Too true. Baffling decision.

lost becuase as for the last four seasons, the pies lack depth... youth was not enough and last night proved the pies again need to rely on ageing A grade players who have their best years behind them with a couple of exceptions in Fraser and Clement

You played a heap of no names, wouldn't be overly concerned with the result.

Pendlebury looks the goods, very poised.

kangarooter: We're clearly having a laugh, why would you even bother? And you don't add depth by not playing kids, what better opportunity than in a game that is completely meaningless?

Was about to write a similar thing...

In all honesty, does anyone know why Clarke wasn't picked? Regardless of result, I would have thought the goal would be to get him as much game time as possible - especially in the preseason. Would expect him to play most of the praccy matches from here on though.

My thoughts on the game:

- Very happy with Pendles. Might not be ready to be a starting centreman, but certainly will form part of the midfield rotation (likely out of a wing).
- Was happy with Nichols. Very good left foot, tough, and quick - reminds me of a left footed Tony Francis. Got caught a few times, but with work on first options he could become the tough rover we need.
- Happy with glimpses of D ick, Toovs, and Brown. Not at all concerned with Brown's first couple of possies, you would be surprised to see how many players have terrible first possessions - a symptom of just thinking that they have to do too much with their touches. Will settle down.
- The Shaws were very good, although Rhyce just needs to settle down.
- Wakelin was great, Maxy was very good.
- Johno lead very strongly.

Negatives:
- I have never been disillusioned more with Richards than right now. Will be axed at the end of the year. Bryan will support Fraser this year.
- Ben Davies isn't and won't become a senior footballer.
- Unconvinced on Iles.

Does ANYONE know why Clarke wasn't picked?????

Yep understand that mate... I know but I was hoping to see some of your young lads have a red hot go... Kangas were pretty much full strength in comparison and I don't care who the kids play for I love to see a gem uncovered early on no matter what.

cheers,

We wanted to let the Kangaroos have a chance.

why wouldnt you play probably our best rookie for a long time
Just pre season and the only chance to get as many of the young ones out on the paddock. Yes we all want to win every game but we really need to look at who can step up this year and fit in. Allways nervouse about playing rookies in too many pre season games. Lets save it for round 1 / any chance of him playing round 1?

Yes I reckon we did.
Sav has had the better career certainly but after 1993 he pretty much coasted to mediocrity and worse. His kangaroos career revived him but he never really reached any great heights. I can't remember the last time he won a match off his own boot rather than being fed the ball. 1995?

Anthony may be frustrating but his best is match winning. He was massive for us in 2002/2003 regular seasons while never putting together a consistant season without his prescence we wouldn't of made the finals let alone the grand finals. If we had Sav rather than Anthony at the time, we wouldn't of gone very far at all.

Sorry to go into a long spiel, but also it was never a choice between the 2. To add to this Sav really needed a big boot up the ass. It took him a delisting to get into shape and really focus. He couldn't of done what he did at the kangaroos at the same club.

I thought you would've been happy then. There were a couple of future gems unearthed and they played for your mob but you're wasting your time in here mate. Anything that isn't blowing sunshine up Collingwoods arse is considered trolling. Fact is I doubt you'll beat them by 10 goals in round one, but I do think you'll beat them. Pace and midfield depth is going to be Collingwoods archilles heel in the near future, something from what I saw the other night isn't going to be an issue for the Kangas. And bringing back 4 35 year old Nathan Buckley's isn't going to remedy that.

Its been our achilles heel for a number of years already but that didnt stop us smashing North twice last year. We've addressed that problem, and it will start to turn around this year with Thomas and Pendlebury joining Swan Didak Johnson and the two Shaws in the midfield, adding skill and speed we've lacked in the past.

Last years gone bud. Anyway, was just adding my two bob.

Yeah, and I'm giving you a courteous rebuttal. Our midfield has been slow for years but we've worked around it. This year we'll start to see the results from addressing that lack of pace. We'll have a good mix of experienced heavy bodies, and quicker skilled players. We still need a Judd, but who doesnt.

Must admit that your blokes are always fustrating through the middle.... we love to bag them for being slow but they also have the capacity at their best to overcome that and move the ball incredibly well. Personally I think you have missed a couple of real hard nuts in the middle... Brodie Holland a few sizes up. Dunno about Harry, the first game he played he wouldn't take a step back... anyone know if he's mongrel enough to be a Barry or Johnathon Brown??

ps... this is not a suck job... just love to hate you guys

Your midfield always looks slow when you don't have a ruckman who can get hitouts. You'd be amazed how much faster they'd look if you put Dean Cox in there.
