Will collingwood grab a ex player in draft?

Those who could be ok options for recycling:

O'Hailpin is interesting as a backup KPF since he can play now.

Mitch Farmer is solid if looking for a small defender.

Broc McCauley is a solid option as a no.2 ruckman.

Ben Ross is a very good ball user. Has nice pace. (outside mid - been a little unlucky with injury but put together a very good vfl season)

Jarryd Cachia as an inside mid is a very solid option.

That said I don't expect us to go down the recycle route. The only real fits for us who could be looked at are O'Hailpin, Farmer and McCauley. But with the salary cap situation and the fact these are more depth quality players considering the health of our list most likely we stick to drafting.

Do not want at all. A massive turning circle, poor skills and just a stupid footballer in general. Tries hard but that's it.

The other two i wouldn't mind, especially Setanta.

Even as depth I wouldn't want Setanta. He's a sketchy set shot, and just isn't that good of a footballer. Would rather debut Witts at FF if we needed depth next year.

I heard from a source within the club that, at the very least, we had preliminary talks with one, Andrew Lovett. If Leon had decided to retire, then I would maybe entertain the idea, but with the recruitment of Marty Clarke, and the fact that Leon is most likely staying on, I don't see this coming to fruition. But if it were to occur, I'd have to say I wouldn't mind it happening :)

I rate the guy, call me stupid but he brings aggression to the table, is able to take turns in the ruck and he's actually not a bad kick for goal (considering), we could do a lot worse, gives 100% every time and i've seen him trouble more than one KB.

at carlton setanta was usually 1st or 2nd in the pecking order up forward (when he played) considering their lack of KPF. at collingwood he would be 3rd or even 4th in line during a game, drawing a low ranked defender and like leigh brown, given a variety of roles to fulfill, including brute.

if our fitness people could get hold of him and develop him, he might just have a role for 2 years.

Yeah, I'd have a look at Setanta. Could fill a role until Witts develops. Him or Keeffe for the 'Leigh Brown role' until Witts is ready...

Ewww.

If we are going for mature agers would much prefer the Fev.

setanta would be a steal.
Seriously. Imagine what he would be like at a GOOD football club.

We have some of the best coaches and sports science guys in the business. He'd be a great rookie. If we don't get Fev of course ;).

Could definitely see him being a leigh brown.

I would also give Nason a chance. Has shown a bit in the VFL so I think he just needs a club that he can mature at.

Setanta isn't a total spud. He kicked 4 goals on Reid (before he came good) last year & 4 on against St. Kilda recently.

Yeh it makes you wonder why a crap team without any decent talls have finally dropped the guy off the list....

maybe they are doing it as some form of reverse psychology....they want him so they are dumping him..

As for replacing Brown, maybe we should try to find a delisted former top five draft pick who has played a ton of consistent games, rather than an inconsistent irishman who never learnt to play...

Was pretty neutral (possibly against) about us picking up Setanta, but I think he would be a good addition for at least a year. Could easily take over the Leigh Brown role, which is his aggression, and let's face it, it was Leigh Brown's pretty much only asset.

I wouldn't be against it but not sure what Cloke would think of it.

Sentana is an ordinary forward and a poor ruck. He is worse at everything than Leigh Brown and Leigh Brown himself should have been replaced by Wood this year. I see no benefit in Sentanta. If we did need to call on that depth I'd rather play Keeffe and/or blood Whitts and/or use Cloke or Dawes in the ruck and play a mid sized forward - all better options than a bloke who has got to 28 with less quality games than Josh Fraser who we exited in order to win a flag.

A good mid sized forward is a much better option than a bad tall forward. If we lose Maccaffer & take Setanta I will be pretty peeved. We have better tall forward options than Carlton and they delisted him!

Could we turn around Sellar?
A defender? Spare KPF?
I think DTM was pretty keen on him around the time of the 06 draft

Agreed , Dean Galea come on down!!, he probably has 2 decent years left, very capable of kicking 40+ as a 3rd FWD IMO, very strong mark for his size and a very good kick for goal, could be an inspired pick.

Setenta is a ******** and assaulted cloke's brother. NO THANKS.

Gets exellent delivery from the carlton midfield and is still a spud, plus his old

I'd be happy if we picked up Callum Wilson from the Eagles, would be good depth for KPF, even if a little undersized....

With Witts said to be playing KPF all of next year, and jolly likely to be spending a lot more time forward plus Keefe who has been playing forward i dont think our KPF depth issues are bad enough to warrent us going after one with a late pick in a bad draft it'll just be a waste of time. Better getting the F/S guy next year(cant remember his name), or use one of our decent picks (15-16) to snag a real quality KPF if the F/S guy isnt great.

A great preseason and witts could be a suprise packet up forward and chip in with a few goals, needless to say he'll provide a great contest like dawes, the only down side is his leading will be a lot worse so we'll have to bomb it more and aim for fasolo/mooney/elliot/kraks the small blokes to feed off it.

I feel KPF stocks are fine atm, and as Hine said just target best available with our two picks in this draft, they'll most likely just be VFL players

He's a spud & that is exactly what I thought of Leigh Brown at the end of 2008. As for Troy Talyor, Hine was very keen on him, there was quite a bit of information on Hine trying to recruit him in that 2009 book about Collingwood.

Taylor is an interesting one but will need to turn things around before he gets another look.

In 09 I was on the draft Troy Taylor bandwagon, if not the leader of it on the Collingwood board. With his talent certainly worth watching. But probably more a Collingwood VFL option and then if he performs might be a rookie option another year down the track if he can impress on the track, put up some solid performances and show that he is adjusting to the culture which are his challenges.

O'hailpin would be a good pick up....great mark overhead (better than dawes) straight kick and runs all day with good aggression and ground work....can't understand why carlton didn't work hard to keep him. He would slot in a leigh brown type utility role nicely..

Setanta would be a serviceable role player for us.Our window is now and we can't wait for Wood,Ceglar,Witts to play out of the box next year.We need to nurture Witts give him about 5-8 games.Wood should play 10-12 games and Jolly should be groomed for the finals(a la Brad Ottens) and play 15 games max.Setanta while no world beater would fill a role like Leigh Brown, not as good but better than playing 2 pure ruckman. He can play the 3rd tall forward or 3rd tall back as well as helping Jolly out in the ruck.Setanta would only suit Collingwood where he would just be a gap filler with no expectation other than giving a contest.I think he could be ok for 2 seasons while Witts develops, Jolly nears the end and hopefully Wood matures.Worth a punt late in the draft.

Lovett would be even better but i'm sure he will get picked up by GWS or Gold Coast.Fevola is not worth it

At 28 years old and with injury concerns (hammy torn off the bone Matty Lloyd style) he ain't worth it and he feels no need. Nathan Brown will be back, we have Reid, Tarrant and even Keeffe too. No need.

Troy Taylor would be interesting and humourous if we actually took him in the draft. Would make Richmond's blood boil for sure and apparently we did all the ground work to get him to nominate 2 years ago and were very keen. Would be a swifty if Hine took the punt.

I've been saying this over the last few years on this board and with the Tigers You don't want Troy Taylor on your or our AFL list!

I took a beating from alot of BF posters on this topic and i'll keep it simple. He is bad news and until he has proven that he has changed his ways I wouldnt even contemplate. Risk V Reward here and TBH I can never see the reward within this player that we can't get from someone else with their head screwed on right!

I'll leave it at that!
