Will Dawes Make It?

Is contested marking as important nowadays, the way the games played teams are lucky to reach double figures in this area. Do we just need him to improve his basic overhead marking?

Good Question, Contested Marking is less and less Important in todays game

General over head marking is still important, and the best forwards are still at very least ok in a contested situation.

Dawes at his best is ok overhead and poor in an aerial contest.

AKA 'Dog Fight'

Lft. Dawes: "Stop crowding my 50 you chaps"

Enemy 1: "Haha, ve hef heem surrounded. Finish heem off von Bock"

Lft: Dawes: "Blast! I can't shake the blighter off my tail. Tally-ho Jack, could you see to it to lead to the flank?"

Cmr Anthony: "Rodger, Dodger, I'm orf. I say Tarks old boy... pass it to ME"

...but it's too late... the enemy just manages to clip Dawes' wing at the vital moment.

Lft Dawes: "Aaaaarghhhh! I'M HIT! I'M HIT! MAYDAY! MAYDAY"...

I am still yet to work out how the determine what is and isn't a contested mark, I remember a Hawthorn game where Franklin and Roughead both played well with a majority of Franklin's marks being on the lead and Roughhead taking more marks under pressure and yet the "contested marking" stats where completely in favour of Franklin.

That's a bit off track and in answer to his question it is simply his basic overhead marking he needs to improve but it needs to be improved by a fair way. I think opti is being extremely kind in saying his overhead marking is o.k I'd have it at very poor to be honest. He needs to get to a point where he A) goes for the ball overhead as much as possible attacks the ball hard and takes it hard making it hard for defenders. At the moment he almost never does this. B) He needs to be able to hold these marks under some kind of pressure on a regular basis.

Its seems to have changed interpretation where a player marks on the lead with an opponent is considered contested where as a full pack mark ala rocca is considered uncontested if no one touches them. Very confusing

I was being generous, at dawes' very best he can take overhead marks occasionally, still double grabbing but he takes them. The thing is he has to be at his peak powers to be even ok currently

I've cheekily voted for the "only if Jack and
It speaks volumes that he was the only "tall" we were prepared to part with during the trade period. Everyone else was considered off-limits.

Never heard that Dawes was asked for or offered, or that we were prepared to trade him (outside of the usual BigFooty bs)?
