Will Dawes Make It?

I was "nice" here and took the final option, as he is still relatively young for a key position player.

I have been one of his biggest critics, only because I have seen what he can do when he actually "hits form", the problem seems to be consistency rather then ability.

He has showed very little at AFL level, but his devotees will tell you he hasn't been given enough opportunity which may be right.

The reason I have been so critical on him is that I believe we need a 3rd key forward if we are to be a serious threat in September, especially with Jack and Trav's "flaws".

I hope he doesn't get traded even if he has a poor year, I would like to see him given every opportunity, he has the size, isn't slow and can kick accurately at times, he just needs to mark cleaner.

Personally, not willing to make a call.

He doesn't get a good string of games in a row. I thought he done some good things when he played last year though.

Wait and see.

Too early to tell.

As far as I can see, he has all the physical attributes to make a brilliant power-forward. But in the few times i've seen him play it looks as though he relies too much on the ball being delivered to him. In order to make the next step, he needs to improve his ball winning, positioning, and forward defensive attributes (frontal pressure);)

Hard to answer . I've seen his best and it is at a higher level than his contemporaries , but he just seems to lose focus or not mentally be there quite a bit.

The first final v Adelaide in '08 was a perfect point in question. Stepped up, attacked the contest and marked strongly when we needed him to in a big game.

Fast-foward to '09 and there were some shockers in the VFL matches.

He needs to start taking the angry man pills that Jake King seems to favour. Our scholarly forward needs some lessons in some whappin'-and-a-whompin with that big frame he has.

considering we have only seen him play a hand full of games i think you have answered your own question..
He was drafted with a ACL.. has done get to this point in 2010. Hopefully he can burst to the side this year.

I would prefer Dawes at full forward kicking 2-3 goals a game then Anthony. I rate Anthony but just size wise I just think that he would really be able to impose himself on a game a lot more.

He is a Big Boy

Read it and sounds like Mick was trying to tell Dawsey he has to use his Body more
which is what myself, smiddaz, shawthing and didaka (and some others) have been saying for a long time Dave.

He plays like a pounce, needs to drink his MANANA flavoured energy drink (that comes in a ROCKET CAN) and play like the beast he is

Not looking good when he didn't get a game in a nab cup game. He needs to tear it up in the vfl and knock the door down to get selected. Then when he gets his chance he needs to take it with both hands.

Sounds simple but that's wat he needs to do.

I'm a believer in Dawesome. A great deal of my admiration for him came when watching him play in an unsuitable defensive role in a practice match at VISY Park against Port Adelaide. As he stood the mark on one occasion, he started yelling blue murder at the player taking his kick. He had excellent rage. You can't teach that. :p

His main issue, as far as I can see, is that he still doesn't take marks in the "dukes". He attempts to mark on the lead on his chest, just like Travis Cloke did early in his career, and sure enough he gets spoiled far too often.

If he can get past that, he'll score well enough and often enough that as a prospect he'll be given enough time and opportunity to iron out his other issues. The fact that he plays particularly well as a back-up ruckman inside 50 suggests to me he's capable of using his body to good effect.

I'm really hoping this will be Dawesome's year. :thumbsu:

Maybe we can use a Waterboy type tactic for Dawes haha.

Look, you're not playing this game right.

No NAB cup game = GAWN
Not getting 25 positions against St Kilda = GAWN
Not getting picked in this weeks squad = GAWN

Now get with it, ok?

Ah right sorry Dawson.

Clearly a bit slow on the whole writing players and teams off after a single nab cup game

When Buckley takes over.
he is going to become a physical man beast just like that?

i know bucks is part god but sheesh

There is clearly a common theme here.
If he swallows a teaspoon of cement and hardens the you know what up, and uses the dukes to mark the ball then he will probably make it with his physical attributes. I was leaning towards he won't make it, but after thinking about it, he's been on the list for 4 years but really only in the system for 3 after recovering from his knee reco in his first year. So realistically he has this year to show something and next year to break through you would assume....

Part heavenly body actually.
His movements have been controlling the oceans for many years Opti, I can't see why he can't turn Dawesy into a man-beast?

NASA recently use Bucks to divert a large asteroid you know?

He is a confident, aggressive minded player, gets right in when there is any sort of altercation and backs up his team mates like all big blokes should,
until the ball is heading his way, he shuts his eyes and prays the ball ends in his hands

Afraid of getting hit or perhaps busting the knee again?

On that how exactly did he bust his knee?

If you watch this Video you see him getting stuck into Luenberger in the U-18 Championships of 2006

I think it was in a Marking Contest but I might be wrong.

Good Point about him being possibly still worried about his knee
