season we didn't have to deal with the injury issues with which we are currently faced. That can be the difference between top 4 or top 8. Hopefully we can get some results while we bring players back in and get back closer to full strength.

In all fairness we're not the only side with injuries, theres other clubs that have it worse of than us. We're in horrible form at the moment which i'm confident we'll overcome with returning players.

Every team has players missing due to injury:

Geelong:
Hamish McIntosh
Daniel Menzel
Jared Rivers
Travis Varcoe
Nathan Vardy
Josh Hunt

Hawthorn:
Cyril Rioli
Matthew Suckling
Ryan Schoenmakers
Brendan Whitecross
Xavier Ellis
Brent Guerra

Teams lose because their squads are not good enough. Those 2 teams have competent list management which allows them to replace key injured players much better than we can.

We just won a flag FFS currently sitting in the top 8 beaten only by the two flag favourites! Is there anything at all that you actually like about our club at all? All I ever read from you is player X is shit, our coaches are shit, recruiters are shit, gameplan is shit, selection is shit the club is stupid **** me you're like a broken record.

You make lots of good points, but your constant claims that our list management is shithouse is somewhat belied by our results over the past few years.

I also think there has to be some sort of credit in the bank for winning a flag, logic and history suggests back to back flags are highly unlikely. A 15 win season may be realistic and acceptable.

My negativity comes from the fact i think we have the list to be a contender, or at least better on the weekend, but i am not worried yet.

I also get the list management point others raised, i feel like we have stockpiled midfielders, when key defenders have probably been a problem for over a decade, even Ted and Reg were probably more forwards inititally. I am wondering how picking Towers for instance will play out given his age etc

At this point Membrey will play before Towers

Heh heh ... I think he was saying the same throughout last season too ... well, until the finals started. But he wasn't alone, we had a lot of posters on our own board last year writing us off ... would be interesting to look back over some threads write up to the loss to Geelong ...

I haven't lost the dream for back to back. I just want to get back to contested possession juggernaut best with great outside run from the likes of jetta and hannebry. At our best we can beat anyone in the league, we just need to get back to it.

C'mon the mighty swannies!!!

I'm not worried per se about how the boys are travelling, they have a proven record over a period of time, not to mention the silverware. But while we are standing still, be it because of injuries, late pre-season or "hangover", the reality is other teams have come along in leaps and bounds.

Hawthorn have real motivation, Geelong are full of class, Essendon are (allegedly) doped up, Freo will be looking to build on last year, Eagles are getting key players back.

I'll back the players, coaches, and the system to get us up and going for September though.

How many did we lose early on in 2006? Did we make finals that year? How many did Essendon win early on last year? How did they go for a tilt at the flag?

I'm not worried at all re: making finals and having a good crack at the flag yet again. It's a long season and anything can happen. I have no doubt the club is focussed on getting us into peak form come finals and not doing any more than we have to to get there through the season.

What I was most annoyed with against the Hawks was how woeful we actually played though. If we play like that for the next couple of weeks (and possibly drop a couple of easier ones) then I reckon I'll start to get a bit worried our form is not just temporary thsi year (although history says I shouldn't be worried). ATM though, as others have said, we've lost to 2 great worthy teams and our main flag rivals. Bring on the next month or so and lets start to build our year.

C'Mon you bloods!

You only have a small window for success , if u drop your standards we will find ourselves in the bottom half of the ladder in no time. Great organisations demand continual success , that's what I want our club to have.

No one's perfect, we're gonna lose games here and there, and play poorly. I think the culture of the club, on and off the field, is pretty healthy.

Funnily enough I agree with both these posts.

I'm really not fussed at all this season. Maybe because Hull City are doing so well, maybe because we won the Premiership last year, I dunno, but I'm not that fussed when we lose. I was pretty fired up at the Cats game, but that's because some bitch was a few rows away from us showing off the feral aspects of Geelong, or maybe it was just the atmosphere, but in general I'm just enjoying this year for what it is.

The constant negativity from certain posters does grind quite a bit.
